We're not talking about children but animals!

My good friend over at the SPCA tells me hundreds of baby sparrows, Mockingbirds, Carolina Wrens, Owls, Starlings and Doves are arriving each day by the dozens.  The SPCA has a new state of the art wildlife center to care for them.  (Baby bird season runs from March through July)

The wildlife center needs volunteers!  The good people there will train you to care for these precious babies until they can be released into the wild.   www.WRandE.org or call 713-861-WILD

And speaking of wildlife....my husband built me a squirrel feeder!!!  Word is out in the neighborhood, and there have already been several fights!

That's great! Several years ago I had to "sit" a few baby birds that fell out of or were kicked out of their nest. I'd rather help them then see a cat or car get them...good thing to do.

Bah Humbug!

Stranded baby birds are nature's way of population control and feeding hungry cats. It's SPCA touchy-feely nonsense that only serves to make liberals feel good about themselves. What a waste of money.

You sound like Externae (sp?).

I've enjoyed watching the baby birds around my house hatch and then move on. The birds are recycling the nests now for the next group. A dove made a nest over one of my patio light fixtures. It was neat to see the "changing of the guard" between momma bird and daddy bird. They had two of the cutest little babies. Within an hour after I saw the mom nudging one of the birds, the nest was empty. I've never seen birds nest so close to people, and it was neat that the nest was low enough that I could see into it. I wouldn't have thought that the SPCA needed help tending to birds - thanks for the story! Maybe they can send me an owl or two, to help keep critters out of my garden?

I've got baby birds up the ying-yang in two nests above my porch. There's bird-do everywhere and the din the little bast'ds make when they are hungry drowns out my Mad-T-Dog-Thug rap music turned up to 98dB.

I built a little ladder up to there in case the neighbor's cat wants a snack but so far no luck. I like the owl idea though. Hooters are somewhat nice to have around... nuck-nuck.

I think humans could take a good lesson in family matters just by watching the wonderful wildlife which is gradually disappearing due to all the chemicals in the air and no doubt that brain dead rap sounds at 98dB's.
Some orchestrated music sobers the mind.

I'd love to help out and I'll get to learn, too. I have been thinking about doing some volunteer work but I wasn't sure what. It looks like you've recruited me for this if they still have something for me to do.

At my place in Jersey there was this mother squirrel that would ring the doorbell every day asking for more in-the-shell peanuts. I would throw them to her and she would hide them all over the yard. But the blue-jays like the peanuts, too, and the blue-jays and the squirrel would scream at each other, and this poor mother squirrel was outnumbered by an army of peanut-seeking blue-jays with their tactical air-strikes and attacks from every direction.... it was pretty funny to watch.

Squirrels are such funny characters. You gotta watch them around the bird feeders though, the little thieves, they won't leave anything for the birds!

FYI...

That smell you're complaining about is the smell of money and if anything it's making the wildlife breed faster. By the way, I and the rest of the African American community are offended by your blatant attack our our culture. Just for that I'm going to give Randy the homosexual your home phone number. Take that!

I FEED ABOUT 6 OR 7 SQUIRRELS IN THE FOUNDERS CEMETERY EVERY DAY. 4 ARE JUST BABIES, BUT THEY KNOW I AM GOING TO FEED THEM I LOVE TO WATCH THEM CHASE EACH OTHER UP AND AROUND THE TREES LOVE APPLES ALSO, LIKE THE MAN SAID, THEY WILL BURY THE PEANUTS AND REMEMBER WHERE THEY ARE.

My dream has come true! I'm so thankful to report in the city that means the most to me. I'm the one in the newsroom who's excited to cover any story, from the most powerful hurricane to the most mundane city council meeting. While I certainly don't find comfort in reporting on another's troubles, the people I meet each day inspire me in some way, and I hope they affect you, too!
