Your local nine is on a tear lately with some late inning heroics.   Lance Berkman is playing like an MVP and the rest of the offense is scoring just enough runs to make you forget about the team's still shaky starting rotation and bullpen.

Most importantly, they're back above .500 and within reach of first place.

Question is: Are the Astros really that good(beating the Nats and Brewers at home should be expected) or is this team building up false hope?

At least they're peeking our interests.

I try and watch the Astros when I can but my grandmother watches every game. She says they have not let her down, yet. We like what we see so far!

I wrote a blog on this but it didn't take, so I will profess my thoughts here.

The Astros have a "'27 Yankees murderers" row line-up (Bourg, Matsui, Tehata, Bergman, Lee, Spence, with Erstad down below) that will get their runs against most pitching.
It they don't against a good starter, they will get the bullpen in the later innings if the Astro pitching can hold the opposition to 2-5 runs.
With our mediocre pitching staff, if it gives up 5-10 runs, we will probably lose!
This has happened in about every games, except last nights game against the Cubbies, when they (almost did, but) failed.

This is a interesting team--
It used to be they had 3-4 strong hitters in a row--but now they can present 6 in a row at you which is a BIG help--
If the pitching shapes up--they have as good a line-up as any in the league, I think.

I am a sports anchor/reporter with Fox26. I grew up in a small town in Eastern Washington State called Kennewick. I graduated with a B.A. in communications/broadcast news from Washington State University in 1986. GO COUGS! Seattle is my adopted hometown after living and working there for nearly ten years. My favorite sports moment was covering the Superbowl in Houston and watching my favorite team, The Patriots, win a thriller over Carolina. Houston is a fantastic sports town that's missing just one thing, an NHL team!
