Now I've only seen bits and pieces of this story, but it is a sad one nonetheless. Supposedly, Comedienne and Talk Show Hostess Ellen DeGeneres and her Partner, Actress Portia DeRossi adopted a dog from a Dog Adoption agency. Obviously, the dog did not workout in the DeGeneres/DeRossi household. So, Ellen found a good home for the pooch. However, she violated the rules of her Dog Adoption agreement and the Dog was removed from its new home, where a little girl had grown attached to her new pup. The Dog Adoption Agency removed the Dog from that home, citing the breech of contract by DeGeneres/DeRossi. And, they said that all their potential adoptees must have a backround check done and they must observe their family's everyday lifestyle and behavior. However, it's been revealed that none of this was done with DeGeneres and DeRossi. Now, the Dog has been placed in ANOTHER home with ANOTHER family and the attorney for the Dog Adoption Agency has said this family will "Never, Never, Never, Never" get that Dog. Now, like I said, I don't know the whole story, but the family who Ellen gave the Dog to, looked all right to me. Their house looked nice. It was obvious that the girl loved the dog and she was distraught when the dog was removed. Ellen's heart was in the right place, even though she did violate the adoption agreement. Given Ellen seems like a stand-up person (despite what some people think of her personal lifestyle) and it seems like this family who wanted to keep the dog is all right. I'm wondering about this Dog Adoption Agency. I thought these people were supposed to be finding good homes for the Dogs. Apparantly, if you're rich and famous, it's ok to adopt their dogs, but put them with a loving, caring family who may not have all of the same luxuries and it's a no-go. I think for what they have put this family through, they should be ashamed of themselves. It's clearly a heartbreaking story with no winners. I just hope this story has some sort of resolution that will make everyone happy in the end.
Like most jobs, when you work around people for a good deal of time, they become more like family to you, than just friends. Well a very good friend of mine's child is fighting an uphill battle. I know I'm not the only San Antonio transplant here, so some of you may be familiar with the name Brandy Ralston. She is originally a Houstonian. She is a former reporter/producer for KENS-TV, which is the CBS station in San Antonio and I worked with her in the late 90's. Brandy's husband James is a San Antonio Police Officer. Their family needs your prayers today and I'm asking all you wonderful bloggers to pray for a miracle for my dear friend and her child. Here's the story...
Some of you may know that Brandy Ralston's son is at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Downtown.
Her 3 year old son, Connor has a large tumor in his head. Surgeons have created a drip line to help relieve the pressure the fluid is causing on his brain.
The tumor has wrapped itself around the brain stem and part of the spine.
At this time the doctors say the tumor is inoperable because of the sensitive areas where it is located.
Brandy and her husband James are devastated and are asking for positive thoughts and prayers to get them through this uncertain time.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, doctors will perform a biopsy to determine how fast the tumor is growing and to see if it is malignant or benign.
Regardless of the malignancy - the doctors say there is little hope for a positive outcome because of where the tumor is situated.
Again - the request from the entire Ralston-Lint family is that we all pray. Pray for Healing, Strength, Peace, Wisdom for the doctors, Rest for the family when possible and above all - please pray for a Miracle
Michael Vick To Plead Guilty

Well what most of us knew already, has become true today, as Atlanta Falcons Quarterback, Michael Vick's attorney, Billy Martin announced today that his client intends to enter a plea of guilty to take a deal. Under the deal, Vick will probably have to serve a year in Federal Prison and pay a lofty fine. Vick had to decide by today whether to accept the plea agreement or the case would go to trial, in which Vick could have served up to ten years if found guilty. The evidence was overwhelmingly against him, as two of his former associates from "Bad Newz Kennels", their dog fighting operation, had basically thrown Vick under the bus, saying he financed the whole thing and was in on the gambling and destroying of the losing dogs.
It is a very sad story all the way around. When Vick was drafted by the Falcons, he was a marketing tool. At one time, his #7 Vick jersey was the hottest selling jersey in the NFL, by an almost 2-1 margin. He had a few commercials nationally, and a lot more locally in Atlanta and Virginia. He was the face of the franchise. Along with Hank Aaron and Dominique Wilkens, he was one of the largest names in Atlanta sports history. A few years ago, he signed a 10 year, $130 million dollar contract. However, as much talent as Vick had on the field, his problems off the field have been just as huge. He and his brother, Marcus, have been in and out of trouble with the law, since their school days. There was the infamous water bottle incident at the airport, where a water bottle had a "secret compartment" and had a marijuana smell. Then there was the picture of him floating around a MySpace sight, that had him smoking a blunt. But this dogfighting business is the worst of them all.
In my opinion, he's getting off too light. What they said that "Bad Newz Kennels" did to these dogs when they lost, is beyond contemptible. If it were up to me, you could lock him up and throw away the key, not to mention, I'd like to turn some mean dogs on him and see how he likes it. Anyone who abuses animals like that, should be punished just as much as if you harm a human being, even more so, because they can't fight back as much. Sure they have teeth, but that basically it.
Also, if it were up to me, he'd never play another game in the NFL again. If I were NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, he'd get a lifetime ban. If Pete Rose got banned for life, for gambling on baseball, Vick should get a lifetime ban too for murdering these helpless animals and turning them into killers and doing it for gambling purposes. To me, that's an offense that warrants a lifetime ban. The person I feel sorry for is Falcons owner Arthur Blank. He put a lot of his credibility and his finances behind Vick. Not only does he have to deal with this unwanted media circus now, but he has to deal with the aftermath, which includes a fan base that still believes Vick didn't do anything wrong. Yes, you heard me right, a recent poll of Falcons fans, a majority of them still think Vick didn't do anything wrong. One guy said, "it's just a little dogfighting, come on." That statement is almost as offensive as what Vick did. A lot of Falcons fans have threatened to give up their season tickets, if Vick is cut by the Falcons. So, Blank really is in a no-win situation. You've heard of a story where there are no winners. This is a textbook example of that. Blank loses, Atlanta Falcons fans lose, the NFL loses, the poor dogs lose, and most of all, the Hundred-Million Dollar Quarterback, with a bright future has lost, too. The only thing about it, is he has no one to blame but himself. In listening to an interview with Vick's first NFL coach, Dan Reeves, he told Vick that one of these days, the people he associates with are going to get him into a lot of trouble. Well, he'll have about a year behind bars to ponder that statement. However, he can also ponder, that he's getting off light. And, it's a dog-gone shame, literally.
Good New Hospital on the West Side

I know when you use the phrase enjoyable Hospital stay, it is kind of oxymoronic. However, Friday morning I found myself having to go to the hospital and I decided to try the new North Cypress Medical Center at 290 and Huffmeister. The facility is immaculate. All the rooms are private, they have comfortable beds, flat screen TV's with about 25 channels. The menu is incredible, although at the end of the day, it's still hospital food. But, you get a decent amount of choices. And, the staff is top notch and very friendly. And, unlike the last hospital I went to, they seem to care most about getting you healthy than the almighty dollar. So, if you live on the west side and need to go to the hospital, I highly recommend North Cypress.
Damali touched on this with the smoking at Kemah, where it is not forbidden yet, unfortunately. However, one of my favorite restaurants is Luling City Market on Richmond. They have some of the best Hill Country BBQ in the city. However, right when you walk through the doors, you get bombarded with cigarrette smoke, as the bar is right as you walk in to the establishment. However, the bar is not in a separate area and it is in the same room as the dining area. I could have sworn that the City of Houston passed a Smoking ban in the city limits, and would that not include Luling City Market? How are they able to skirt the law? I love their food, but I don't love smelling like I had just been to the pool hall, especially when I am normally on my way to work. Is there anything that can be done about this? Or is there a loophole that allows Luling to operate this way?
