WHAT IS IT WITH ALL THE NEGATIVE BLOGS ABOUT OUR BELOVED, ALTHOUGH MISUNDERSTOOD, MONTROSE AREA???

I MEAN, SURE, THE MONTROSE HAS ITS UNSAVORY ELEMENTS; BUT SO DOES A LOT OF OTHER MAJOR CITIES IN THIS WORLD.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE ONLY JUST MOVED INTO THE AREA ARE ALREADY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE AREA AS WELL AS BEING INTIMIDATED TO COME FURTHER THAT 100 FEET OUTSIDE THEIR 'NEW DOMICILE.'

I'VE LIVED HERE SINCE 1996 AND I HAVE NEVER WITNESSED HALF-DOZEN O WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE I WALK WITH JESUS IS WHY NO THING UNSAVORY IS SEEN OR EXPERIENCED BY MY EYES OR BODY. MAYBE, IT IS BECAUSE I AM A LARGER THAN LIFE GUY WHO SEEMS TO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THE UNRULINESS THAT YOU SEEM TO HAVE WITNESSED.

TO THE COMPLAINERS AND NAY-SAYERS AGAINST THE MONTROSE AREA [WHICH SPANS MORE THAN JUST WESTHEIMER AND FAIRVIEW AREAS] I SUGGEST, BEFORE YOU MOVED INTO THE AREA DID YOU DO A HISTORY CHECK ON THE AREA; DID YOU EVEN CONSIDERED IT A THOUGHT TO DO SO?? OR WERE YOU SIMPLY MESMERIZED BY THE CHARISMA AND PROPAGANDA OF THE REALTOR? I'M ASKING BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF 'PEOPLE' THAT HAVE MOVED INTO THE AREA AND SOMEHOW ARE EITHER DISGUSTED BY WHAT THEY SEE NAD HEAR, OR SPEAK NEGATIVE ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS. I LIVE IN THE MONTROSE NEAR THE MFAH, AND I FREQUENTLY WALK THE AREA; WITH MY DAUGHTER OF THREE [3] YEARS OF AGE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, NOR HAVE I WITNESSED ANYTHING UNRULY OR UNSAVORY ?????

BUT WHAT I HAVE WITNESSED IS, THROUGH THE GENTRIFICATION OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS, EXPENSIVE HOUSING- NO, DOLL-HOUSING- IS BEING BUILT RIGHT NEXT DOOR OR ACROSS THE STREET FROM RAZED HOUSING; AND 'PEOPLE' WHO MOVE INTO THE AREA SEEM TO BE SCARED AS HECK TO WALK DOWN THE STREET :!!! I EXPERIENCED ONE WOMAN WALKING ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE 'MUSEUM TOWERS', WITH HER FAMILY, TO BELL PARK AND SAYING, "I DON'T LIKE TO COME OUT OF THE HOUSE. THESE PEOPLE SCARE ME...YOU KNOW, HOMELESS"...WTH??!!!!!...I RESPONDED TO HER, 'LADY, I'VE LIVED IN THIS AREA FOR THE PAST TEN [10] YEARS SO AM I ONE OF THOSE 'PEOPLE' YOU SPEAK ABOUT? IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD HAVE EXECUTED A THOROUGH BACKGROUND CHECK ON THE AREA BEFORE MOVING INTO IT. I'M SURE THAT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT LONG ENOUGH, YOU ARE CREATING YOUR OWN NIGHTMARE AND BEING YOUR OWN VICTIM. HERE, HERE'S MY CARD.  COME TO MY STUDIO TO SEE AND PURCHASE SOME ART THAT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY; BECAUSE FROM WHERE I AM STANDING YOU SEEM PRETTY MISERABLE.  AM I SCARING YOU- IS MY DAUGHTER SCARING YOU- BECAUSE I AM TALKING TO YOU AS A PERSON WHOM IS INSULTED BY YOUR REMARKS!? HOMELESSNESS IS A VERY REAL ISSUE, AND IT IS LARGELY DUE TO THE MISPLACED BOOBOISIE THAT YOU JUST WALKED OUT OF. IF YOU SENSE A PROBLEM THEN DO NOT BE PART OF THE PROBLEM BUT CREATE A SOLUTION.'

HER MOTHER SAID TO HER, "HE TOLD YOU...I'D LIKE A CARD"

GOD BLESS THE ELDERLY FOLKS!!!!!

I HEAR PATTY THIS MORNING SPEAKING ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION [I.S.S] HAVING PLUMBING PROBLEMS??  AT THE 'END' IT SOUNDED LIKE SHE ALMOST TRIPPED UP AND SAID, "A.S.S'" INSTEAD OF I.S.S....?????

HOLY BLEEP!!!!  THAT  WOULD HAVE BEEN FUNNY IF SHE DID ACIDENTALLY SAY "A.S.S.".  IT MAY HAVE BEEN APROPO [I SHOULD SAY 'APROPOO-POO' :PP ] TOO SINCE SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT THERE BEING A PLUMBING PROBLEM.

SO, IF IT WAS THE 'AERO SPACE STATION [A.S.S] WITH A PLUMBING PROBLEM, THEN SHOULD WE EARTHLINGS BE CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING THE BLEEP FROM 'A.S.' DUMPING DOWN ON US????

I'M JUST 'AKSIN' :PPPP

SO, IN A SCENTS, I'D THINK WITH A PLUMBING PROBLEM, THE ACRONYM A.S.S WOULD BE APROPO...OR SHOULD I SAY, 'APROPOO-POO' :PPP????

TOO FUNNY :))))

FORGIVE ME; I HAVEN'T BLOGGED IN A WHILE SO THOUGHT I'D HAVE SOME FUUUUUUN

As notified to me on ArtsHouston.Ning.Com:

Hello Dune-Micheli, our Starbucks Silent Auction started 4 years ago after one of our beloved customers lost his battle with AIDS. We have since hosted this auction to raise money for the AIDS Foundation Houston in his memory. Over the years, we have raised over $35,000. However, we could not be successful without the generosity of our local art community who has donated over the years. If you would like to donate an art piece to a great cause or help spread the word to fellow artists, we would appreciate it. Every dollar raised goes to AFH. If you need more info, contact Angela Lara @ 713-521-7278 or reply back. (3407 Montrose-Starbucks).

-----------------------------------------------
PLEASE JOIN IN THE FIGHT AND HELP RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR THIS IMPORTANT CAUSE!  DONATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 25th.  ART OF ANY MEDIUM WILL BE ACCEPTED.

BY DONATING YOUR ART, YOU WILL HELP TO RAISE AWARENESS, ACCEPTANCE AND TOLERANCE FOR ALL!  ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO AIDS FOUNDATION HOUSTON

When I received this message I was so moved to participate :)).  So, I cordially invite you all out for this wonderful and monumental/historical event.  And I do believe it is history in the making :)).  I know this to be true because I actually received the pleasure and honor of meeting the coordinator/liason of the event, ANGELa Lara, while enjoying Vanilla Lattes with Cenci [Elizabeth Cencini]; whom is another fantastic artist.  And I can attest that her spirit and energy- as well as other staff members- is, I am sure, the backbone of this previously, and certain to be current, successful event!!!

So please mark your calendars for FEB 29TH to experience this fantastic event and be eligible to take home a fantastic work of art or a certificate for fantastic offerings :))!!  And if you are an artist- or if you know an artist, pass the word- please strongly consider donating/participating :)).

The main event is in the evening, from 5-9pm; however, the Silent Auction starts at 6am; as soon as the doors open :))!!!!  This time-frame is right up Lanny's alley!!  How about it dude??!!

Good morning bloogers & FOX NEWS People,

I havent taken a considerable taxi ride in a long time; well, since 2001, when a taxi ride to Washington Avenue @ Sawyer was only $7 or so [$10 with tip].  Last night, six years later in 2007, i took a taxi from same area to Texas and Dowling [Houston Media Source's location] and it was $15 [$18 with tip]!!!  WHOAAAA!!!  Good thing I went to the ATM earlier...hahaha

Now, I know that I am experiencing a 6-year gap, but WOW; has prices gone up THAT much??!!!  I also noticed that the meter starts at $2.50 and you haven't even moved anywhere.  Then, it seems that it is about $1 per mile.

How do you 'fare' with current taxi prices; or do you not really care about it and anty-up whatever the cost???

I guess the best thing to do is google the distance before you travel; just so I know how much I will actually need.  But, then again, who's got time to do that; especially, with a 'snail-mail' computer :ppppp??!!!

Share your thoughts

Hello bloggers,

I have a friend whom I found myself repeating after as well as playfully mocking him with a saying that I've come to endearingly remember him by.  He says all the time [during or after a statement], "That's just amazing to me"

I had not thought of it before but now that I do think about it I find that I think about my friend whenever the thought of this saying arises; since I've never actually heard anyone else use the phrase.  So, I have this phrase burnished into my mind.

Even for me, I have had people repeat, or playfully mock, when I use the phrase 'Right On!' And I've actually had people tell me that they would think of me whenever they heard, or thought of, this phrase.  So, it seems that there are certain expressions that we have that are reminders of us.

Do you have a certain expression that you realize, either by reflection or someone bringing it to your attention, you have??

Please, share

Local Artist, and blogger, Dune-Micheli Patten, a.ka. WarriorArtist, participates in this exhibition; and responds with his acclaimed sculptural installation-painting, "IN OUR IMAGE MAN WE MAKE II,".  It is a mixed-media work on wood and was regarded by Mayor Lee Brown as 'Prophetic' due to the creation of the piece being completed in July 2001; before September 11th, 2001!!!  Come out to view this 'hand-granade' work of art. This piece has only been shown twice publically; that is, until now.  The time is right for this piece to be collected!  So, come out, see the work, and seriously regard this piece for your collection.

Blog friends :))!!!

Many apologies for the late notice

We are airing 'live' from bohemeo's Art/Music space & CoffeeHouse starting from 6:30-8:30am Tuesday [tomorrow] morning, August 28th.  We ask that you tune in and let us know your thoughts on the works that you see and the coverage in general.  Dune-Micheli would appreciate your input.

The artists sincerely and humbly  thank Lanny Griffith in advance for allowing this propitious opportunity!!!

INFO on the SHOW:

PARTHENO-GENIUS
is a playful pun on the definitive word, parthenogenesis; which means to reproduce without the presence of opposite sex gametes. Thus, meaning reproduction, or creation, can happen without the involvement of the opposite sex. So then, this idea can be related to, spiritually; with the ideas of inspiration and an 'immaculate conception.' Therefore, the artist is free to express himself, or herself, without physical help; save for the spiritual, or worldly, inspiration that compels the artist to create, or 'reproduce.'

Dune-Micheli Patten is a local and nationally recognized mixed-media artist who is also gaining international recognition. Houston-based, although world-focused, artist Dune Patten is largely a self taught artist; and is always in search and support for artistic development. This research and artistic development has taken him and his work to places such as Central America and Europe. Dune says, "...that in order to be a viable entity one must become like Abraham who wandered and followed his own path in faith that he was destined for something better. And in doing so, God was with him." Dune-Micheli was born in California but now lives and works in Houston, TX.

Ludmila Baklanova was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia. At age 18 she arrived in the USA in search of her path. As time passed, she went to school to learn English and try her hand in art. It took only one class of drawing to understand what she was capable of. Encouragement from teacher and friends led her to start exploring the unknown. She experimented with different mediums, from charcoal to acrylic. Completing only five very successful shows- and a sixth coming up- she has been surprising people with her uniqueness and strength. With such a humble artistic background Ludmila’'s artwork reflects the place where she comes from and her bright nature as an artist.

ART AND ALL THINGS INVOLVED WITH THIS EXPRESSION AND PASSION. My goal is to promote the ideal of a striving artist; and not the cliché’ of a starving artist. My aim is become more nationally recognized as well as internationally recognized. I seek to create works of art that are both complex but yet simple at the same time. And my new style, URBAN EXPRESSIONISM, allows me to be that; spontaneous and playful, and also serious, with my work. "Patten’s URBAN EXPRESSIONISM-copyright 2002 style although definitely abstract and modern is anything but vague. There is no denying the message of his work: maybe art is pretension and a sham but the artist is not a sham. It is a sentiment that one can readily believe in when faced with the true nature of a disposable, consumer society. Nothing is real any more so why should art be? And yet Patten strives to confront the viewer with what is real to him, his belief in God, his opinion of how the exploitation of sex, politics, and trend complicates modern society; and his memories of growing up as a person of color in a color-oriented society. His style, although very similar to Basquiat’s, is truly his own. Yet Patten does not send any message about getting even with white society or even fighting against intolerance, Patten chooses instead to almost seduce the viewer with his depictions of how he dealt with such issues and rejected the all too obvious answer to fight back. Patten would rather make the viewer think about why such labels are so readily placed upon others. The result is like the feeling one gets while contemplating one of his paintings: no one should be made to suffer for being what they are. If only the Republican Party could adopt such a sentiment."–Tomas Sustaita; poet, writer, critic
