i've read a lot of scathing remarks about the way our meteorologists handled Edouard and i just gotta say my piece.  mike and kristi did an excellent job tuesday morning and i especially appreciated mike explaining the radar.  i also remember him saying that it would be a bad storm, but not a catastrophic storm. and indeed it was bad for some.  much like the Bible, people's interpretations of what they see and hear vary greatly.  and its not like Ed totally escaped the cone of uncertainty.  it only turned about a ferry ride across galveston bay.  had it taken a slight turn more westerly, crossing more warm water, strengthening, then blowing us away, i bet there would still be scathing remarks made about conspiracies regarding the meteorologists for underwarning us.  i learned a long time ago, when dealing with the public (especially the sick public), even at your best - as you were - you will never please all of the people all of the time.  you reported what you saw as it happened, and in my opinion, a job WELL DONE!  keep up the good work, guys (and kristi too)!

i know the cone changes when a storm is way out in the gulf or the caribbean.  but has a storm ever escaped the cone of uncertainty when it was just a couple of hundrend miles from the coast taking an unexpected turn?  or are you guys too good for that to happen? LOL

bruce and i just got back from a walk.  sunny skies with a brisk breeze out of the SE.  i don't think it even sprinkled here today.  i could stand for brownsville to get a hurricane every week!  (kidding, of course).

bruce and i brought out the telescope tonight and aimed it toward the southeast.  to the right and above the full moon (a 1 o'clock position in reference to the moon) you can see jupiter with the naked eye.  through the telescope we could see three of it's four moons and a reddish band of gas just north of its equator.  soooo cool!  the vastness of our solar system is hard to imagine.  our milky way galaxy and the billions of other galaxies is fascinating and somewhat unfathomable to me.  anyone else into star gazing?
