so whats proper etiquette for funeral processions?  if you're in one (not the grand marshal) do you put on headlights or flashers?  if you come upon one, is it ok to pass the dearly departed or should you stay behind?

bruce and i just got back from a walk.  sunny skies with a brisk breeze out of the SE.  i don't think it even sprinkled here today.  i could stand for brownsville to get a hurricane every week!  (kidding, of course).

sugar has a sneaky way of showing up in lots of foods you'd least suspect.  reading labels now requires a degree in chemistry.  never will you find "sugar" on a label.  dextrose, high fructose corn syrup, glucose, mono and di glycerides..... even with exercise and thinking i'm eating well, my triglycerides were more like cowglycerides.  it's embarrassing when the doctor asks, "my God, what are you eating?"  yeah, its genetic as well.  both my parents are on diets and meds to control tryglyceride levels.  high levels can lead to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, poor circulation, renal failure, and a whole host of other complications.  so educate yourself as sugars aren't so simple anymore.

bruce and i brought out the telescope tonight and aimed it toward the southeast.  to the right and above the full moon (a 1 o'clock position in reference to the moon) you can see jupiter with the naked eye.  through the telescope we could see three of it's four moons and a reddish band of gas just north of its equator.  soooo cool!  the vastness of our solar system is hard to imagine.  our milky way galaxy and the billions of other galaxies is fascinating and somewhat unfathomable to me.  anyone else into star gazing?

anyone remember "sweet lorraine"?  geez, am i telling on my age or what!  when i googled the english band, formed in 1969, i found out that they are still touring in europe!  i can still remember seeing the album cover and hearing the music coming from my sisters bedroom.  i have a remarkable memory since, of course, i was in utero. LOL!  so who is gonna admit they're old enough to remember when Uriah Heep - the "Beach Boys of heavy metal" - had a few hits that made it to America?

The state parole board on Tuesday denied a request for compassionate release to Charles Manson follower Susan Atkins, who stabbed actress Sharon Tate to death nearly 40 years ago and is dying of brain cancer.

Sharon Tate's sister, Debra Tate, the last surviving member of her immediate family, sent a letter to the board opposing Atkins' release.

"She is a cold-blooded woman who to this day has not displayed any remorse," wrote Tate, who lives in the Los Angeles area.

Her doctors and officials at the women's prison in Corona made the request in March because of her deteriorating health. Atkins also has had her left leg amputated and is paralyzed on her right side, her husband and attorney, James Whitehouse, told the California Board of Parole Hearings.

Should California grant Susan Atkins a compassionate release?

last night i watched a documentary that was sad and disturbing. Jodi Huisentruit  was a television news anchor for KIMT based in Mason City, Iowa.   it is believed that she was abducted while on her way to work in the early morning hours of June 27, 1995.  she was 27 years old at the time and had her whole life and career ahead of her. the case is still unsolved.  someone had been watching her closely and knew her apartment number, the car she drove, and the time she left for work (3:00 a.m.)  there was an obvious struggle outside her car and her belongings were scattered in the parking lot.

you guys have a demanding job and i hold you in high esteem.  you truly are celebrities but without the body guards.  i realize you may not choose to disclose it, but i was wondering if any of you have ever felt threatened?

visit the site dedicated to the active search for the missing anchorwoman.

LONDON--  The first openly gay U.S. Episcopal bishop was barred from a once-a-decade Anglican meeting so he wouldn't become a focus of the global event.

Anglicans on all sides of the issue agree: the strategy has backfired.

New Hampshire Bishop Gene Robinson has been embraced by sympathetic Anglicans in England and Scotland who view his exclusion as an affront to their Christian beliefs.

Robinson plans several appearances on the outskirts of the Lambeth Conference to be what he called a "constant and friendly" reminder of gays in the church.

Robinson said in an interview Sunday with The Associated Press he's "just not willing to let the bishops meet and pretend that we don't exist."

He says "they've taken vows to serve all the people in dioceses, not just certain ones."

How can anyone call himself a Christian yet deny Christians who are unlike themselves?

Bravo to Bishop Robinson.  Note how the aritcle stated he is the first "openly" gay bishop and not first gay bishop.  It's so comforting to know that we don't have to stay concealed away living a pretentious lifestyle as though we don't exist .  Thanks to education there seems to be a climate that is less threatening to be out, to be true to oneself and others.

Thanks to all my friends, bloggers, and family who have embraced me just as I am .

poor lady.  she's a 88 year old nursing home resident admitted to our ICU.  i don't think her groin had seen a wash rag since 1962.  can you imagine one of yahyamoro's rotted tilapia's (head on) soaked in urine?  mariel and i donned our "code brown" armor and mixed the following ingredients:

1 cup perineal cleanser

1/2 cup shaving cream

2 cups septi-soft concentrate

1 dash mouthwash

1 small squirt toothpaste

Mix all ingredients vigorously in hot water.  Pour immediately into basin.

(not too much mouthwash - i hear it can burn the little man in the boat)

i cranked up her sedation and we soaked and scrubbed that woman down like a volkswagon.  i then went into my personal bag and grabbed some of my plumeria vanilla lotion and rubbed her down.  i bet she hasn't smelled as fresh since her prom and we all feel better.  feel free to borrow my recipe if needed as it is not yet patented. LOL

Sister DePaul (left) and Sister Dymphna - (circa 1978) for Sister DePaul's going back to Ireland party.

Sadly, the old church where this was held was torn down.  The church was used as an assembly hall for meetings, retreats, and even youth club dances.  There was a new church built for mass.  The churches only co-existed for about 10 years before the old one was destroyed.  Sister Depaul died in 1982.

Sister Marian was our principal at St. Mary's Nativity School in Raceland, Louisiana.  The nuns belonged to The Religious Order of the Sisters of Mercy (RSM) which is an order of Catholic women founded by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland.  They were appointed by their Mother Superior and gave up their lives as they knew to educate us both academically and spiritually.  They ruled with an iron fist and a big red yardstick. (the "red doctor" which we needed when we were "ill" behaved).  Sister Dymphna is 75 years old and alive and well.

This picture was taken of Sister Marian around 1973 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She gave them out to all the teachers and students. Mother Superior allowed her to return to Ireland to die near her family.  Sister Dymphna then became our principal. As strict as they were, I miss them terribly.  Those really were the good 'ole days.  We don't realize what a good thing we have til its gone.  God bless these women.

an atlanta man is behind bars accused of killing his own daughter.  police said the father (chaudhry rashad) was angry because he felt his daughter (sandela kanwal) was disgracing the family with plans to divorce her pre-arranged husband.  so divorce is more disgraceful than murder?  what is wrong with these people?

in new orleans, parishioners from about 15 Catholic parishes will learn whether or not their churches will be shut down.  some resigned to their fate quietly while others are vowing not to go down without a fight. dozens of parishes are marked for closure in a reorganization plan. the archdiocese is working to streamline as some parishes have not been able to recover after katrina.  there seems to be both a shortage of priests and parishioners.  my mom remembers when mass was said by the priest in latin with his back to the congregation.  she remains a devout Catholic.  do you think Catholicism is fading away or is it just a regional affect?

what is a "code brown" you ask?  a code brown is when a patient experiences a colonic explosion resulting in a bowel movement that could cover manhattan.  it may require two or more nurses to rect-ify the situation.  you haven't lived til you've burped a colostomy bag.  its like letting out 100 farts all at once.  at least we get to leave the room after, but it still wafts down the corridors.  then we sit down and have.....LUNCH! and some people think we get paid too much.  i love my job, i love my job. some patients have PBS (psychic bowel syndrome).  in spite of no intake for days, they continue to BLEEP what they haven't even eaten yet.  but really, if we don't make light of it we will go crazy.  you really don't have to leave your dignity at the door when you enter ICU.  ;-)
