Ok I have nevr started a blog before but after months of waking up every morning and and watching fox news every day I figured this would be the best way to get my voice heard. What the hell is up with Houstons unemployment?! I cant get a job for the life of me, I am a culinary school graduate with 8 years of kitchen and bar work under my belt and yet i cant get a job to save my life. I browse craigslist and greensheet all day and send emails and call people fax my resemue all over but i never get a response and this kills me cause my past and all my previuse jobs have been solid and I have left on good terms with everyone i have worked with. I have been working offshore for the past two years on huge ocean vessels as a chef at eight weeks at a time and i just cant bring myself to do that kind of work any more. Plus I am getting married soon and I hate being away from my wife. Now this isnt my only FRUSTRATION with Houston. Now about a month ago i was walking home from my bowling league. I dont exactly live in a nice part of clear lake so I live in a post Katrina refugee camp. But back to the topic I'm walking home at 10pm and I am passing two other men who are in the street rather than on the side walk. As i pass i say "it's hot freakin hot out here." and out of no where one of the men hit me in the left side of my jaw at that time the other hit me on the right side. So i fell to the ground being the 5'8" 140 pound white kid I am and they proceeded to kick the living hell out of my face and ribs. Me being the dumbass that i am had cashed my tax stimulouse check that afternoon to pay rent and had not bought a money oder yet so I had $800 on me. needless to say they took me for everything. They split my upper lip completley in half three inches up my face busted out four teeth, broke two ribs and permantley disfurgured me. The police were able to catch on of them Lee Mccall Fromw New Orleans but the other still reamins at large. This incident screwed me to pay rent i had to go get a loan based on my tv which only got my $600, then i had to falsly get a payday loan. All of this has sent me into a downward spiral of dept and hopless ness. All because two guys decided to rob somone smaller than them. Some one out there please help me.

This morning, I was the recipient of a Nigerian scam letter in my e-mail. It was poorly written and full of misspelled words. Of course I will not respond to it, but does anyone know how these people get one's e-mail address? Also, is there some type of legal entity that I can forward this letter to? It unnerves me to have received something like this. Several months ago, I got one, deleted it, and that was the end of it. I want to DO something to prevent this from happening again.

U.S. government: We know
parenting better than you (abridged)
Posted: July 24, 2008 12:00 am Eastern
By Chelsea Schilling (WorldNetDaily)
HR 2343 is sponsored by Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., and cosponsored by 55 Democrats and 11 Republicans. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that implementing the Education Begins at Home Act would cost taxpayers $190 million for state home visiting, plus "such sums as may be necessary" for in-hospital parent education.
While the program may not be mandatory for low-income and military families, there is no wording in the Education Begins at Home Act requiring parental permission for treatment or ongoing care once the family is enrolled – a point that leads some to ask where parental rights end and the government takes over. Also, critics ask how agents of the government plan to acquire private medical and financial records to offer the home visiting program.
"There's no consent mentioned in the bill for any kind of screening – medical, health or developmental," Dr. Effrem said. "There are privacy concerns because when home visitors come into the home they assess everything about the family: Their financial situation, social situation, parenting practices, everything. All of that is put into a database."
"How free is someone who has been tagged as needing this program in the case of home visiting – like a military family or a poor family?" she asked. "How free are they to refuse? Even their refusal will be documented somewhere. There are plenty of instances where families have felt they can't refuse because they would lose benefits, be accused of not being good parents or potentially have their children taken away."
"Who decides how cultural tolerance is going to be manifested?" she asked. "There's some blather in the language of the bill about having cultural awareness of the differences in parenting practices, but it seems like that never applies to Christian parents."

I visited Galveston Island again today with a friend of mine from Katy, Texas. We stopped off at a gas station to buy some gas, some water, wine coolers, a lighter, and of course the Galveston County Daily News.
I am still reading it from the front to the back! Thank you for the Associated Press story about Ron Paul's GOP convention. Had it not been for the GCDN, I would not have known about The Rally for the Republic being held at the Minneapolis' Target Center on Sept. 2, 2008. Sept. 2 is my oldest and only sister's birthday.
This story "Ron Paul's GOP convention alternative changes venue" should have also been on the Daily News E-Editon. I counted 10 stories in the Politics section of the Daily News E-Editon and none of them were about the 3rd parties! Shame on the Daily News!
I want to know where Rep. Cythnia McKinney(Green Party Presidential Candidate for 2008) is campaigning at and what she is saying.
I also want to know where Nader/Gonzalez are campaigning at and what they are saying especially since Nader has a Latino as his running mate.
I further want to know where Rep. Bob Barr (Libertarian Presidential Candidate for 2008) is campaigning at and what he is saying.
I would like to take this time to issue a challenge to both John McCain and Barrack Obama. Do you support Equal Rights for All Presidential Candidates? If you answer yes, will you promise to stand up for all Americans by supporting the inclusion of all presidential candidates and vice-presidential candidates to appear in every debate?

THE TRUTH CAN BE REALLY STRANGENo lie! Man confesses to sex assault during test to be trooper
You should always tell the truth.
But a man in Connecticut probably wishes he hadn't been so truthful during a lie detector test required for applicants seeking a job as a state trooper.
Officials say that during the test in March, Jon Van Allen, confessed to fondling a nine-year-old girl twice in 2000 because he "was curious." He was arrested and now has been sentenced to four years in jail.

Allen believed you had to be truthful to get the job, and still thought he'd get the job after confessing to the sexual assault.
I'm glad Allen was honest about his past, but his admission shows his logic is twisted.

CLOSE MAJOR DOWNTOWN HOUSTON STREET TO TRAFFIC
This is a radical idea, but why not close Main Street in Downtown Houston from the Pierce Elevated all the way north to Congress or Franklin, and restrict the road to Metro's rail, along with pedestrians and cyclists?
Such a change certainly would stir up complaints from some people that it would limit their ability to get around.
Still, creating such a multi-block plaza could be yet another way to encourage new growth downtown.

Traffic that uses Main Street could shift to adjoining streets that run north and south.

ANTI-SMOKING PLAN MAKES NO SENSEI don't get their thinking.
Billionaires Bill Gates and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg say they'll spend $500 million to stop people around the world from smoking.
How much will they spend in the U.S.? Zero, nada!
One in five Americans smoke, or about 60 million people, so why not spend some of the money in the U.S.?
The campaign will concentrate on five countries where most of the
world’s smokers live: China, India, Indonesia, Russia and Bangladesh.

The $500 million campaign will urge governments to sharply raise tobacco taxes,
outlaw smoking in public places, outlaw advertising to children and
free giveaways of cigarettes, start anti-smoking advertising campaigns
and offer their citizens nicotine patches or other help quitting.
Gates and Bloomberg should spend some of the money in the U.S., especially since most of their money came from the U.S.

IS JUSTICE AT THE HOUSTON FEDERAL COURTHOUSE FAIR TO BLACKSJustice at the Houston federal courthouse can sometimes be puzzling.
Take jury selection in this case, for example.
The estate of Jimmie Lee O'Neal,
a black, sued Harris County for O'Neal's death during his 20-day stay in the county lockup.
During jury selection, the county's lawyers struck a black member from the jury panel, because she had only a high school education and was "not paying attention" and was "mumbling to herself." The defense objected, claiming the county bumped her because she was black. She was the only black who could have served on the jury.
Later that day, another jury member who is white fell asleep during the trial.
The judge then discovered that the white jury member had not finished high school. The county's lawyers did not insist that the white juror be removed from the panel, explaining that he had he had worked for the same employer for 30 years and that the "school of hard knocks" counted in his favor.

The jury later found that the county was not responsible for O'Neal's death.
The case is on appeal.
Was racial bias responsibile for the jury' s decision? I don't know.
But from my viewpoint, the jury selection process smelled.

Looters were actually returning things to the stores. Clearly they had over shot this hurricane by at LEAST 3 categories.
Good night all!!!!!!!!
