bruce and i brought out the telescope tonight and aimed it toward the southeast.  to the right and above the full moon (a 1 o'clock position in reference to the moon) you can see jupiter with the naked eye.  through the telescope we could see three of it's four moons and a reddish band of gas just north of its equator.  soooo cool!  the vastness of our solar system is hard to imagine.  our milky way galaxy and the billions of other galaxies is fascinating and somewhat unfathomable to me.  anyone else into star gazing?

I love space-stuff. Probably why I love science fiction so much.

I have a star out there Jeff had named after me (the little romantic) but I've never been able to find it. I don't know if you can, but this is its address:

Monoceros
RA7h52min48.08 D-1(degree sign) 46'42.81"

It is a constellation that sits between canis major and canis minor and near orion.

I don't have a telescope. Wish I did, but I wouldn't be able to do much star watching from my yard. It's getting too well developed around here.

aaawww how romantic! my telescope has the capability of connecting to the computer and you just punch in what you wanna see. all we've ever done is just look up what's in the night sky for a paricular night then point and focus. mom, i'll let ya know if i find it!

RadarDude: Go to

I got my friends who got married a binary star, stars that revolve around each other. At least I think it was binary stars, but definitely at least one revolves around the other. It was over 18 years ago so memory is a little fuzzy there. I thought it wasn't a practical gift, but very symbolic.

You are correct PBMom...A Binary Star are two stars...one or both of which rotate around the other.

randy I so wish I could hook up my scope to my laptop...Im used to the old fashioned way...point and look...LOL Astronomy mag also helps...they have great tips and star charts.

Randy,

Before going to sleep at night, I'll sometimes sit out on the porch and enjoy the beautiful night sky. It helps to slow down and enjoy the beauty above and a nice breeze.

I also see satellites moving slowly across the sky.
