last night i watched a documentary that was sad and disturbing. Jodi Huisentruit  was a television news anchor for KIMT based in Mason City, Iowa.   it is believed that she was abducted while on her way to work in the early morning hours of June 27, 1995.  she was 27 years old at the time and had her whole life and career ahead of her. the case is still unsolved.  someone had been watching her closely and knew her apartment number, the car she drove, and the time she left for work (3:00 a.m.)  there was an obvious struggle outside her car and her belongings were scattered in the parking lot.

you guys have a demanding job and i hold you in high esteem.  you truly are celebrities but without the body guards.  i realize you may not choose to disclose it, but i was wondering if any of you have ever felt threatened?

Yes, Randy.

On two occasions, I had stalkers waiting outside work, wanting to follow me home. I did not drive home. I drove around until I lost them. It can be scary.

Be careful out there! There are a lot of kooks running around. I hope you guys have a secure parking lot at work. B-safe

like chassan says, it happens. when we were at our old building on westheimer it was much scarier because security was a fraction of what it is now. but one guy met me as i walked out the door and told me so many things about me that he knew from the idle chit-chat i made during newscasts. that was freaky. and about every year or two he tries to get in touch with me. and coming in to work in the early hours makes you take extra precautions. i watch carefully and have my thumb on the panic button on my car door lock... from the time i walk out the door to the time i'm safely in my car.

Local media is not like the media I've seen in different cities I've lived in. For instance, in Albuquerque, anchors snipe at each other and are just plain hostile, while anchors in Los Angeles are extremely shallow and superficial. Anchors in San Diego aren't just shallow, but extremely egotistic (one night, my sister and a friend had to pry apart a news anchor and me-we were disputing a parking spot).

I've heard anchors here discuss their kids, the schools they go to, and the freeways they drive on, and when. If you pay attention, the local anchors will tell you everything about their lives.

I'm not an anchor but I have had my moments of weirdness too. Stalkers generally don't go after men but ALL of us on tv have had those moments in public where someone just sits and stares at us across the room and never says anything, just stares.......speak up. If you know me from tv say so and move on. Don't just sit there and stare at people who are on t v. That's rude and weird!
