Well, here we go again with one of those random events that have me absolutely floored. TRUE STORY!!!! This afternoon I was taking my dog out to tend to his business, you know, "dog things." As I mentioned in my "Duck Murderer" blog, I live in one of the loft communities downtown. When I take my dog out, I go downstairs, out the gate, then I cross the street. Today, as I was walking down the stairs I see this woman walking out the gate, talking on her cell phone. I am about 20 feet behind her as I am walking down the stairs. All of a sudden I see this cute little girl (couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 years old) run past me. She walks up and presses the button to open the gate. As she pushes the gate open, I can see she is trying to catch up with the woman I assume was her mother. I step out the gate about 5 steps behind her to see her dart between 2 parked cars and out into the street. I FREAKED~!!!! "SWEEEETIE" I screamed since I was tall enough to see the work van rapidly approaching the intersection. She turned back and came back to me in one quick turn as the van came to a screeching halt. Keep in mind, the woman is still on her cell phone getting into her car, on the other side of the street. I took the little girls hand and walked her across the street. This scared the hell out of me.. What I found even more frightening was the way this woman behaved... She reached her hand out for her little girls hand asthough I was expected to escort this little girl across the street. She didn't thank me or anything.. I  believe she was oblivious to what had just taken place only a few feet away from her..At no time did this woman take the phone away from her ear. Today I am calling myself a hero~!...   WOW~!!!! Must have been soooome important phone call....

Way to go RockStar... you are that little girls hero for certain.
I was at Moody Gardens once, and there was this little girl standing by a line for some exhibit, not too far from the concession stand, and she was crying her eyes out, yelling for her mommy. My wife and I calmed her down and took her to an employee there, who refused to help, so we stayed with her, until this huge slob of a woman came up to her to say "Let's go", without a word to either of us. She had about a half dozen chili dogs in her massive paws, and turns out the dad, just sitting his fat butt over at the tables waiting for his chili dog. Poor little girl, didn't know where her mommy was, and the mommy obviously had better things to do.
By the way, my 4 yr old daughter just saw your pictures, and said you look like an April LOL
Don't know if she knows any Aprils or not. Funny.

You are a hero RockStar. Too bad that Mother was so darn preoccupied to know that you did something heroic. People are self-absorbed and most definitely self centered these days. I think talking on the cell phone in the scenario you described borderlines on rudeness and improper etiquette. We need more heroes like you. Hang in there!

I was at work and I answer my cell phone and I hear a breathless and an obviously shaken Dawn on the other line. I asked her what had happened and she told me. Of all the people I know (and this is not a biased opinion) she cares more about her fellow man or woman than anyone. If we all could learn only one thing from her the world would be a better place.

My name is Dawn. My blogs should say enough about me~! I have many blogs on myspace but decided to try a new forum. Some of them are funny, some of them serious. They're all just my little way of trying to make sense of this crazy thing we all call life. If I make new friends in the process, even better....
