Would a government use organized religion to control its people? The Thermals think so and on their latest release "the body the blood the machine" they make a pretty strong case for their argument.  Lyrically this it the strongest effort that I have heard from an indie band in a long while.  But the music is just as potent and the band delivers each song with a nervous conviction that makes them immedeately likeable.  Each piece has it's own interesting personality due to the fact that this isn't just three chord, chorus-verse-chorus stuff.  There are off beat melodies throughout the album that should keep you interested as you move from track to track.  Go check them out and tell me what you think?

Organized religion uses orgainized religion to control its people, why not the government?

Txfan you are right on. The Thermals took on this theme and really made if work for an entire album.
It may be a little too punky for some and not tough enough for others, but I think it's a fine effort all the way around.

Ruben have you seen this:

It is the music video for the song from their album you mentioned above, Pillar of Salt.
Some might call me a hypocrite and my family might disown me for saying this, but I understand what this band is singing about. They do have a good sound. I sure would not have been able to listen if it was too tough.

Txfan, thanks for taking the time and checking this out .. I love that song. The band just cooks and you can tell they have a good thing going .. I just really love the raw, no bones about it style that they have. good for you on keeping and open mind. It's only rock n roll, and I like.

According to Kristine Galvan, I'm the station junk man. That's because I pick up all the assignments that everyone else avoids. But hey, it's a living. I'm a non-award winning, non-journalist and so far I like it that way.
