I come from a family of nerds. We all went outside tonight to see if we could see the International Space Station pass over. It had been kind of cloudy, but we decided to give it a shot anyway. Wouldn't you know that there was a big break in the clouds over us right at the time the ISS was scheduled to pass over?

We saw it, and something else too. There were two "things" orbitting the earth (ISS included) that we saw. Both were equally bright and moving at the same speed and in the same direction. What was the second object in the sky with the ISS?

I took a video as they were passing over us. You may or may not be able to see anything, sorry! And again I'm warning you, I come from a family of nerds. Enjoy listening to the bunch of us get all excited about it and start spouting off different theories of what the second object may be.

A couple of weeks ago when Atlantis was up, I got to see the shuttle and then the ISS. It was awesome. I thought I missed it, but there it was. I'm always the one who never sees the meterorite showers, shooting stars, and I actually saw this--a first for me. I saw the shuttle before it went out of the atmosphere when I was living in Florida in 1981-1982 and I thought that was awesome. Then I saw the first shuttle launch again after being grounded for so long on our HDTV and I cried.

Stormchaser,
Let me just say...you've done it again! It's great listening to you and your family and while I may be a nerd myself...I don't think your a nerd or your family for that matter! Now you might just be a weather geek...sorry, I could help myself.

Thanks for all the nice responses everyone!

Turns out the "second object" may very well have been Space Shuttle Endeavour. (sp?) I heard on the news tonight that it landed in Florida, and I think they "un-dock" from ISS a couple of days before they're scheduled to land, don't they?

Hey Dr. Jim, this will really back up your "weather geek" statement. (Which I 100% agree with by the way... hahaha!)

I'm jealous... Have yet to see the ISS. When I was living in good ol' Bakersfield, CA (early 90's), I remember the shuttle re-entering the atmosphere to land at the desert landing field, and the 'sonic boom' made my windows rattle. I can only imagine what it would have been like if it had lower altitude. Probably would've shattered my windows
