Okay-let's see if I can make this long story short LOL!

A few weeks ago, my grandson came home from school and called me telling me that our whole neighborhood had received some kind of plastic containers from Bayer.  He said he'd leave it on the front porch for me.  I thought to myself-"Why would they leave something FREE?"

I got home and sure enough-there was a nice blue plastic storage container on my porch.  Inside the nice container was a note from the City of Baytown encouraging us to "recycle" and leave the blue container out on the curb on garbage day LOL!  I told Ken that I was using this little box to store some old toys in LOL!

Well-Ken called the City of Baytown inquiring about these containers etc.  He was told that whether we recycle or not, an add'l $2.50 per month is being added onto our water bill!!  We were both SHOCKED LOL!  So basically, this cute little blue storage box is costing us a small fortune to "rent" LOL!  Goes to show that you really don't get "something for nothing" nowadays do ya??

Has this happened in any other cities??  If so, what are YOUR charges??

Here's a picture of my "million dollar" blue storage container LOL!!

Kenswife, I never even checked to see if we get charged. I have 2... one for paper, the other for plastic/aluminum. We just about fill both every week!

I don't think we get charged for ours, but I'd have to double-check that to be sure.

I know everything adds up very quickly, but I think $2.50 is a small price to pay to help the community keep up with it's recycling efforts.

Every level of government, Federal, State and Local have one thing in common, what they lack in morals, ethics and ability they more than make up for in imagining more ways to steal your money.

I'd get everyone in town to take those stupid blue advertisements for Bayer and toss them in the street in front of city hall. Then demand that they replace your "lost" bin at no charge. Repeat as necessary.

I use two of those containers to put recyclables in for just 3 people. It is estimated that only 1-2% of the population recycles their plastic. As a result, there is now a patch of ocean in the Pacific that is larger than the size of Texas that goes very deep below the water and as you know, it takes about 1,000 years for the sun to break down plastic. Our fish are now ingesting these phthalates which is poisoning them and our food supply. This earth is a gift from God; it's up to us to take care of it. I think $2.50 a month to take care of God's planet is worth it. I don't think you'd be very happy if a landfill was going to be opened up close to your home, again, which would be paid for by an increase to your taxes, a fee they tax on somewhere else, etc. Recycling makes sense. What Jeff and I can't recycle at the curb, we store in the garage until we get a carload of stuff stored up and we drive to the Montgomery County recycling center (they take just about anything -- paint, glass, plastic garbage bags that our curbside won't take, computers for a small fee, anything wood, anything metal, yard waste, etc.
