We talk about ending racism and promoting equality and yet....

At the company where I work we have a diversity policy. We even have to attend diversity meetings and have diversity teams. The Idea is to promote acceptance of all colors, creads, ages, lifestyles and such. To learn and understand the differences, the accept the differences as a personal right and to learn to work to gether as one.

Does it work? On paper yes, in life no. Why? I guess that depends on which side of the current issue you are on.

We have the Quannel X's and Jessie Jackson's fighting for any precetion of wrong against blacks, but who do we have for the gays and whites and what ever other "group" that may percieve that they have been wronged?

Let me give you an exampl. We have a person in out office who is responsible for creating and upkeeping a monthly calender. It shows the department holidays as well as estabalished holidays and all those stupid little holidyas that give you a reason to laugh. She has went out of her way to make this eye appealing and to try and represent every consivable race, creed, color holiday with out trying to offend anyone. We some of them potientially offencive to someone else? Yes but we must all get along. Now comes Redneck day. So she list a few of Jeff Foxworthy's jokes (actually in small print). Now this can not be allowed as "not everyone finds this funny".

Come on folks. You have looked at Christian, Cathilic, Buddist, Islamic, Hindiu, Musslim, Wiccian, Driud, Black, Gay...and kept on going but get offended(the post was actually removed with the note and placed in her mail box) by a few Redneck jokes.

It's kind like the TV remote. If you don't like the channel you change it. If you don't like the post, look at a different one.

Come on folks! We are suppose to be a melting pot. Start melting! stop looking at colors. We are all shades of brown anyway!

Stop letting people like Quanel seperate us and learn to live together. The past is the past and should stay there. Move on and look to the future!

Not so sure it is about color!

Maybe it is about culture?
Maybe it is about a "defensive mechanism"?

It appears that when any thing occurs now to a person, they "look for a defense"!
You can look at any situation from many angles.

Maybe people need to quit defending their actions, & "consider" if they are wrong?
You can't control what others do, only your own actions?
Your opinion to try & look at incidences in a humorous light is good--

Tolerance is a touchy issue. How do we all get along and maintain our own beliefs. What is it about me which offends you? I like what Jesus said and more, I believe it and try to live it. Love God; Love Your Neighbor; Love Your Enemy. I know that the mention of Jesus may offend some. I am sorry though accept that I will be persecuted for such belief.

We are living in a strange environment HEREAMI, getting hard to "pursue our right to happiness" with all the different cultures!
Funny how most people all profess to love Jesus, but don't want to talk about it!
You appear to be a good person, keep the faith!

I have always said that segregation is not that bad--
Better to live around your kind of folks & be happy, than live next to someone you don't relate to & be miserable!

Diversity training is often a companies attempt to avoid a law suit. The sad fact is that a great many people wake up every day waiting to be offended. That coupled with our past failures as a nation to treat all of our citizens the same under the law is why you don’t have organizations that exist to promote ‘white’ culture. But what is white culture? An Italian American has a different culture than an Irish American or a German American. Whenever I hear the term Civil Rights leader I think of a person who wants to blame all of their particular groups problems on someone else solely on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, ect.

The sad fact is that some people will always hate another group because they are different than they are. Skin color to me is the most inconsequential aspect of a person. Why? Simply put a person has absolutely no choice on their skin color. They do have a choice on how they live their life and how the treat others. If some one like Quenel 10 wants to run around blaming white America for all of Black America’s problems and people want to by into it, so be it. In America we have the right to be stupid. You will never convince someone who believes that nonsense by talking to them. Just treat people they way you would treat your self and maybe with a little luck they will realize that people in fact are just people and their skin color will not necessarily predetermine whether or not they are good or bad. In the mean time, just sit back and laugh at the stupidity of our fellow man. And when you find yourself in some ridicu

Some people become afraid of others because they are different, whether it be culture, religion, color, looks, etc. I believe in mixing of many cultures as each and everyone can learn something new and probably enjoy it. Even if they act like they don't at first. Its because they will be getting out of their comfort zone. As far as saying jokes in one form or another, people need to be sensitive to others. I for one do not get offended easy unless its done out of hatred then I speak up. Because of so many stereotypes, people automatically take on an attitude towards certain people of different races which creates problems. As far as I'm concerned for the people of today, they should not be paying for what happened in the past but should learn from it and become a better person. We all need to forgive and forget and love one another. But I know that is hard because there are just some people who hate themselves and so they can not love another person.

pl_guy,
Very good way to look at a difficult situation, & I find it very true.
Cultural differences are more important than color.
For someone to suggest that a criminal should not be dealt with breaking in a home is predjudicial.

Diversity "Policy", is just another way for your company insured to equality, just like health benefits insurance. Keeps or tries to keep everyone on the same track. It may not be a color issue per say, but the "melting pot" has never existed. Racism is a form of ignorance, and that is what needs to be addressed. Not only are there races "ignorant" to other races, but ignorant to their own, but try very hard to not show what they really are. Being proud and having class is hard for some and there are those who like to be hated. The melting pot needs to consist of ignorance, hatred, anger, so many other things that make up what is so wrong these days. Melt it and mix it into one color that is non-existant, and put a cover on it so it never resurfices.

Soon to be 51 year old RN who works for BCBS of TX as a Health Care Advisor. I wake up every M-F morning to Fox News and hate watching the other channels on the week ends, as "my guys" aren't there. I was born and raised in St Louis, MO and moved here from SE MO after I met the love of my life on mySpace (a Fox product). I hate Houston traffic but I love the town and the people.
