I wasn't around when Joseph Sybille wielded a shovel, striking his next door neighbor several times in the head.  But I didn't have to be to still cover the story.  A trip to Justina Court proved the long standing feud is far from over.

It all started around 1996 over a fence.  Pretty soon, Sybille and Charles Van Wormer were fighting about pretty much everything:  grass clippings, water drops on the driveway, balls/toys touching the other's property.  Van Wormer started shining spotlights on the Sybille's house and installed the surveillance system that would eventually capture the infamous attack.

We have pictures showing 12 years later, neither side will let it go.  Neighbors say Van Wormer was the first to put out a sign attacking Sybille's character.  Not to be outdone, Sybille planted one of his own, accusing Van Wormer of a heinous crime back in 1958.  Van Wormer was just a kid then, and I have so far been unable to confirm he did commit the crime Sybille alleges, so that's why we blurred the sign in our story.

Do you have any not so nice neighbor stories?  What would you tell these two....ahem...adults?

We "had" a neighbor who's dog attacked everyone in our family and pretty much the neighborhood. When he bit my 3 year old, their only reply was that the dog was just a "puppy" well that "puppy" was about 3 feet tall.

Why did the one guy only get probation for attacked the other with a shovel? He beat him on the head and only got probation? Are there mitigating circumstances here?

In light of some of my recent blogs and re-plies to other blogs, I find it interesting that even if neither of them believe in God, they could both be at peace right now.

If you do not forgive you will not be forgiven and love your neighbor as yourself.

I have had bad neighbors and right across an intersection from our home is a home that parties every time football is mentioned. Drunk, cussing, up all hours of the night smokin dope and sellin' something, but hating them won't solve the problem.

Sybille could have gotten up to 20 years in prison. From what I understand, Van Wormer wasn't exactly seen as a victim, even after being beaten with a shovel. Sybille claims he acted in self defense after Van Wormer allegedly slung racial slurs in his direction and came after him with a lawn mower. (unfortunately, the surveillance camera didn't catch such an act or sound for that matter) Many former neighbors believe Van Wormer "had it coming."

Now we have the answer.
The race card has been thrown in and had it been the reverse Van Wormer would surely gone to prison.
Can't call a spade a spade anymore you can call cow's milk, cow's blood.
Look forward to more strife as the assimilation of the fictitious melting pot boils over and melts its equally fictitious assimilation.

I remember when this happened, but I had no idea that the guy only got probation. Words other than "I am going to kill you" don't justify a beating over the head with a shovel!

I have great neighbors, but one Friday night at midnight there was a birthday party for a 10 year old next door, with over 30 kids in attendance. They were running THROUGH my hedges, breaking eggs, screaming while Buddy tried to sleep, etc. I walked outside and they just ran around me as if I wasn't there. I yelled HEY to get their attention and asked them to be quiet, I had a young child trying to sleep. The mother of the 10 year old cursed me out the next day when I started to ask her to wash the eggs off my driveway, and she hasn't said as much as hello since. Oh well. The house belongs to her grandparents, who I do still visit with.

I have good neighbors except for one. He has the "little man syndrome" and drinks all the time. As I heard once "he let's his alligator mouth overload his canary behind". Mainly because he couldn't whip his way out of a wet paper bag. He mouthed off one time and my wife put him in his truck and he sped away. Not even his brother has much to do with him. It's a real shame because his wife is a sweetheart. I don't know how she got stuck with him? So we just keep away from him because I would hurt him very bad when he mouthed off!

WELL AS I SEE IT , I CAN SEE WHY MR. VAN WORMER WOULD BE HOLDING A GRUDGE AGAINST MR.SYBILLE . I DON'T KNOW IF I COULD LIVE THAT CLOSE TO SOMEONE WHO TRIED TO KILL ME ... I WOULD BE WELL ARMED IF I DID BUT I WOULD RATHER MOVE .

Well we get along with our neighbors around us. We like to mind our own business and really don't say much. However, one day "the neighbors" woke up to trash all over their front yard. The man next door had the nerve to tell my father that it was our trash and to pick it up. First, "my father" is calm and is not looking for trouble man. So he pick it up, but in all that garbage was dirty diapers. And we don't have any babies in our household!! Funny thing was that our neighbors had just had a newborn. So it was THEIR trash. Well my dad had already picked it up.

Traffic Diva- It happens, in our neighborhood there are these "neighbors" had their daughter bitten by our dog(on the hand), who has never bitten anyone before, however it was because the little girl came over to our yard and hug our dog really hard around its neck, so he reacted. Come to see a month after that happened, the little girl went over to my front neighbors and was hugging their dog, and got bitten on the leg. So was it the dog's fault or was it the little girl?

My dream has come true! I'm so thankful to report in the city that means the most to me. I'm the one in the newsroom who's excited to cover any story, from the most powerful hurricane to the most mundane city council meeting. While I certainly don't find comfort in reporting on another's troubles, the people I meet each day inspire me in some way, and I hope they affect you, too!
