Life with Chancey

I Thought I would write this

while I am basically still laying

around my sisters house recovering to answer some questions I am always getting about Chancey.

Now we are very close and have a very strong bond with her. We did intend this from the beginning. But with an exotic cat this must be maintained.

But to answer one question, yes she does live in the house with us.

She sleeps in bed with us and she goes out quite abit with us. She hates being left alone.

We created the bond and have kept it thru time and effort. She is always with one of us.

Chancey bonds with us thru subordinate grooming. She does like jumping in the hot tub with us.

But from her cubhood days we have taken on the role of a parent. We bathed her with us. We comforted her when she was scared of something. We each took turns nursing her with the bottle. And so on. Those who own exotic cats forget this and this is why most of the time the exotic cat will or could turn on them.

Chancey has a real playful attitude. She is very affectionate and she is also very protective of us.

We have no fear of her, though we respect her as a wild animal. Though she has never seen the wild and never will.

But as for the bed Chancey sleeps in between the two of us. Though when we want privacy she will sit outside the door and chirp like crazy until we let her back in.

And believe me, her chirps are loud.....

Chancey has 14 acres to romp around in. She has her own crows nest on top of both houses. Her own waiding pool, large bolders and a playtree she can climb and play around on.

Though what we like about her as an exotic cat she keeps the same hours we do. Cheetahs are not nocturnal, they are day hunters. Though chancey has no need to hunt. But she has caught rabbits and coons that have stupidly squeezed through the gates. But other than that she gets deer meat, pig, Thompson Gazelles, and her favorite snack Meow Mix.

Chancey also likes to chew on most anything. I even lost a Nikon Camera to her chewing habit.

But that was my fault for leaving it out. Just like the Pizza,Cereal

and so on.

But even with all the havoc she has caused in the past. We both adore her and would find life dull without her.

Trish and I find ourselves very lucky to have found Chancey.

Chancey also loves chew toys. Especially the noisy ones. She has many many soccer balls and giant rawhide chew bones. They dont last long,so we usually end up buying at least 30 at a time.

She also thinks she is a lap cat.

When we watch tv, Chancey has to be in the recliner with me or on the couch with Trish. Otherwise she gets in our face and chirps until she gets her way.

Though once that happens she purrs as usual for a bit, which is quite loud. Which causes one of us to turn up the tv.

She loves riding in the jeep. And the few times we have taken her to the beach she has caused quite a stir. Though she is not afraid of water and she rather likes it. Especially on a hot day in Sweetwater.

Now on the CCF visits she has been doing real well with that. The kids all seem to love her. And along the way Trish and Chancey have met alot of new friends,including the Missippi police department. Trish thinks Chancey has had way over a thousand photographs taken of her.

Though the fun part was the expressions on peoples faces as they drive by and see a live cheetah riding shotgun.

Also in Louisiana Trish and Chancey got to hang out with a bike gang Called The LA Roadshakers. They were at a rest stop with AP,when the bikegang  pulled up and were quite taken how tame she was, and playful.

But as you can guess, Wherever Chancey goes she attracts attention and wins new friends constantly.

Many of these stories will apear in her new book."Chancey, The Life and Struggles of a Domesticated Cheetah" Which will be in all Barns and Nobles early Feb.2009.

I do hope everyone is enjoying these stories about her.

Chancey is our pride and joy and like a child we like bragging about her. Even the sillystuff.

Though before I go I thought I would leave this interesting story here.

This happened in Aspen Colorado about two years ago.

Trish had gone to the store and had taken Chancey with her.After she had left an idiot ahead of her slammed on his brakes and caused Trish to hit the back of his truck. There wasnt much damage but the guy burst out of his car and ran to the side of the jeep and began yelling at Trish like a maniac. Chancey was in the back and it apeared he didnt see her at first. When Trish let the window down his cursing got worse and he started pointing his finger in her face when Trish told me it was at that point Chancey went into action. It happened all so quickly, but before Trish knew it,Chancey was lunging toward the window. Claws and all. It was fortunate for this fool the window was not low enough for her to get out. But she was hissing and spitting and doing her damndest to get at the attacker. He did try to sue us, but once the judge heard the story it was dropped. Chancey is known through out Aspen and it was decided she was only protecting her master....

Bet he won't do that again.

Anyway, got to go now. The Israeli Police have some perps. They want Oriete and myself to do the line up thing.

Trish is here with me and everything is going back to normal somewhat.

WHAT A SMILE!!

Shalom my fox blogger friends.

I have something I wanted to share with everyone. This is a very rare wooden airplane prop. My dad left it to me and I restored it somewhat. But it is off of a 1918 Curtis Kirkham 18T Wasp.

It was in production for only one year.

1918-1919. Unfortunatly my dad never did give me any history on it. Or how he got it. This was hung in our living room for years. But it was he that gave me my love of aircrafts and flying.

I too am a pilot and have his Twin engine Bonanza as well. But I thought I would share this with the other aviation buffs out there.

GET WIERD,STAY WILD......

This is my first video review.

I came across this video thru a

friend. And I must admit this is

a really good and interesting film.

It is an older movie 1996, but well worth watching.

The thing that interested me at first was it is a dramatisation of the documentary that I caught awile back on the history channel.

The script was taken from the actual Journals of Chief Engineer, Lt Col. John Henry

Patterson. 1898. He is also the one responsible for bringing them down.

I don't want to spoil it too much, but I must say I give this movie 4 stars. The lions themselves were quite bizzarre. They were two males, no hairy mane as most males have. They had no pride. And the most unusual is that the two males hung out and hunted together. and obviously had no fear of man.

This is rated R for the gore and violence.

It has alot of suspense and action.

It is also very accurate per the journal as well.

But over all an excellent film.

I would recomend this film to anyone.

Now I do have some photos to share with everyone of the real lions.

They are kept in the Chicago Illinoies Field Museum

The story it's self is amazing and Bizarre at the same time.

And there is still no explanation for it...

Danz is out!! The special editions that is.

Unfortunatley the regular has been pushed back to October....All these delays are driving me crazy.

The special editions have been shipped to the Aspen House. Though I won't be back in the states till late September of this year. I am curently in The Golan Hieghts visiting relatives.

But to those who wanted a special edition I will ship them out as soon as I am able. Let me know if you wish them to be signed or not....

Anyway, an update on Chancey. Thier appearance in Houston has been postponed till September. Trish has fallen ill with a really bad case of Nuemonia...But it will be on a Saturday, and at the Woodland Pavillion.

We do hope everyone will come out for it. I of course wont be able to make it. But none the less I hope everyone will come out. We also will be showing some home movies of Chancey as well.

Anyway, I wish everyone of my Fox Blogger friends the best. And hope to see alot of you during my book signing. Which will be in October. It will be the same place Barns and Noble by the Galleria and the Starbucks on post oaks. That is if they dont close it first...LOL....

I have been a way for a while but I just heard about Chanceys little mishap. And I thought I would share it with you all.

Now when Trish called and said she was ready to choke the you know what out of Chancey. I at first thought she raised hell at the tv studio in Louisiana.

For example she is very playful and sometimes when she wants to play, like at the CCF office she can creat havoc running around and so on. But I found out thru Trishes story that it was she and the AP people who were to blame...

I dont know what they were thinking when they put all thier leftovers from red lobster in the back of our jeep. But they learned a lesson. I even told Trish you should have known better. But they thought Cheetahs dont like people food. But they forgot about the stories we told them of chancey devouring a pizza, cereal, meow mix and so on.

So after lunch they went to a two o clock  filming for the next days morning show. All went inside to check on the arrangements.

While leaving Chancey out in the jeep with all that food. When they returned they found all of it shredded to pieces, all the lobster leftovers and new potatoes gobled up and the plastic foodboxes and salad strewn all over the back seat with Chancey of course sleeping  with food and styrafoam  all over her. Now of course everyone was ticked but she is an animal and she is domesticated. I even reminded Trish that we cant even leave cokes sitting on the table, or chancey will get it. She likes coke for some wierd reason. And we found out she also likes potatoes as well.

But this is not the end here....It gets worse.

Now after a quick clean up they of course walked her in to meet everyone. And what I was told it all went well. She was very calm and was making friends with a certain female reporter who happened to do the morning show for the station.  Now  about ten minutes into the shoot , Sandy the morning show host  was sitting on the floor playing with chancey and interviewing Trish at the same time. Then without warning Chancey yaked all over her. Trish said it was so embarrasing that she wanted to go and hide in the darkest hole she could find. Sandy herself even lost her lunch after that. But what I was told, it took a while to get cleaned up from the incident, but afterwards the filming resumed.

and everything went find after that.

But I did have to tell Trish, after all that fussing on the phone. Who's fault is it really?

The next time I am sure all of you will know better , Right?

Afterward we had a good laugh, and another story to put in Chanceys book...............

For Chancey life is a blast!!!

Chanceys Houston Appearance!!!

The Place and month have been confirmed....

We will be appearing at the woodland pavillions

on a saturday. More than likely the last day of saturday of july. This will be her last stop before going under the knife. So everyone is encouraged to come out, bring your cameras.

If you ever wanted to pet a live cheetah? Well here is your chance. She is very people friendly and extremely playful, and sometimes willfull.

As you can tell by my last blog. The show will start with a thirty minute film, which was done by the combined efforts of Dr. Laurie Marker and Animal Planet. Chancey is in this film as well Dr. Marker, Trish and Chewbaka. Afterwards, her royal cuteness, as PBMom called her will be brought out to meet the crowd.

There will be plenty of time for photo ops and or getting up real close and personal with her for photos and greetings. Trish and I also are giving a way 15 Chancey plush toys. Three feet tall.

and Twenty t-shirts. The shirts from the book Danz. Which have been supplied from my publisher. Each person that comes in will be given a ticket. One end you will keep, the other goes into a bucket for the drawing.

Now donations will be asked for at the end by the CCF. But dont feel guilty or obligated to give if you cannot. We all understand that. The economy regardless what they say STINKS....

The show is free of charge and I would hope everyone would come out and see her. I would also love to meet alot of the Houston Bloggers

face to face....

Maybe even Fox can come out and do some coverage. There will also be an add in the Houston Chronicle entertainment section as well. The actual date will be confirmed soon.

When I get it, I will post it...

Just got a story back from Trish in Florida I just had to share. First she relayed the story to me, later I was sent the video which I will post on myspace later. Now this happened at a florida Middle school. And when I first heard it, I was laughing the whole time over the phone. The video that was sent later had me rolling on the floor. So sit back and have a listen.

First I want to show a photo of Chancey and our jeep so you can put this picture in your head.

this is the type of jeep we have.

I got a call a few nights ago and was told by Trish that she was ready to choke the cheetah BLEEP out of Chancey...Though it she was kidding, here is why.

Trish, Chancey and AP were pulling up to a Miami

Florida middle school for a early morning show. As usual AP got out first to do some filming, when Trish went to put the leash on Chancey, Chancey then got other ideas. Before Trish could get the leash on Chancey bolted for the back of the jeep. Trish, a bit ticked shut the door and went to the back of the jeep. As soon as she opened the top window Chancey bolted back to the front of the jeep and began chirping at her. Now for those of you who dont know Cheetahs can make a bird like chirping sound.

This serves multiple purposes. One type is used for when they are searching for thier cubs, and or family, which is what chancey does when we are abscent from the house. The other type chirp is used when they are frightened which is usually followed by several hisses, like that of a domestic house cat.

The other is used when they are angry. Now Chancey has never harmed us or anybody, but she does have a temper. Especially when she wants to do her own thing. Anyway, Trish shut the back and went back up front. Chancey again bolted to the back and went about chirping again.

Each time Trish had to shut the door so she wouldnt run out. Now this got even more humorous, though not to Trish. Trish would just move closer to the back when Chancey would bolt the opossite direction inside the jeep.

This action continued for about twenty minutes. Luckily the camera man caught the whole thing on tape. So you can imagine the hillarious scene of my wife outside the jeep running back and forth with Chancey doing the same, but on the inside.After a while of running back and forth along the outside of the jeep. Trish finally gave up, and what I saw on the video she was quite worn.

Chancey though had settled down in the back and was, from what I saw going to take a nap. So after a few sharp words the show had to be postponed until after lunch. Trish locked Chancey in the jeep and went to starbucks with AP. They of course thought this whole thing was hilarious. Trish didnt at the time and let a few have from what she told me. Though later she did apologize. And after a good nap, Chancey finally cooperated and the show went off fine after that.

I did watch this video over and over, and it is still hilarious every time I watch it. Trish was almost at a point of spinning around in place it had gotten so bad....I do promise, when I have time to post it on myspace so everyone can have a good, goood laugh.....

I wish I had been there....

I am hoping everyone can be honest with me. This is of course going out to seven different foxblogger community. Though I must admit the Aspen group seems to enjoy them more than most, but then again you guys and gals know Chancey. Anyway, Dont worry about my feelings, I can handle rejection if it comes. I got fifty rejection letters on Danz. So I can handle it....

So let me know what everyone thinks.

and the Mark II. The one hanging I think is a Mark II.

Greetings fox bloggers and staff. This is a heads up on a party we are throughing. First to meet everyone, and to celebrate Chancey's Pregnancy.

which our vet who preformed the first OP. Said there shouldnt be any problems with the reversal. And yes Chancey will be here for those who would like to meet her. We will supply all food and drink. I do hope the Fox staff will attend too. Please make sure this is passed around the office, and to all bloggers who wish to come.

The party will be in late august or early October this year. I will announce the date later on. Though it will be on a Saturday.

Here is some cool facts I found about Saber Tooth tigers everyone might find interesting......

The "sabre-toothed tiger," Smilodon, is the California State Fossil and the second most common fossil mammal found in the La Brea tar pits. The name "sabre-toothed tiger" is misleading, for these animals are not closely related to tigers. Juveniles to adults are represented in the large Berkeley collections. The first Chairman of the University of California Department of Paleontology, Professor John C. Merriam, and his student Chester Stock, monographed the morphology of this great carnivore in 1932. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Smilodon bones have been found at La Brea, permitting remarkably detailed reconstructions of how Smilodon lived. For example, Smilodon was about a foot shorter than living lions but was nearly twice as heavy, and unlike cheetahs and lions -- which have long tails that help provide balance when the animals run -- Smilodon had a bobtail. These suggest that Smilodon did not chase down prey animals over long distances, as lions, leopards, and cheetahs do. Instead, it probably charged from ambush, waiting for its prey to come close before attacking. 

Smilodon was a relatively recent sabretooth, from the Late Pleistocene; it finally went extinct about 10,000 years ago. Fossils have been found all over North America and Europe. Smilodon fossils from the La Brea tar pits include bones that show evidence of serious crushing or fracture injuries, or crippling arthritis and other degenerative diseases, that would have been debilitating for the wounded animals. Yet many of these bones show extensive healing and regrowth, indicating that even crippled animals survived for some time after their injuries. How did they survive? It seems most likely that they were cared for, or at least allowed to feed, by other sabre-toothed cats -- solitary hunters with crippling injuries would not be expected to live long enough for the bones to heal. Smilodon appears to have lived in packs and had a social structure, like modern lions but unlike tigers and all other living cats, which are solitary hunters. Occasional finds of sabretooth-sized holes in Smilodon bones suggest that the social life of Smilodon was not always peaceful; the cats may have fought over food or mates, as lions do today. Such fights were probably accompanied by loud roaring -- from the structure of the hyoid bones in the throat of Smilodon, we know it could roar. 

Although the evolutionary occurrence of saber-teeth is an interesting phenomenon, it is not entirely unique to Smilodon. During the last 60 million years or so, at least four different orders of mammals developed saber-teeth independently of each other on three separate continents. In spite of their different lineages they share some common characteristics. Most were built for ambushing rather than chasing down their prey. To accommodate their large teeth, most saber-toothed animals could open their mouths in a gape of 90-degrees or more. This is impressive compared to the 70-degree gape of modern cats.

The ambush-style of hunting, enlarged canines, and wider gape suggests that Smilodon hunted large prey animals with thick hides. Since the saber-teeth of Smilodon would have shattered upon impact with bone, the canines were probably used to pierce the throat or soft underbelly of its prey. Possible prey animals for the Smilodon include Mammoths, Mastodons, American versions of the Camel and Horse, Bison, and Giant Ground sloths. Smilodon probably became extinct when the large animals it hunted died out.

The new season opens up with Starbucks return from oblivion.

Now she seems to be mad, and or driven about the direction they are going. Everyone thinks she is a cylon. Col. Tye is a cylon........

go figure........the poster child of cylon hatred.

And speaking of cylons, 6 apears to have gone power mad. Though I dont know why she had all her cylon companions wasted. All they need to do is redownload into a new body and it all begins again.

oh yes, cant forget about Doc Baltar who seems to be a guru now. kind of hairi Chishna style. with photo in the middle of flowers and blinking lights....

Though with the President sharing the same dream with 6, I would guess she might be the fifth cylon.

though it would be a shocker if it were on of the Adoma's. That would be a wierd twist....

If you like battlestar, what are your opinions on the last season so far.

As far as I think, it is getting crazy, and I am willing to bet its gonna get crazier....Hah! my kind of show.
