News reports stated that another mother left her two children in a vehicle while she went inside her home after a night of drinking and literally fell asleep. Passed out is more like it, IMO. I cannot comprehend forgetting about having one child in a car, let alone two. Why does this keep happening?
Also, apparently an animal control agent for BARC went to lunch and will have us believe that she left the a/c on in her vehicle for 40 minutes as she ate, however, eight dogs perished from the heat. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to leave the keys in the ignition for the a/c to run? Why would anyone leave their vehicle running for forty minutes and abandon it to go inside a restaurant and eat?

Hi Doug! I'm having a computer issue I hope you can help me with. I'm constantly getting a pop-up stating that I do not have enough disc space on recovery D. The recycle bin shows there is nothing in there to delete. I have tried everything I know to free up space. Any advice? thank you!

I noticed several blogs addressing this issue,so rather than respond to each individually, I wish to submit my overall opinion.
Although, it was not a wise move on her part to have unprotected sex, she did, and now she must face a consequence. No matter how good of a parent you are, kids are going to do what they want when they reach a certain age. I do not want McCain and Palin to be our future leaders, but I do not feel this situation should impact Palin's political aspirations. She is a public figure and personally, I feel the family is handling the situation with grace. I think there would be more of a backlash had this teen sought abortion; she is (I believe) five months pregnant and it is far too late for her to even consider that option.
This is not the '50's where unwed pregnancies are hidden and the young women are shipped off to live with relatives.

President Bush may not appear at the Republican National Convention due to possible impact from Gustav. Correct me if my sense of geography is wrong, but isn't Minnesota way off from the path of the storm? What's he going to do- go hide with his friends in Saudi Arabia?

I love when we get to see who the bloggersare and get a taste of their lifestyle. I knew from Appolonian's blog that he wore a kilt, but I very wrongly assumed that he was a woman! BTW, his legs aren't so bad!

Absurdly, Vladimir Putin, Russia's president is blaming the Bush administration for the current uprising between Georgia and Russia. I make no bones about disliking our current president and his cronies, but Putin's assessment that this was an act forged by Bush to deliver a Republican win in November is just too outlandish, even for me. Then again, I believed Bush in 2003 when he insisted that Sadaam Hussein was hiding WMD.

I just heard that John McCain has supposedly chosen Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska as his running mate. i suppose that is one way to detract the Hillary supporters from Obama.
Isn't she under investigation for intimidating a state trooper who was married to her sister? Abuse of power, is that what it is called?

Michael Gonzalez and his wife were traveling on a Texas highway at 100 MPH to take their dying teacup poodle, Missy, to a vet. They were pulled over for speeding and delayed by 15 minutes by a rookie cop who replied, after being informed of the situation, "It's just a dog; you can get another one. relax." Missy died in the car during the ticketing of Gonzalez. Was he right or wrong? I, for one, would go to the ends of the earth to save Zoe's life. She is such a part of the family. I told Brittany that she has really brought us all together because she plays such a part in all of our lives. She does nothing wrong, she's affectionate and amusing, and we all love her dearly.

Deportation of Illegal immigrants. This is a follow-up to an earlier blog I had written about ICE's policy to allow illegals to turn themselves in without fear of prosecution. According to news reports, only one person has turned himself in since the inception of the program which began August 5th. The pilot program, currently taking place in Charlotte, NC, Chicago, Phoenix, San Diego, and Santa Ana, CA, ends on August 22nd. A costly media blitz that went nowhere.
Hopefully, I am satisfying Obama's issuance of a statement that we should all be bilingual by attempting to address the topic and using a Spanish heading. I make no claims as to the accuracy of spelling or structure as I am an old bird and my ability to be bilingual is what I have learned from watching Sesame Street when my kids were younger.
I took French in college to bypass the norm, but eked by with a "C."

I believe I got this correct: Weather forecasters have predicted 14-18 hurricanes, 4-6 tornadoes, and 3-6 major hurricanes this season. Every year, we get these forecasters with their inane predictions. They are never right. Why do they keep doing it?

Has anyone noticed a decrease in the level of good customer service lately? I have been having problems with my Internet and Embarq sent me a new modem. After adhering to the directions to replace it, I was still experiencing problems with my connection. I had to call them and the CSR sounded so indifferent to my issue. Maybe it was b/c I had had to call them on a regular basis prior to the replacement of said modem and had been labeled, but I am paying dearly for a service that has a monopoly in the area.
It just seems that everwhere I go, CSR's, retail workers, and service personnel are disinterested and do not have the customer's best interests at heart anymore. When I worked, I had such a work ethic and bent over backwards to ensure that my clients received optimum care. I do not see this work ethic in todays workers. Most are lazy, disorganized, and indifferent. Does anyone view this as a widespread problem or is it just me?

The CDC has issued a report stating that the average time of an emergency room wait has increased in time from 36 minutes in 1997 to an hour's wait today. This includes people having symptoms of a heart attack. I would like to know what ER's they know of where the wait is only an hour? The last time I was in the ER at Kinqwood Hospital, I waited for over 3 hours. Prior to that, I was in their ER for around 5 hours, after checking in for chest pain. My BP was elevated and I take heart meds. Kingwood Hospital is repeatedly on a list as being one of the better hospitals in the area. What I'd like to know is has anyone actually been to the ER or taken a family member to one, where the wait has only been an hour?

Today (Wednesday), Audiojeff rocked us with "Mustang Sally." I was bouncing up and down as soon as I heard the beat. If he keeps it up like that, maybe I can forego the coffee addiction I recently picked back up! Nice to know that the morning crew loves that song, too!

On Sunday, prior to the inconvenient thunderstorm that we experienced, my husband called me from work and told me that a co-worker's family member had called to warn of the impending storm. I turned on the TV in an effort to access info about what to expect and Fox 26 was the only local news channel that addressed the storm. Fox also ran a ticker stating that the "severe thunderstorm warning" was effective for Montgomery and other counties until 4:30 pm. At 4:35, the storm had passed and I mentioned to Brittany how accurate Fox's reporting had been. Thanks Fox weatherteam!

Apparently, The Texas legislature has voted to decrease the penalty for possessing up to four ounces of marijuana from an arrest and trip to jail to a written citation. So far, Travis and Colorado Counties have implemented the law and Dallas County is preparing to do so. In Harris County, Sheriff Tommy Thomas opposes the law, stating that the offenders probably won't show up for court, resulting in an arrest warrant anyway and candidate Adrian Garcia states it sends the wrong message. District Attorney candidates, Dem Clarence Bradford and Republican Pat Lykos are not totally opposed, but haven't yet committed to a stance on the issue. Bradford believes it will free up the jails for serious offenders while Lykos believes that a person's life shouldn't be ruined by a small amount of pot. Personally, I believe pot should be decriminalized altogether, but writing citations instead of hauling people off to jail for a county sentence of six months to a year, with a possible fine is a step in the right direction. It is no secret that county jails in Texas (especially Harris) are overcrowded and poorly maintained. Most of the people that I know who partake are responsible and hard-working and use marijuana as an alternative to drinking in order to relax.
