America, the land of the free.. or is it? I dont really think so. When we have to vote on what legal adults want to do in the privacy of their own lives. I mean Gay Marriage who gives heterosexual people the right to judge whether their gay neighbor can marry someone of the same sex. That is just plain absurd. Do we vote on whether it is right to let straight people decide to marry. No!

Someone hit the nail right on the head when they said it is the church and its belief that makes gay relationships wrong. I agree i mean i  am a christian.. i believe in God and his word.. but in that same sense i am also a gay female. A choice, no. I cant help who i love and i cant help what i feel. This is what i am attracted to as naturally as a straight man is to a woman and vice versa.

There has been many speculation on where homosexuality comes from. Whether it be a choice or a defect by  birth. I see it as this. I do not choose to live a lifestyle that is rediculed, hated, cursed, and rebuked. What I do choose is to act on this lifestyle by engaging in a relationship with a woman. I do not CHOOSE to have the feelings.

I dont know if that explains it but thats how it is...  did anyone think to ask someone living the hated life of a gay person how hard we have to go through life. How depressing it is to be considered not normal. Then to have our rights undergo scrutiny and then voted not equal. Nobody cares about the next person if it does not concern them.

I am a gay female but I would not care if the law decided it was legal to marry or not. I do not want to marry anyone for that matter but i do not vote against those who do want to marry. How does it affect our state. or government, or economy if our gay neighbors want to marry each other. It doesnt... We tend to focus on issues that have no bearing to a better America. Leave irrelavant issues as Gay Marriage alone and lets focus on how we can get our economy back into production.

very well said. it is innate desires that drive intimacy between two people, not choice.

That is because they are wrong, the feelings are of free will. God gave us free will to make choices. And is a choice one makes. Romans 1

I was in agreement with this post until the following statement:

"I cant help who i love and i cant help what i feel."

With all due respect, that statement is a cop-out. Some battered and abused women (by the hands of husband/boyfriend, etc) use this same excuse to stay with their abuser. I'm sorry, but not only do you have a choice in who you love and what you feel, but you also have the power to determine the extent of how far that goes from individual to individual. God provides an escape from every temptation and refuge from the storms in your life. I agree with your position on the marriage issue, but not that one statement.

I agree with the statement that sexuality is born.

Can any of you tell me exactly WHEN you sat down and said...hmmm. I can like boys or I can like girls, which should it be? I know I can't.

Most of the gays I know knew themselves right away that they were different. One said that he was the one chasing the boys who was chasing the girls in kindergarten. He said everyone thought he was just a real slow runner..but he was really chasing the boys.

I can't agree with that one statement, either. That is probably the same statement that pediphiles use. I know that you are talking about adults and marriage, but I think people are afraid that if we allow gay marriage, we are giving up on a "moral" issue, so what will be the next "moral" issue that we turn our backs on? The abortion issue has been argued by both sides for many years, with one side being the "moral" side. I don't think gay marriage is going to get an end to its debate anytime soon either, whether legal or not. Hetero couples still have to be licensed to marry. Years ago, we also had to take a blood test, by a doctor, before we could even apply for the license. Many churches require premarital counseling before the pastor will perform the ceremony. We're not getting a free pass, but we do have the right to try to marry.

Personally, I don't care about gay marriage. Whether a gay person introduces his or her significant other to me as their "partner" (as they do now) or as their wife/husband, it's all the same to me - they are a committed couple. I'd have to say that about the only time I even think about gay marriage is when I see a movie or hear a story about a gay partner being completely shut out by the dying/dead partner's family instead of honoring his/her wishes. That irritates me.

American morality is wrapped up in our history and our culture. You don't have to understand it and you don't have to like it but you must abide by it. That's just the way it is.

Sorry kid! There is no way I could ever agree with your statement or your lifestyle choice. You were given free will so that you could make your own choices based upon a firm foundation which is your total faith and belief in God and your Savior, Jesus Christ!

If you are a Christian, as you profess to be, what do you do with the books in the Bible, such as Romans, that absolutely do not agree with you and state in no uncertain terms that this lifestyle is an abomination before God! Have you ever really read it completely, slowly and prayerfully. Paul was very, very direct and strong on this issue to the Church's in his letter about this subject, which is sin and not just sin, but sin which is abomination.

I firmly believe that this is why most people want God out of our schools, out of the Pledge and off our money! Without a reminder of God in our everyday lives, a vast majority of people will choose some of the most abominable things to do and the more they do them, the farther away from God they get until they can't find their way back to Him at all!

I wouldn't say all this if I didn't care deeply about you and your walk with God and your Savior! If you choose to wilfully rebel against God do you really believe that this is somehow okay with Him!

speaking of the moral issue. if gays getting married is so morally wrong, then why aren't the same thumpers against that protesting reality tv and the imorality of that and shows like the bachelor/bachelorette????

i mean...honestly, how is going on a national tv show, slutting around with all 20 some "contestants" and at the end of the 2-3 months end up being able to marry one of them after he/she's slept w/the entire fleet and that's accepted? it's ok?!?!??

hmm, you never hear anything about that, and quite honestly, what type of message is THAT sending????

i guess that's still more widely, morally accepted than having 2 people who happen to be the same sex, who have been in a committed relationship for YEARS at a time.

if someone wants to BLEEP around on a reality tv show and marry who they claim is the love of their life after the series' run, so be it. however, i have a lot more respect for myself than to be exploiting myself like that.

honestly, what is america so afraid of?

I am a lover of the written word. I enjoy expressing myself with the beauty of imagination. I am a 23, african american female whose dream is to change our society. It is not racial discrimination that I intend to change.. but the prejudice that society has toward the generation X and the mistakes we make. We need change..
