so whats proper etiquette for funeral processions?  if you're in one (not the grand marshal) do you put on headlights or flashers?  if you come upon one, is it ok to pass the dearly departed or should you stay behind?

Headlights. I was surprised when I first attended a funeral here in Texas. We were driving down FM 2920 to the burial site and people on the opposite side of traffic pulled over, some getting out of their cars in respect. I had never seen that before, having lived up north. I was taught you never pass one. I believe it is customary now for police to escort the procession and they do a great job at keeping everyone together past the traffic lights.

Headlights, try not to pass on the roadway. A tear comes to my eyes when I see drivers pull over. More tears as I think of the police officer saluting as my grandfather's hearst passed by.

I was always taught to never pass a funeral procession. Also taught to pull over and show some respect. Generally I say a prayer for the deceased and the family.

Myself, I would never pass one. If I am walking and I see one I take off my cap and wait for it to pass. I just think it's the right thing to do. I don't think passing one while doing a wheelie on a motorcycle would be accepted though. If you do see a cop on a bike leading one PLEASE give him some room. Too many cops are getting run over by people that just don't get it.
