If you haven't  seen the video of  veteran anchorwoman  Sue Simmons  letting the  F   bomb  fly  on live tv this week  then you need to stop right now  and go to  you tube  and enter  her name.

The  NBC anchor at  the NBC flagship station in New  York City  lets  one  rip  during a live tease  promoting their  11 o'clock  news.  She said  she and her co-anchor  had been taping  promos and teases   OFF  air  to be used  later.  Said she didn't know  she was  HOT  when she let the   bomg  fly.    Watch it and you be the judge.

As a broadcaster  anytime  you are wearing a mic and are in front of the camera  you  keep a  civil  tongue in your mouth  because you never know  when someone   in the booth  might  punch up your  mic  without your knowledge.   I don't think there is ANY excuse  for  her  on air   F-word.  Having said that I have   known to curse like  a  sailor  and  have  always kept it clean for the cameras  though that  wasn't the case on radio.

Years ago at our rock and roll auction  when I was  with KLOL  we were live in the Summit  with  rock stars on stage auctioning off their  guitars for charity.  It was about  10 o'clock at night  and I thought our  radio broadcast was over  when I  too let the F bomb fly out across the  radio air waves.    Granted this was a  rock and roll station with rockers  listening in who thought it was a riot.  I was not aware that we were live of course until after I said it............then I wanted to crawl in a hole.    As professionals  we aren't  supposed to  cause the F.C.C to even glance our direction, let along  fine us.  We  weren't fine and I  kept my job   because  I honestly  thought the radio portion of the show was over.

So what's your thoughts on this?  I don't think she's  going away, she's been there for  25 years.   Yet the Howard Sterns and Don Imuses  get  fined, banned, and or  fired for their  bits.

I d-jayed for KTRU for two years and spent a year at an internet based stations. KTRU made us sign a release stating that if we slipped up and said the "F" word WE were responsible for any and all fines. When seth McFarlane did the FCC song on Family Guy I laughed so hard I nearly gagged.

she said her coo-anchor wasn't paying attention to his script. Instead you can clearly see he is playing on his computer which is embedded into the anchor desk. Some at work thought it sounded like she was kidding him, I thought it was the roughest thing I had ever heard someone say to another co-worker.

She'll probably get a raise for that heart-felt apology. She was really mad at someone though wasn't she?

Well geez, I thought she was talking about the boat being parked. When I do swear, the F word seems to be the one that comes out of my mouth most frequently. My image has been shattered!

Lanny, you have the FCC to worry about and I have HIPAA to worry about. Working from home, I have to take extra special precautions about not violating anyone's rights with regards to their medical records. If we accidentally choose a wrong patient (or if the doctor tells us he is dictating for patient A and it turns out he meant patient B) we can get a $10,000 fine. Patrick's school violated his HIPAA rights by the school nurse emailing information about him that I didn't give her permission to do to the vice principal that wasn't relevant for him knowing and regardless of her good intentions, it was a violation. It would be like me getting your medical record for part of your hospital stay and my turning around and saying to someone at Fox 26 -- Hey, did you know Lanny was in the hospital; let's do something for him. Good intentions, yes, but HIPAA violation!

It wasn't that long ago it was appalling to hear any vulgar language on TV. Of course then I thought it cool as was KLOL (a sign of rebellion or coming of age I guess). I too notice all the disrespectful attitudes, potty language and gratuitous sex on television and wonder what will appall future generations.
