The motto is, "See.  Touch.  Hear.  Taste.  Explore."

Well, four years and $122 million later the rough pavement has transformed into gorgeous lawns.

Logan, the German Shepherd, and I took advantage of the B-E-A-UTIFUL weather this weekend to discover the park.  I loved everything from the lake to the fountains and live music.  There is even a dog run for your four legged friends, though it's fairly small so there's acutally a sign that reads "45 minutes per dog!"  Here are a few pictures I snapped.  Do you plan on making the trip to downtown?

Sally, I think I will be heading down there once the crowds die out. But, the questions are... where do you park and did your dog enjoy the run? I'm wondering if I can bring my dog and then just let her hang out with us while we picnic. Is there enough room is everyone is spread out? I wanted to meet the family there, but didn't want to be so crowded that there's no running room for the children! Thanks for the photo, it looks like we should bring a change of clothes for the kids!

Pattie,

I drove past it yesterday and there is a parking garage underneath the park. You get into it from Avenida de las Americas, but the question is, do you have to pay? If so how much?

Sally???? :-)

Hi guys, sorry I was MIA on my blog!!!! My husband said, 'Sally, people are starting to put question marks after your name, like where are you????' I didn't know anyone responded!!! Okay, so parking. Pattie, I know you're cheap like me, (Stormchaser, are you cheap???) so here's the deal. Yes, you have to pay if you park underneath in the garage. I don't know how much. Parking on the street is ONLY FREE on Sundays, so that's the day I'll be there. On opening day with 20,000 people, I only had to park about four blocks away so I was pretty happy. I'm thinking in a few more weeks I'll only have to walk a block. The dog run is nothing special. It's more like a dog pen. I took my dog in there for a drink of water and to say hi to some other cute dogs, but then he got bored. No one gave me a hard time about letting my dog cool off in the spray fountains or in the lake. There are so many places to spread out and run around! There are about six or seven different lawns, and they're huge! Not a lot of shade on the lawns, but there are a couple of walkways that provide some cool spots. Wear sunscreen! I would recommend packing a lunch...one restaurant is upscale, the other offers hot dogs, hamburgers and stuff like that. I promise to respond faster to other questions!!!!!

My dream has come true! I'm so thankful to report in the city that means the most to me. I'm the one in the newsroom who's excited to cover any story, from the most powerful hurricane to the most mundane city council meeting. While I certainly don't find comfort in reporting on another's troubles, the people I meet each day inspire me in some way, and I hope they affect you, too!
