The Vatican just released a new statement on the possibility of alien life in the Universe.  Basically it says it's okay to believe in E.T.'s and that believe doesn't contradict one's faith in God or Christ.    The story is everywhere.

No earth shattering news on this. I love how the media thinks these relevations are all "new" news. I've known this as a Catholic for years. The Catholic Church for years has said also evolution is not a threat to our beliefs either because it is very possible that as human beings we evolved as part of God's creation; however, the soul is not something that can evolve and that is what God gives us. Patrick is a product of mine and Jeff's DNA just as we are products of our ancestors' DNA. DNA changes over generations. Evolution and the Bible do not contradict each other as long as you don't believe the Bible was written literally word for word. For example, Genesis has two creation stories. If you believe it literally, then both can't be the exact word of God? So which one do you believe? It's very possible that 1 day could be a span of million of years, but it was written at a time where a person could not imagine what a million would even look like. So they wrote in terms they could understand. It is the Word of God, but God gave us all creativity. The gospels are all different as well because the creativity of the person or people who wrote them (theologians have thought that it was the disciples of the disciples who actually put it down in word versus the usual route of oral tradition.

Roman's see Jesus in the bark of a tree and the Virgin on burnt cheese toast so I guess it's not a real streach to believe in aliens. On the other hand we could be misunderstanding what the Vatican actually said and that could be that it's OK to believe in illegal aliens since most of them are Catholic.
