Rocky as most of you news junkies know, is the 700 pound grizzly bear who killed one of his trainers. you got to feel for Rocky's owner Stephen Miller. His cousin was killed by Rocky while wrestling with him for a promotional video. Sounds like it could be up to Miller to decide Rocky's fate. From what I've read Miller, who trains exotic animals for a living, was in compliance with all state and federal laws. That means it could end up being a situaton where no law enforcement group would have any legal reason or right to euthanize Rocky.  The poor guy lost his cousin, who reportedly loved Rocky, and Rocky sounds like he was quite a "cash cow" for Miller. I think this tradgic accident just goes to show no matter how well trained they are, you can't take the "wild" out of wild animals. I personally think Rocky shouldn't get a death sentence for acting like Mother nature intended. so what do some of you bloggers think?

Well I am a skydiver, and just say something happened to me while jumping. They wouldn't do anything to the pilot, yet he flew me to altitude, allowed the door to be open, and slowed down while I jumped out. Same with Rocky. If you're going to wrestle a BEAR, then just know that the bear can kill you. LET ROCKY LIVE!!!!

I agree!!! It truly bothers me that they want to place the blame on Rocky when honestly the people that took him out of the wild should be blamed!! I don't think it was ever Gods intention to have man wrestle a bear especially a 700lb grizzly!! LET ROCKY LIVE!!!

If you surround yourself with wild animals then it should be expected. The bear was doing what was only natural..just like we do, can't blame the bear for the death, blame the handler and trainers..let them go free where they belong.

I'd say he shouldn't get a death sentence, but he shouldn't be working with people anymore.

Interesting that you'd bring this up, Randy, with a picture of you under a bear statute on your page. :-)

Do they know yet exactly what set Rocky off?

If it was out of the blue, then, no death sentence, but retire him. If the trainer was messing with him, or they were rough housing and it got out of control..then no.

Either way, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an actor or stuntman who will be willing to work with an animal who has killed someone one.

I don't think it was an accident on the bear's part. From what I've heard, he had been licking the trainer's face just prior to the attack. The bear attacked him in the deadliest spot; just as he would attack another bear with the intent to kill. If the bear wasn't intent to kill, he would have just bit his face off.

hmmm...I know that sounds odd, but I can't resist LOL!

No...the bear should be spared.

Goldilocks had the sense to run from a bear behind and the moral to that nursery rhyme was the privacy of others should be respected.
It's time to respect wild life and leave them to their wild surrounds.
Zoo's, Circuses and all the money making schemes using exotic animals are cruel and inhumane and should be banned.
The bear was using it's animal instinct as was the white tiger that attached Roy in Las Vegas and many of the unpublished accidentals of wild animals in captivity.

I agree with you FYInfo, the bear was being a bear! It was doing what it is supposed to do. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not into animals, but I do know the difference between wild animals and pets. A bear is not a pet so I don't think it should be destroyed because it acted the way nature designed it to act...like a bear!
