We've lost another member of 'The Greatest Generation'.

Bill McIntyre was my Grandmother's brother... and my favorite Uncle, when I was growing up. I remember, as a kid, such joy when he would visit our family on a business trip. He wasn't from Houston... but seemed the quintessential fast-talking, cigar chomping Texas Oilman. The guy had friends everywhere. Fond memories of visiting Houston, in the 70's... and Uncle Bill and Aunt Sonia always showing us a great time.

When I moved my family to Houston 10 years ago... Uncle Bill was retired and a bit mellower but still the joy he always was. He will be missed, indeed.

William Penn (Bill) McIntyre

WILLIAM (BILL) PENN MCINTYRE, beloved father and devoted husband, passed away peacefully June12, 2008. Bill was born and raised in Detroit and was a graduate of the University of Michigan. He was a Navy pilot in WWII as well as a minor league baseball player with the Boston Red Sox. Bill worked for Tuboscope in the line pipe division for over 35 years and was a honorary lifetime member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sonia McIntyre and his four children, Kathleen McPherson of Vancouver, British Columbia; William (BG) McIntyre of Houston; R. Kyle McIntyre of Houston and Barbara McIntyre of Boulder Colorado. He is also survived by grandchildren as well as nephews and nieces. Bill was a compassionate caring man who was deeply loved by his family and friends and he will be missed dearly.

Tom... I'm sorry to hear about the loss. Sounds like he lead a good life. I love my Uncle Bill ... my dad's brother, and also one of my favorite uncles.

It's really hard to lose someone you care so much about and I'm sorry it has happened. But just think he is telling all his life stories to others in Heaven as we blog and making those souls as happy as he has made you all these years. You were very lucky to have someone such as him in your life and randythib is correct that Heaven is lucky to have him now. God blessed you with Uncle Bill and now he wants him to be by his side for eternity.

Y'all are great.
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I visited with my aunt, this afternoon... and we shared a few stories. There's a wake this weekend... and there will be lot of laughter and memories... just as Bill would have wanted.
