Hey, Bloggerz...

If you missed it... we had this story, this morning...

(TOM)

WE TELL OUR KIDS IT'S NOT HOW YOU LOOK, IT'S WHAT'S INSIDE THAT COUNTS.

IT'S CALLED "MISS BIMBO."

IN THE ONLINE GAME, YOU CREATE A VIRTUAL BIMBO, PUT HER ON DIETS TO KEEP HER "WAIF THIN" AND PURCHASE THINGS FOR HER, LIKE BREAST ENHANCEMENT SURGERY.

A LOT OF PARENTS DON'T LIKE THE SITE.

BUT HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE ALSO SPEAKING OUT AGAINST IT, SAYING IT ENCOURAGES BULIMIA, ANOREXIA, DIET PILLS AND ELECTIVE SURGERY.

IN ITS FIRST MONTH, THE WEBSITE HAS ATTRACTED 200-THOUSAND GIRLS AGES 9 TO 16.

THE MAN WHO SET UP THE SITE SAYS IT'S ALL HARMLESS FUN.

Harmless fun, indeed.

I said it earlier... I'll say it again... Just because You CAN put something on the internet...doesn't mean you SHOULD. It's up to us... people... to protect our kids. Can't depend on anyone else to do it.

Z

Z

BUT TRY TELLING THAT TO THE MAKERS OF THIS WEBSITE.

I am a firm believer that parents are responsible for what their children do in regards to the internet. But I have to admit...this is just plain sad and the makers should be ashamed.

some people are apparently COMPLETELY lacking when it comes to common sense and morality, but I guess we knew this already. What a jerk. Yes, it most certainly is up to parents to monitor what their kids do and see on the web, and if I HAD children, this would be on the no-freakin-way list. *sigh* just pitiful.

I firmly believe that some people just should not have children. I've stated that before and will probably state it again.

Now after reading this I'm starting to also believe that some people just should not have internet access either.

I'm all about parental responsibility. While I'm not one of the 'helicopter parents'... my kids would probably tell you I keep them on a pretty tight leash.

BUT... what possesses someone to think a website, like this, is a good idea?

I'm glad my kid has very little interest in the Internet. But she's 11, and I can see the teenager in her popping up every now and then.
Had a scare with her week before last. She was at her dads, and tried on some clothes she had left over there. They were all too small, and she told me she wished she could get an eating disorder for just a little while.
My best friend had one she developed her senior year in high school and all through college, so to hear my baby say this, scared the bejeebers out of me.
What did I do? That weekend we sat down in front of the computer, and I took her to different sites, showing her what an eating disorder LOOKS like, what it does to your teeth, to your body.
It grossed her out enough to where I haven't heard anything like that again. Will it last?

Helicopter parent? I haven't heard that one before...
