Citizen Kane

Sparticus (and EVERY OTHER Film by Stanley Kubrick)

The Godfather

Lawrence of Arabia

Cassablanca

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

The Wizzard of Oz. Once you realize that the "Wizzard" is actually supposed to be William Jennings Bryant, each of the characters is the embodiment of a facet of American society (e.g. The Tin man is the Steel Industry, the Scarecrow farmers who don't seem to think much, the cowardly lion is a government that talks a mean game but ultimately is afraid to take action) it's a lot more fun. The whole thing is saying how "The Gold standard" was ultimately a road filled with false promises and how Dorothy's ultimate salvation lay in the "silver slippers" (they were silver in the book) which represented a better economy.

ANYTHING by Akira Kurosawa. I love samurai flicks and the man is a Genius.

MOST Mel Brooks films. "The Inquisition...what a show!"

no blues brothers. Like the rolling stone most of my readers seem to be teens or in early 20's
or 30's. Though this is the poll we got back.
and these are the ones they seem to like a ultimate classics....
personally I would have added swing blade
history of the world part one and two.
and of course clock work orange......
