I've heard like many of you, a few people across the country that seem to think about having selected days to not buy gas.  Last year many of us here in bloggersvilled pondered these questions on the future of gas.  Guess what, snopes.com can provide some information on this pondering in case anyone is interested.  It doesn't work.

I'm getting revolting by these high prices of gas.  Come on, if I hear one more person say some piece of revolting know it all answer.  I'm going to puke and upchuck some huge chunks of gas fumes and hurl in the direction of Congress and the lobbyists.

But, has anyone else thought about the fact that the Federal Reserve has the control over this issue.  Didn't the Bush administration lose a most valuable soul last year in the Federal Reserve - Alan Greenspan?  The man is phenomenally intelligent and if I recall correctly (set me straight if not), he had nothing positive to say about our future in terms of gas and the economy?

Really think that the traders are the ones responsible for setting the panic button.  What I mean by this, if they can make the market panic, it makes the price go up.  Which, we all know that barrels of oil are selling for record high prices.  Congress called the fair haired boys and gals of gas to Washington.  We all know that was going to be a game of dodge ball tough issues and spout off the same rehearsed rhetoric - supply and demand.

Now, here's another panic aftermint thought.  Isn't anyone else concerned that China and other countries are drilling near our shores?  Come on, this makes us look like knucklehead nerd whimps of oil.  "Sorry Universe, America can't come out to drill today.  My Big Brother Al (Al Gore) and the environmentalist tree hugger fanatics won't let me.  But, you go right ahead and drill near our shores for exploration."  I'm being sarcastic, but you get the drift.  This is totally phenomenal in our era to have this happen?  What is happening to America as we know it?   Seriously folks, we are in peril.  Is anyone out there?  Is there anyone that cares?

The production is not up to par.  We need to drill for oil and let the oil companies drill in our country.  Folks, we need it here.  Not in some foreign land.  While we are on the subject isn't OPEC becoming the cartel mafia of oil?

So someone out there help me and the rest of our country understand.   Serioulsy, let's stop spouting off last years rehearsed rhetoric.  Someone out there just simply say - "I don't really know!"

I too am PO'ed about the situation. Now that I'm retired this is taking a chunk of my income just to go to the Dr. About a week ago I got so mad I wrote a bunch of them and put my gripes in capitol letters so they would get my drift. I figured I would get a visit from the FBI but not so far! The damn idiots we have in Washington are as useless and take money from their lobbiest and say screw America. Notice I didn't put democrats as the cause. All the pricks are the cause including the president.

IMO the best thing that could happen to this Country would be for California to break off and fall in the Pacific. Just as long as Gore, Billary, Obama, Pelosi, Kennedy and about a hundred others were sunning on the beach when it did. That way the real Americans could fix this mess!!!

It could be fixed if the auto makers wanted to get it done. Chevy already has a vehicle with an electric motor plus a gas motor. All they want is more money to fix the problem!

Well, you see, American car makers went down this road before in the 1970's with their electric car and then it disappeared as quietly as they hit the market. The documentary Who Killed The Electric Car was very interesting to watch. People are ready. People want an alternative. And if US automakers wait and lose an opportunity and a way to bring back jobs here, it will be a shame. Because American cars have been so poorly made, no one will trust that they are going to get an electric version of a car right, either. So they turn their money to Honda and Toyota who are rolling in the "greenbacks."

redtractortom,
The world as we know it is spinning off its axis. Common sense has flown out of orbit with the astronauts. I'm pretty sure it is out there (common sense), yet I'm afraid: "Houston, we have a problem."

There are solutions. Just not any that would produce $$$.

PBMom,

Yes, there have been several alternatives. Yet, many of the viable solutions get shoved into the closet or brushed under the rug. We really need oil production to happen in this country (on our soil or near our shores). It is futile and infantile, much less a waste of energy if we do not push for something to be done. There are viable alternatives. Yet, people need to step down off their hidden agendas in this country and speak up. If we don't do something about it. We are in peril, our jobs and the economy.

The oil companies will raise the price of gas to do that, too, though, saying that to drill and refine, they have to pass those costs off to the consumer. Had electric cars not been shoved under the rug in the 1970's when they were being investigated, we would have a much different world today. Someone has to think outside the box (the box being more oil). If Japan and Brazil can turn to solar energy and I think it Sweden that is mostly powered by geothermal energy and they are about to switch their cars over to that as well, the US, again, are not the leaders of anything bold or new anymore. So much for being the "superpower" we like to think we are.

Sassy, just a thought I had. Why couldn't we all buy small solar panels and have them mounted to our hood of our cars and have it wired into the engine so that we could use solar power and when we didn't have the power of the sun, the gasoline would kick in then. Simple, simple solution. They use solar panels to power the lights that warn you of a school zone. Doesn't sound like rocket science to change it quickly over, either.

When you think of England & their bicycles, it makes you think there is some alternative.
I would like golf cart type vehicles which would cut our speeds down, instead of gas stations, have charging stations--?
Would not allow you to impress anyone with your ride--not good for long drives, but neat locally!
With our fast paced life, nothing but "fast" commutation would probably work.
I would think that golf cart type vehicles for local commutes & with some gas powered vehicles for long drives would be a vast improvement, maybe?

Without overhauling the congress & getting rid of all the lobbyists, there is no hope!

When Hillary met with Obama to discuss the VP job, she wanted to know if all her "major contributers would get appointments/legislation" according to press releases.
When you think that there are contributers contributing 100-200 MILLION dollars to the 3 candidates, there are a LOT of "debts to be repaid with favorable legislation that is in THEIR best interest"!!
These people don't contribute because they like to give away money!

There was a community just in the news lately who are allowing these golf-type carts. Love the idea.

I have one, & would love to use it.
It may be scary with all the fast cars, semi's, & then there is the getting it "legal" with paperwork.
I should cut down on wrecks, claims, tickets, etc.
Only problem is the cost of batteries, & you get 5 miles from home & the batteries run down--lol!
For people in rural areas, on the farm, etc., it would seem ideal as opposed to 4-wheelers maybe?
It kinda kills the "cruising the streets for young people" usage though--?

PBMom,
That is the problem with our nation. The lobbyists and special interest groups seriously impact our Legislative and Congressional arenas. There needs to be something done, unfortunately time may be running out.
