ARE YOU READY IF EVACUATION BECOMES NECESSARY

Tropical Storm Dolly was roaring toward the Gulf of Mexico Sunday night.

If the storm gains hurricane status and turns toward Southeast Texas, are you to get out if necessary?

NO KIDDING MIK.

I JUST HATE ALL THE HYPE THE MEDIA PUTS INTO IT. THEY ACT LIKE WE JUST STARTED HAVING HURRICANES OR SOMETHING. EACH ONE, NO MATTER HOW FAR OUT IN THE OCEAN IT IS, THEY'RE CALLING IT THE "BIG ONE" BEFORE IT EVEN REALLY FORMS AND ACT LIKE IT'S WIDESPREAD PANIC.

I'M TIRED OF IT!

EVEN ON MY DRIVE INTO WORK THIS AM ON I-10...I SEE ON THE TRAFFIC MESSAGE BOARDS "IT'S HURRICANE SEASON - MAKE SURE YOUR GAS TANK IS FULL". I WAS LIKE ARE YOU SERIOUS? HOW ABOUT TELLING ME HOW LONG IT'S GOING TO TAKE ME TO GET TO THE FREAKIN BELTWAY? THAT'S INFO I CAN REALLY USE.

SO I HAVE TO AGREE...NO EVACUATION FOR ME EITHER.

I'm getting a flat bottom boat with a trolling motor and be done with it. If I have to get out it will be when it is deep enough to float my boat.

Mlk1of3,

I know I can always count on your being crystal clear about what you think. The Hurricane Rita evacuation was a disaster in itself. It'll be interesting to see how a mass evacuation goes when we need to do that again. The state, as you know, implemented a new evacuation system. I don't think it'll make things any better.

Jeeterbug,
I think the message was premature, since traffic info is what we need now, not a reminder about potentiallly bad weather.

Murphy,
Please come by and rescue us bloggers if we need help. On a serious note, the people who own flat bottom boats end up being the people who can get around once the storm has passed, and often, they are people who can help others who were stranded by high water.

chassan...LOL.

Jeeterbug..I see the same thing every day when I drive into work. Storm forming, keep gas tanks full. Sure. As if the oil companies need MORE money!! .

I'd stay and protect the homestead. By the way Chassan...that is a beautiful picture.

Mlk1of3,
Continue with your blunt talk and views.

I usually drive around half-empty, storm or no storm.

PBMom,
You're in what I would consider a safe zone, except for possible heavy rains, if a major hurricane struck Galveston and moved inland.

Foehammer,
I wish we had some big waves like that on Galveston, not just when a storm comes.

Are you in what would be a safe area, if we had a major hit through Galveston that moved inland?

I already miss Stormchaser. I bet you he wishes he would be able to get in the car and drive right down there.

Biggest danger for our home personally is if something happens with Lake Conroe and they release water. That is what happened the last time the area flooded. Our neighborhood was spared, but they were about to evacuate us when the rain stopped. But I walked out my door and a short hop around the corner and watched in horror as the water came up to halfway up my neighbors' homes.
