So, we have new signs in our Fox 26 restrooms, reminding us the importance of washing our hands for 20-seconds!  Of course, as a Medical Reporter, I'm thrilled... :)

However, when's the last time you saw someone, who washed their hands that long?  Go ahead, count to 20.  It's a long time!  Some studies show it's useless to wash them any LESS time than that.

So, 'fess up - do you scrub-a-roo for 20?

20 seconds? Probably not that long. However, if I'm anywhere where I don't have soap, I have antibacterial gel in my purse.

I do. I also pull the paper towels down before washing my hands, and then I open the door with the paper towel before tossing it. What can I say--I work with kids, and know where their hands have been.

Yep-I sure do LOL! Well-at home I don't use the 20 second rule-but out in public and at work I do!

We carry antibacterial gel everywhere we go too-have one in each car, my purse etc. I keep anti bacterial at my desk at work, in each patient room, EVERYWHERE LOL! My poor hands stay so dry-so I am constantly using hand lotion on them too-and wearing latex gloves at work doesn't help the dryness either!

I do the same as Aponi-I open the bathroom doors with a paper towel--I also put the anti bacterial ON the potty seat IF there are not seat covers. I ALSO tear off the last several pieces of toilet paper and discard them-then I use the "fresh" toilet paper. You never know if someone "double wiped" and grabbed for the TP more than once LOL!

Hey, I just did a blog about this very subject! I guess like minds think alike...or both of us need to wash our hands more.

pbmom and kenswife - I'm also a big fan of antibacterial gel... what a "safe friend" to have around. :)

Aponi & kenswife - I bet you seldom get sick, eh?! Sounds like really good habits!

Have you noticed that in alot of the grocery stores they have antibacterial wipes?? They are right by the grocery carts--keeps all the yuckies off the the cart LOL! At our Kroger-they have the Clorox wipes-now we don't have to carry the antibacterial wipes with us to the store LOL! But they stay in the cars also!

Obviously, from this point forward, I'll be counting to 20. When I counted out loud, you were right Melissa, it was a long time. I thought I was thorough, and I do the paper towel thing, too, on the bathroom. Love that the stores are carrying antibacterial wipes now at the front. Patrick unfortunately has his hands constantly in his mouth (from his disabilities) so regardless of how good I think I am about washing my hands, I inevitably get whatever he brings home and usually get it worse because my immune system functions less well than his.

What can I say...I was drawn to the great reading material on the wall!

I have to admit, I'm healthy as a horse! This will be my 15th year working at a Jr. High in very close quarters with kids. I have never taken a sick day in those years. I wipe desks down with antibacterial wipes daily, and spray the carousel areas with lysol. I also wipe down the supply of pens and pencils I loan out to students that "forget" to bring them. I sometimes think those pens are in mouths more than they are on paper!

I enjoy anchoring the 9pm news at Fox 26 and also serving as Medical Reporter. My favorite parts of the day are hanging out in the O.R. in scrubs, then heading back to the station to get behind the anchor desk. One of my other favorite roles is being a mother. I was blessed with a son two years ago, and he has helped me see the world from a new perspective. I enjoy everything just a little more, now! I certainly look at medical reports in a new way, and understand more how important it is to help keep our viewers healthy & happy!
