Now I've only seen bits and pieces of this story, but it is a sad one nonetheless.  Supposedly, Comedienne and Talk Show Hostess Ellen DeGeneres and her Partner, Actress Portia DeRossi adopted a dog from a Dog Adoption agency.  Obviously, the dog did not workout in the DeGeneres/DeRossi household.  So, Ellen found a good home for the pooch.  However, she violated the rules of her Dog Adoption agreement and the Dog was removed from its new home, where a little girl had grown attached to her new pup.  The Dog Adoption Agency removed the Dog from that home, citing the breech of contract by DeGeneres/DeRossi.  And, they said that all their potential adoptees must have a backround check done and they must observe their family's everyday lifestyle and behavior.  However, it's been revealed that none of this was done with DeGeneres and DeRossi.  Now, the Dog has been placed in ANOTHER home with ANOTHER family and the attorney for the Dog Adoption Agency has said this family will "Never, Never, Never, Never" get that Dog.  Now, like I said, I don't know the whole story, but the family who Ellen gave the Dog to, looked all right to me.  Their house looked nice.  It was obvious that the girl loved the dog and she was distraught when the dog was removed.  Ellen's heart was in the right place, even though she did violate the adoption agreement.  Given Ellen seems like a stand-up person (despite what some people think of her personal lifestyle) and it seems like this family who wanted to keep the dog is all right.  I'm wondering about this Dog Adoption Agency.  I thought these people were supposed to be finding good homes for the Dogs.  Apparantly, if you're rich and famous, it's ok to adopt their dogs, but put them with a loving, caring family who may not have all of the same luxuries and it's a no-go.  I think for what they have put this family through, they should be ashamed of themselves.  It's clearly a heartbreaking story with no winners.  I just hope this story has some sort of resolution that will make everyone happy in the end.

There is absolutely NO reason for the adoption agency to have reacted the way they did. The fact that Ellen breached the contract was a situation that should have only involved ELLEN and the AGENCY. The right and moral thing to have been done was to have the agency do it's checking on the new family and for Ellen to have paid any cost involved. To give the dog to another home before the situation was resolved was mean sprited and completely uncalled for.SHAME on the agency!

I agree with you Murphy2747 like I always do. It makes them look really bad and I seen Ellen do a plea on her show. She was really upset over this. Just because they do a background check on a family doesn't mean that in reality the dog is going to a good home.

This story just gets stranger and stranger! I'm wondering if any of the players are sane anymore. I completely understand the rescue group's policy. Too many people make "emotional" decisions to adopt. I really appreciate rescue groups who take the time to investigate potential families. Ellen should have researched and spent more time with Iggy to learn his personality. I've heard this agency doesn't place small dogs with families who have "small" children. I'm not sure I understand that. It seems like this rescue group needs to let go of its pride and work on mending its reputation. By the way, is there a picture of Iggy out there?

This is common with rescue groups, me having adopted one, Buddy, before he died and we got a new puppy from a breeder.

The rescue groups are extremely controlling. They never came to look at my home. I filled out an application at the Dog Show at Reliant Hall and never heard from them despite their web site saying they were desperate for homes. I had to email them repeatedly that we really wanted a dog and could they please expedite our application. We read the contract thoroughly. I was required to notify them even when the dog died. If the adoption didn't work out, I was required to return him (and that, I'm sure, would have barred me from ever adopting again). They give YOU the dog they think is best for you based on your application, not the one you want. We had a great match with Patrick, but these rescue groups can be militant in their standards.

Shame on them for not working with the family Ellen gave the dog to. Ellen's tears were genuine. It probably feels like a parent who adopted a child only for the birth parents to change their mind and want the baby back after they've bonded with that baby. I bet you that little girl felt the same way.

I can understand the agency's position, to a degree. They also have a policy of not adopting pets into homes with family members under the age of 14. The girl Ellen gave the dog to looks under 14. This could have and should have been handled differently by the agency, and it's sad that this story will probably change a lof of people's minds about adopting through rescue agencies.

It is just a dog. Too much energy went into this story and was blown out of proportion. The agency has a right to do what they did plain and simple. Ellen should have checked it out the contract first before giving the dog away. It is basicaly her fault. Crying for sympathy does not sway me. I have a business also so I know what it is like to run a business. This never would have made national news if she did not bring it to the attention of her fans. Of course, they are going to take her side. There are many animals that need adoption, the family could have gone to the shelter to find one just as loving and would have been just as happy. Shame on all of them!
