Insiders  say  we can expect one more bump at the  gas  pumps  as we head into the Memorial Day weekend.  It always happends.  Gas  companies always  jack up the  price of gas  just in time for summer.  So it's  going to be  a record  high gas price summer  for  all of us.

I had no plans of  driving anywhere this year.  We  usually  try to head to the hill country  for a week  but  looks like  we won't be going anywhere.  What  about you?  I have been hearing  talk of some folks  flying  because  it's  cheaper than the gas.

I don't know about you but I am disgusted by all this.  Here we risk our health living  under refineries for fuel and we wind up paying a record high price for gas and oil.  And everything is going up.  Can anyone name  anything  where the price is going down??    I would love to hear about it.

The past two years, we've borrowed my dad's RV and gone exploring - no destination, just a good US map in hand. The first year we went to Florida, then up through Georgia to Savannah and on to Stone Mountain. Last year we found ourselves (with Buddy and the dogs) fishing on the White River in Arkansas (great time there!). We're considering taking the SUV back to Arkansas, but we're not sure yet. One this is for sure - we aren't taking the RV this year. It irritates me that gas always go up before a holiday. It also irritated me that the further we got from Deer Park, the lower the gas prices were. I'm with you on that one Lanny - why are we paying so much for gas, when we live so close (13 blocks actually) from the refineries? Do you remember the gas lines of the late 1979/80 and your license plate determining when you could buy gas? We won't fall for that again, so now we pay higher prices for gas instead. Bush keeps saying we need to build more refineries to cure this problem. What he needs to do is stop bailing out banks/people who can't manage their creditors/debts, and stop dumping money all over the rest of the world, and build these magical cure refineries with that money. Grrrr.

I was living in San Marcos in the 70s and there was plenty of gas back then. I would come home here and there was No gas.....go figure.

I think the whole darn thing is ridiculous!!! The U.S. has plenty of drilling places and oil underground - OUR ground - where we could be supplying ourselves our petroleum products! But, oh NO - God forbid we hurt some little 'worm' or rat or WHATEVER form of wild life the 'tree huggers' are protecting!!!!! Our President has tried to pass some legislation to drill here in the continental U.S. and he's been blocked every time!!! Soooooo---------WE, the people, PAY!!! again and again and again!!! Yes, I agree that Bush needs to stop supporting our 'enemies' (who are supposed to be our allies) and the frivolous people who can't manage their finances, but especially the Saudis who see us as a bottomless pit for financial gain. They're millionaires a thousand times over and still they take our $$$ - that's how they became millionaires!!!

And one of those luxury apartments is for ExxonMobil, one for BP, one for Shell (the ones across from Discovery Green).

We need solar and wind power now, then we can switch over to totally electric-powered cars (the power of which is supplied by solar or wind). Installing solar panels for your home, once your initial investment pays off, means you wouldn't have to pay a company to power your home ever again. If we put into providing grants and business start-up money to these companies, maybe they could come up with affordable options for the average American. And then give the average Americans huge tax cuts to invest in them. But see there is a problem. But this won't happen because oil and gas own many of our politicians and they have a huge lobby. Some of them are even many huge profits off the high price of gas, so there is no incentive for them to introduce a bold new initiative like this.

I'm sorry, I meant to say if we put the money we put into the invasion of Iraq into providing these grants and business start-up money and tax rebates, we'd be well on our way to getting off the finite product of oil. Building refineries is just stupid. It is to provide a short-term remedy only. We need the long-term solution more immediately. The long-term solutions of solar and wind power would also produce more jobs.

Rent "Who Killed the Electric Car" a documentary about the electric car from the 1970's and the complicated relationship of the car industry and the oil industry and how cheaply this could be reintroduced.

THE RISING GAS PRICES ARE VERY FRUSTRATING. IT SO RIDICULOUS THAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS. AFTER WHILE IT WILL BECOME DIFFICULT TO TRAVEL TO WORK EVERYDAY. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND FAST.

Lanny,

The only place I know where prices go down is WalMart. Sorry, that sounds like a commercial, but WalMart takes key items and drives the cost down when it acquires it from a wholesaler.

A lot of the company's prices go up, but it also works on forcing down many prices.

Would it make a difference if the oil comapnies and execs who worked there reduced their salaries/profits to allow us little people to be able to afford gas? I heard OPEC is not releasing stores until September, but apparently there are reserves available.
