I listen to 740AM all day long.  With the return of Michael Berry on Monday I heard that he went overseas and adopted a boy.  Congradulations to Michael for becoming a father but it got me to wondering, why not adopt an American boy?

I notice that a lot of people who want to adopt a child in up going overseas to do so.  What is wrong with American children?  Or is it the system that makes it difficult, looking at these children as cash cows for the system and not wanting to give them up?  What are your thoughts?

I think it is harder to adopt here in the U.S.?? I'm really not sure-but I have often wondered the same thing. I know a few people who have adopted children from Russia-but I never really asked them why-didn't feel it was appropriate of me ya know??

I honestly believe that the system looks at these kids as cash cows and they dont want to give up the money so the kids can have a good home. They make good people jump through so many fire hoops that they get tired and wonder what is the point.
They go in to adopt a baby and the kid is five by the time they get him, stuff like that.

I think there are so many hoops you have to jump through here, and also you have the possibility if the birth mother changes her mind and wants the baby back, you have to give them back. With an overseas adoption, that is your baby, no take backs. A lot of people have tried US adoptions, have been hurt, and they decide to go overseas instead. Jeff's brother and his wife got hurt here, went to Russia and got scammed, then came back here, worked with a different agency and did a different kind of adoption and they've had Jack since he was a baby. Jeff's cousin adopted a baby of another ethnicity but here in the US. And Jeff's aunt adopted a baby here in the US (and then she wound up getting pregnant). LOL My friend Kim would love to adopt a child, but because she is single, they won't give her one. She has a great income, is very responsible. Is heterosexual. They told her to try to become a foster mother first, but they won't let her either.
