I would like to propose sweeping changes to the presidential election system.  I think every state should have it's primary on the same day. Get it over with quickly,  like pulling off a band aid.  Oh, and while I'm at it, let's have public funding for campaigns. Nobody has to fund aise, and nobody is beholden to special interests.  Candidates would get a set amount of money from public coffers to spend any way they see fit, but they run out of money, tough noogies! I also want to go back in time and get a pony for my sixth birthday. That's about as likekly to happen as my proposal. Still it woudl be nice.

I agree with you on this issue. If we don't allow people access to the same amount of money, then common people cannot ever hope to run for president or other offices. If Congress didn't have to focus on fundraiser all the time, they could concentrate on the issues of the American people (I heard they work 2 days and fundraise 3 days?)

While we're at it, take away the electoral college and let popular vote elect our president. I hate that electoral stuff. It's like the tax code. You have to have either a law degree or a genius IQ to understand it. At least I do. :-)

It is not hard to understand the process. Most states are winner take all states during the general election and the electorial college is = to the number of seats of congress that state has. If you have a one day primary election then you really do not get to know the canidates that are running. They can not campaign and take to people. Else you would never see them in states that have low delegates count and only see them in the big states.

Good reform proposals....sounds like socialized campaigning to me.

Oh, how could I forget. If you really care to change these things, direct us to resources to make the change. Don't have such a defeatist attitude...what kind of democratic citizen are you? You, as a prominent news station's official blogger, have the power to make calls to action. So while it might not be very likely with PRESENT attitudes, there are avenues for change.
Instead, lets call our representatives and tell them we want public campaign funds to get our leaders' hands out of lobbyists' pockets. We can make a change.

Find an activist group and devote just a little time to it each day or week. It'll make you feel better about your role as a citizen, and it's a great way to find people who care about what you care about.

If you can't find one, get your friends to make one. Get informed about what changes need to made, and make a website, get on campusactivism.org, call your representatives, hold teach-ins, campaign for a definite goal.

You can be a leader, and push for the change you want to see.

These proposals are a great start.

Get informed about the problems around how elections work. Start with www.fairvote.org, and www.commongoodbank.org, for an avenue to a real democracy.

Let's call our elected officials, send them letters, and e-mails. Get your friends to do the same. I sure will.

I thought this proposal would have a lot of satire in it. Such as the one written way back when in ireland.

Yeah, no swift-esque writing here. I was also somewhat disappointed, bit of a misnomer for a title.
