It's been well documented for quite awhile by the far right and Republicans that they want to be the party that stands for "Family Values." While campaigning last week in New Hampshire, Former NYC Mayor, Rudy Guiliani was asked a question by a lady about his family. She basically asked him since his daughter was supporting Barack Obama and his son decided not to campaign for his Dad, how could we trust him as President, if his own Family doesn't even trust him? Rudy was clearly flustered by the legitimate question, and proceeded to tell the lady basically, "don't interfere in my family's life, and I won't interfere in your family's life." Personally, I could careless about Rudy's private life. But, it's hard for me to see the "Family Values" people throwing their support behind Rudy. After all, here's a man, who most people said knowingly married his second cousin, Regina Peruggi in 1968, although he denies he knew she was. The marriage had rocky points in the mid 70's and they separated and got back together a couple of times. It was until they agreed to split for good in 1982, that the "second cousin" information became widely known. He had already met and fallen for second wife Donna Hanover at that time. Given the "second cousin" issue came to light, the marriage was annulled. He luckily had no kids with Peruggi. He married Donna Hanover in 1984 and the couple had two children. However, this marriage also had lots of ups and downs. In the late 90's, Rudy became romantically involved with one of his aides, Cristyne Lategano. After it came to light, Hanover had her barred from Gracie Mansion (home to the New York City's Mayor). Soon after that, Rudy met his third wife, Judith Nathan, and the two began their affair. In 2001, Hanover and Guiliani separated and went through an ugly divorce in the media. The divorce became final in 2002. And, in 2003, Guiliani married Nathan. This is why it is surprising to see Rudy leading the Republican pack and actually has a shot to win the nomination.

My question is, do you think Rudy should be obligated to answer the question about how should the country trust him, if his own family doesn't, or was the question "out of bounds and not relevant? Also, explain why you feel that way.

i think the question is irrelevant. his family may not support him for reasons that have nothing to do with his capability to handle the presidency. his kids may have sided with their mom since she and rudy divorced and perhaps they wouldn't support him in anything. its a different story if his platform is "family values" while he is banging an intern, e-mailing boys for hook-ups, or getting BJ's under the desk. i have little tolerance for hypocrisy.

If you can't walk the walk, then don't talk the talk. I can see both sides, though.
On one hand, I believe that the USA should be run like a business, with the gov't having no input on personal issues from euthanasia, abortion, to divorce, and personal sexual preference. What two ADULT people do behind closed doors is nobodys business, as long as everyone is of legal age and consenting: no one is hurt against their will and no laws are broken. I mean, JFK was a total s**t as a husband, but an awesome pres, as was Clinton.
OJ Simpson one heckuva football player. Elvis was one heckuva entertainer. But their personal issues? Yikes.
But when you look at someone to represent the USA, you have to consider their character. They may be an awesome pres, but do you really want a known cad being the face of America? (Granted, most of the world laughed at us for being horrified regarding Clinton's marital pecadilloes, but because mistresses are the norm around the world, they thought we were being ridiculous worrying about Clinton's tallywacker with everything else that was going on.)
How can we tell the rest of the world how to run their respective countries, when our Pres can't even keep his private life out of the news? How can we tell countries they are immoral and their people aren't free when we restrict our people's private lives?
We look like hypocrites.

Lead question in this weeks rasmussen poll -
when it comes to your vote in the presidential election how important is a candidate's relationship with his or her family ?
Results released monday night - but I got a peek and the numbers are pretty impressive.
Could spell trouble for Rudy and Hillary.

I think the question is irrelevant. This week his family may not trust him, but next week they may. People are too wishy-washy, for lack of a better term. I've always lived by the adage: you can please someone some times, but you cannot please everyone every time... or something like that. The point is, his personal life is just that-- PERSONAL. Unless, of course, it involves illegal activity. I don't agree that someone with his track record should be a spokesperson for any conservative, family values group. And, I only have that opinion because his personal life was put out there. I can use as ammunition whatever bullets are provided.

It would be nice if popularity would be taken out of the campaign...We need someone with good work history, work performance. Political or otherwise. I do not care about gender or color, I care about a persons integrity. Nixon didnt have it...Nor did Mr. Bill Clinton to name a few. Look rather at thier work ethic and accomplishments. And perhaps yes, thier charactor. But that should be the larger focus on political campaigns..Also personal life/family life should be excluded. That should be left alone. Enough said?

Ima, Rudy admits to not knowing she was his second cousin, but instead thought she was his third cousin. When his web site went (I haven't checked recently), it didn't even list his children at all. The priest who actually helped him get that anullment (because it is not easy to get an anullment in the Catholic Church) was the same priest implicated in the sex scandal in the Catholic Church. This priest was later given a job with Rudy in his lobbying firm. The marriage wasn't annulled because Regina was his cousin; it was annulled because he wanted to marry Donna in the Catholic Church. So Guiliani committed adultery while married to Donna. According to the Catholic Church's rules, unless he got his marriage to Donna annulled, then he is living in a state of mortal sin with Judith as an adulterer. He should not be receiving Holy Communion in this state of sin. Also, his stand on abortion saying he supports the Roe V Wade decision of allowing women to have a choice although he is against it, the Catholic Church could actually excommunicate them because they are supposed to espousing the tenets of our Church. They said something about not allowing Kerry to receive communion for his viewpoints on abortion, yet nothing happens to Guiliani. I guess Kerry didn't have a priest friend like Guiliani does to get him out of such trouble.

Giuliani started his political career as a Democrat, admiring the Kennedy family, working as a party committee person on Long Island in the mid-1960's, volunteering for Robert F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1968 and voting for George McGovern for president in 1972. In 1975 he switched his party registration from Democrat to Independent. On December 8, 1980, one month after the election of Ronald Reagan brought Republicans back in power in Washington, his switched his party affiliation to Republican although many of his points of view are still conserative liberal. There was speculation that he switched positions in order to get at the Justice Department. Even his mother said, "He only became Republican after he began to get all these jobs from them. He's definitely not a conservative Republican. He thinks he is, but he isn't." So his own mother doesn't buy the act. Then in 1989, he attempted to run for mayor as a "fusion" candidate (of both Republican and Democratic parties). He lost to David Dinkins. David Dinkins said that Giuliani had trouble even getting the "R" word out--he didn't like to admit he was a Republican. In 1993, Giuliani again ran for mayor on the Liberal Party line although Republican still. In 1997 he also ran on the Liberal Party line.

I think all you need to do is look at 9/11. He's made millions off the fact that he was only in office for 2-1/2 months afterwards. He knew about the poor air quality for the rescue workers but did nothing. No, in fact, he was so busy in Albany trying to get his term extended instead of focusing

on the city. It was Michael Bloomberg who is the true hero of the 9/11 aftermath.

I wrote a three parts to my intended 4 part on Rudy. It may be in my archived July blogs.

Now to answer your question: It is very relevant to know why your own family doesn't support you for president. One thing about Rudy is that he wants to be more a dictator than a president. You disagree with him and he will squash you like a bug. Isn't it interesting that his mother, his children, some of his lifelong friends who are now no longer friends of his describe him power hungry and carries out hit squads on people who disagreed with him. An example, he leaked all this untrue information about his long-time friend who disagreed with him. The day it was leaked was the day this poor man was burying his wife and he had to fend off the media while preparing to give the eulogy. He couldn't believe that this man would be so hateful as to do that to him on the day he was burying his wife.

Why is he leading in the polls? Because the man has charisma. If this man is elected, then we have the conservative right to blame for getting baited and falling for it yet a third time. Doesn't their faith in God know the true servants of Christ and the ones who claim to be? The Bible is full of warnings against believing false prophets. They didn't learn that Bush/Cheney said exactly what they wanted to hear and then did nothing of what they promised. You better believe this man will do the same thing.

Honestly, if Rudy is voted president, I'm going to see about becoming a citizen o

of another country because this country is going to be in even more trouble and it will be not unlike the Fall of the Roman Empire.

Just remember, there were 35 successful prosecutions against Rudy when he was major where he tried to suppress First Amendment rights over and over again. One included people handing out pamphlets for a candidate running for president on a public street.

I have much more on him. I think it may be time to list the inconsistencies in his public policy throughout his political career. Will start working on that.

I still wish Bloomberg would consider running for President. He's done a much better job than Rudy ever did for NYC. Not to mention, he's a Mets fan, instead of a Yankees fan. That's very important to me! ;)

Thanks for your tremendous insight as always.
