CALLING ON COMPUTER WHIZZES!!!!!!!!!!!Jul 22, 2008 | 10:47 PM

This is for all of you that are computer literate LOL!!  I'm not sure, but I think my computer is getting sick-hope it's not a virus.  I have McAffee, Ad Aware, and SpyBlaster on it-so I can't imagine a little intruder getting in it--but I guess anythings possible!!  I do all of the temporary file clean outs etc. on a daily basis-remove cookies etc.  BUT.................

it has started making a loud "winding" noise where the fan is--only if we are on the computer for  a long period of time OR if we are on a page that has alot of "flash" stuff on it.  Sometimes when we are on "My Space" it runs very slow and the cursor moves in very slow motion.  I have plenty of memory left-so I doubt that could be the problem.

I had the computer cleaned out etc. last year due to viruses--and it was basically "rebuilt".

ANY suggestions out there?  Anything I can check on myself before paying big bucks to get it looked at???

We'll have to see if we can get our computer whiz, Doug Deloney, to answer this one.

Not to scare you - my laptop sounded like that last year - then it went up in smoke (literally). But I think that was typical drama with laptops, last yr. It was sickening to replace it - only a few months old. OUCH.

My big pc in my office (not my laptop - yet) does that occasionally and my bf is an IT person. I said something about the fan whining and he came in there and moved my papers from in front of the intake - where the air goes in to keep the internal hardware cool. I've had other pcs that have done that and once I had to have the fan replaced. Since they fan keeps the pc cool it's really important. Sometimes it only involves cleaning the dust off of the fan - he blows the fan out with high pressure air - like on the tank that he adds air to the tires with a different attachment. Its much the same as cleaning a floor fan - you can do it as he does with that air cleaning which gets inside the motor which is really where it gets clogged up. Otherwise if you can't use air to clean it - you can at least clean the blades which also get totally covered with dust and dander.

All the whining is - is the fan dragging. And like Melinda said with her pc - it can literally go up in smoke - if the fan stops working as it eventually will if it is working double time to cool your pc - first the fan will stop working and never come on and then the pc will overheat and no longer work. It can burn up the pc.

The ac was just out in the computer room where my bf works and it was a huge deal that the temperature wouldn't stay between 65 and 70. Everytime the temp would go above 75 they had to get AC people out there as all the equipment in the IT room can burn up. Computers - hard drives have to stay cool or the equipment will fail.

Sounds like your are at the time when you c

Sounds like your are at the time when you can still just clean the fan before any damage occurs.

Hope this helps. :-)

Yeah-I did use an air sprayer but it still is LOUD. It doesn't wind-but you can definately hear the "brain" working! It moves slower too.
