While watching FOX news this morning I saw something that I am seeing way too often this campaign season. It's not a matter of black or white, male or female, old or young... This applies to the voters as well as the candidates. When you register to vote, this is a privilege. It's not just a way to pass the time or to get the little "I Voted Today" sticker... You need to know who you are voting for and why. The woman this morning from the "House of Pies" is a classic example of voters gone array. When asked why she is voting for Obama, she couldn't give a reason other than saying she thinks he will help the poor people. This was after she said she didn't follow politics very well. Look people, this is not a popularity, racial or gender contest, this is finding the right person to run our Country. Each person who exercises their right to vote, owes the People of this Country the time it takes to learn what each candidate is trying to do (or undo) for ALL of us. You look both ways before crossing the road don't you? Why should this be any different? Think about it....~! PLEASE

I have been watching all the coverage on the upcoming hurricane season since I have been in bed sick for the past few days. While watching the other night, I saw where there might be a problem when it comes to the evacuations from the Southern parts of Texas such as Brownsville. One of the big problems I thought was the more pressing of them all was the fact that all of the evacuees are going to have to head North through Immigration Check Points. This is going to be absolute chaos if there isn't a plan of attack. I think I might have one figured out thanks to some excellent charts graphs and maps I saw the other day depicting the low lying flood prone areas. I am going to try and sound intelligent while explaining something I believe might work so bear with me, I am doped up on cold medicine...
First of all, the professionals need to get the Texas map and color code it by the elevation (above and below sea level.) Then there needs to be some kind of mailer sent out to each household in each of the areas telling the individual what level risk they are when it comes to the flooding possibilities. Example: The red zone will be the coastline, the orange will be a little further inland, then the yellow, then the green, and so on. Kind of like the radar when it comes to the severity of the flooding but applied to the land. I hope that makes sense.. Anyway... The Storm develops, then there is the voluntary evacuation process. I think there should be Immigration check point "substations" at all major intersections leading up to the main checkpoint that we are hearing might become a problem. You have to check every person, so why not break it up into a grid formation and then when each person is checked, they will get a wrist band or something that they have to keep on themselves at all times until they return to their homes. Any substation along the evacuation route will be able to give the bands that will verify the persons immigration status and their living area. The driver passes a substation and waves this arm to show he/she has been checked which will be confirmed by some little paper thing placed on the dashboard or something This will also help identifying who belongs in what area when they return. The green wristband will not be allowed into the red zone. This protects from looting, or other crimes that usually follow. Earlier evacuations would use the roads closer to the coastline, to keep the traffic from building up to a complete standstill, then the closer the storm, the more roads being used and the more substations. It's kind of like when you go to the bank, if you have 50 people in line waiting to make a deposit and you only have 2 lanes open, it will take longer than if you have 10 lanes open. You know, this made sense in my head last night when I was trying to figure out how this problem could be solved, or at the least, subsided. This "plan" does not have to happen only in the event of an evacuation from Southern Texas, this kind of thing could apply to everyone in every hurricane prone area.. I hope I didn't sound like a complete idiot... Damn cold medicine~!
If any of this was confusing to you, please feel free to ask me questions. I really think this could work...

... Now we all know when there is a McDonalds commercial on TV or the Radio because you always hear "Buh Duh Duh Duh Duh, I'm Lovin' It..." As if that is not annoying enough, you have that stupid jingle in your head for the rest of the day... You don't even have to be in the same room as the TV and you are cursed with the McDonalds Jingle Plague~! What is it about McDonalds commercials that make we the consumer, look so dumb? Have any of you actually gone into a McDonalds and seen ANY employee look as happy to be there as they do in the commercials? Is the food really that good? Is it really food at all? I can't tell you the last time I ate anything from McDonalds. I think it had to do with a bad experience with the Chicken McNuggets. What is a McNugget anyway? It's NOT real chicken.. I mean, it's a weird spongy rubbery bit of foreignness that is then battered and deep fried... All white meat my booty~! I don't care what kind of sauce you dip it in, it never tastes good...Then there is the "Healthy Kids Menu" or something like that. They make themselves look like they care about helping the young people become health conscious when it comes to their food.. The have apple slices.. BIG DEAL~!! When you order these apple slices they come with this plastic container of gooey caramel dipping sauce. So basically, the kids are using the apple slices as spoons for this 5000 calorie thing McDonalds calls "A Healthy Alternative." As if that's not bad enough... This whole Ronald McDonald clown really freaks me out... I don't want to even spend time blogging about him because when I do, I visualize the clown and I keep looking behind me to see if he is about to pop up and scare me.. What is he always smiling about anyway? Bottom line... No matter how many commercials I have seen/heard, they're dumb... And annoying... McDonalds people make we the consumer look like a bunch of dipping sauce starved idiots that are convinced "We're lovin' it."

Well, here we go again with one of those random events that have me absolutely floored. TRUE STORY!!!! This afternoon I was taking my dog out to tend to his business, you know, "dog things." As I mentioned in my "Duck Murderer" blog, I live in one of the loft communities downtown. When I take my dog out, I go downstairs, out the gate, then I cross the street. Today, as I was walking down the stairs I see this woman walking out the gate, talking on her cell phone. I am about 20 feet behind her as I am walking down the stairs. All of a sudden I see this cute little girl (couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 years old) run past me. She walks up and presses the button to open the gate. As she pushes the gate open, I can see she is trying to catch up with the woman I assume was her mother. I step out the gate about 5 steps behind her to see her dart between 2 parked cars and out into the street. I FREAKED~!!!! "SWEEEETIE" I screamed since I was tall enough to see the work van rapidly approaching the intersection. She turned back and came back to me in one quick turn as the van came to a screeching halt. Keep in mind, the woman is still on her cell phone getting into her car, on the other side of the street. I took the little girls hand and walked her across the street. This scared the hell out of me.. What I found even more frightening was the way this woman behaved... She reached her hand out for her little girls hand asthough I was expected to escort this little girl across the street. She didn't thank me or anything.. I believe she was oblivious to what had just taken place only a few feet away from her..At no time did this woman take the phone away from her ear. Today I am calling myself a hero~!... WOW~!!!! Must have been soooome important phone call....

Traffic
I am not sure how many of you who read these blogs has seen this, but if you have driven on I-10 East at the 610 North Exit within the past 2 months, you have passed it... There is a HUGE mangled mess of what was once a "Road Work Ahead" sign on the right side of the road. As you know, this area is on a curve. It terrifies me every time I pass it, because I have this fear of someone hitting it and throwing debris into my or any other motorists windshield. Or my biggest fear (as I was once in a horrible accident with an 18-wheeler) is that a big truck will swerve into my lane to avoid hitting it and in return cause a horrible accident. This sign (at one time) probably stood over 6 feet tall. I am sure SOMEBODY that worked on the road crew noticed an unaccounted for sign. I am sure SOMEBODY with TxDOT or HPD, or any of the many other agencies that use this stretch of road has passed it, yet for over 2 MONTHS it's still there... Make this make sense to me. This is a LAWSUIT waiting to happen.... But at what cost...?I know I posted this blog under the NEWS catagory too, but I think it's important enough for multiple posts..
Be safe out there people~!

I heard that June 7 was the 2008 Hurricane Conference at the George R. Brown Convention Center. I have always been fascinated with the weather and would absolutely love to attend. It is open to the public but I am not sure what it's all about. I have looked online to try to find info about the conference but have not been able to find anything. If anyone knows what goes on at one of these confrences could you pass that info on to me? I would love to go but if it's just a bunch of people talking meteorological terms that I wouldn't completely understand, I am not sure it would be something I would enjoy. I guess I would just like to know what takes place so I can decide if it's something I would enjoy or should pass on... For any of you interested, it's June 7,2008 at the George R. Brown from 12:00p-12:00a....

I just finished watching the news and the story about the "Special needs child that was being criminalized by the school system." I am sick and tired of hearing excuses for inappropriate behavior amongst the youth of today. When are the parents going to step up to the plate? I am not saying that there aren't "Special Needs" children out there, but I think this child is a different story. This child said "I can't stand for anyone to touch me in any way, I am afraid they might hurt me." SO obviously he knows the difference between right and wrong. He knows what it means to "hurt" someone because he has the ability to fear it. Instead, he acts on it. Well what gives him the right to touch or ASSAULT the teachers? When the teacher does the appropriate thing by calling authorities, the child is now made out to be the victim... ? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What he did was a criminal act. If he is a special needs child, I am sorry, but that does not excuse violent behavior. The parents chose to allow this special needs child to continue attending the school that was obviously a problem for this child. Perhaps they should try a different approach to getting his education so the other students and teachers that attend the school and work there wont become another statistic to the violence in our schools today. It angers me when I see stories like this. The child disrupting the class with violence against the teacher while the other children were probably witnessing the act. What do you think that does to the innocent children that share the school with him? The interview I saw of this child, seemed like he had a pretty good head on his shoulder. He spoke eloquently and seemed rather intelligent for 10 years old. I see someone using the "special needs" as a label they can hide behind to keep themselves from having to discipline their child for breaking the law... Somebody somewhere is falling short of their responsibilities and I don't think it's the teachers that refuse to allow themselves to be victimized. What should they have done? Sit back and wait for him to show up with a gun and start shooting, then that might have been the appropriate time to notify the authorities? If he is on, or has been on 25 different meds, obviously they are not working and that should be explored, otherwise, keep him out of the schools so the others can attend with peace of mind and a clear head for what should go on in school...TEACHING AND LEARNING..... NOT VIOLENCE~!

Ok, here is another one of those experiences that could only happen to me... I think... So, I am getting things put away at the loft. It's all about organization. I am tearing down the boxes, washing everything, dusting everything, doing laundry, working on flower arrangements and trying to find a way to incorporate feathers into them to bring the bar area and the living area together. It's a whole process thing... So I am standing in the livingroom area and I hear this duck quacking. I look at the TV and see no duck. I look out the window and see no duck. I open the front door and look down the hall and see no duck. Where the hell is this duck and why does it sound like it's in pain? I am trying to help. This is driving me crazy. I feel sad for the duck. I wonder if it has been hit by a car on the freeway and has been thrown to the roof of my building. I NEED to find this duck and save it... For 45 minutes I look for the duck. At this point I am sure it's somewhere close to my front door. Perhaps the people that live above or beneath me have an injured duck and they left it alone. I don't know.... I am on a duck hunting frenzy here and feel I am running out of time. Then.... All of a sudden... The quacking stops..... Silence~! The duck died? I don't know.. I am beside myself.... I let this duck die, now I am sad.... I try to occupy my mind with the tasks at hand. I continue on with my day.. I go to the dryer, get the towels out and fold them, then take the stuff out of the wash and put it in the dryer.... THERE THAT DAMN QUACKING IS AGAIN~! I found the injured duck.... Although it was not a duck at all, it was Little Mans fluffy pink pig squeeky dog toy that somehow got thrown in with the wash. With each agitation of the washer, something pushed up against it making it squeek. I was going nuts... My day is complete now. What a great feeling it is to know I am not a duck murderer..I hope with all the craziness going on in todays news, this can add a little laughter to your day .. Welcome to a day in the life of Dawn~!

I live in one of the loft communities downtown right next to Minute Made Park. I absolutely LOVE the building. The location is prime. Over all my experience here has been wonderful. The landscapers keep the property nice and clean, the flower beds nice and the grass freshly cut. It's like a little paradise in the middle of downtown. At night when I walk my dog, I can hear the roar of the crowd as the Astro's hit one out of the park or there's an RBI... I am a part of this community and am lucky enough to have it as my back (and front) yard.... This is where I live and I take tremendous pride in it. On any given game day, the street is supposed to be NO PARKING from 2 hours before until 1 hour after. I have seen people park there, and absolutely nothing happen, I have seen every car with a ticket under it's windshield wipers, and I have seen every car get towed. It's different every game.. I have to say, it would be kind of a bummer to go have a good time at the game then come out to find you car has been towed... HOWEVER!!!!!! This is clearly marked NO PARKING. While I wouldn't go out of my way and call to have any of your cars towed, out of an act of kindness to those of you who park there, you could extend me the same damn courtesy by not using the grass as the dumping ground for any and all loose trash you have in your cars. It blows my mind at how disrespectful you are to your city as well as what is considered part of my yard. I see it all, coffee mugs, beer bottles, 12 packs of beer bottles in the boxes just set outside the cars, food wrappers, clothes, dirty diapers. Maybe you do this at your own house, but WE don't do this here. It does not save you any time by throwing the trash out on the grass, why not just wait until you have a trash can in front of you...? Maybe all the beer you're drinking while driving (real smart) to the game has clouded your judgement. With everything you see these days about environmental "friendliness" one might assume these idiots have been living under a rock... Sounds more like they were raised in a barn...

Now this has me at my wits end~! As I am sure you have all seen, Myanmar, in South East Asia, was hit by a devastating cyclone about a week ago. As usual the US steps up to the plate to aid in the relief efforts. This aid however, is not welcome by the Myanmar government. Their own government is limiting access to the aid workers. BLEEP? We are talking about over 60,000 people that have died and over 1,000,000 now homeless and that toll is sure to rise. THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT is limiting the access to those who are trying to lend a helping hand. I know we all talk about the problems that happen right here in our own country, why not focus on what is going on here instead of the other countries. I agree to a point, but on the other hand, we are compassionate as a nation and want to help when we see something as catastrophic as this. When you see children walking what is left of the streets of this city, bodies littering the streets, chaos all around, this is beyond a GOVERNMENT ISSUE~! Their government sits safely in their homes and offices as this outpour of aid is sent to them. "Anything that might have a positive impact is being looked at and is being discussed. Everything within the law is being considered at this point in time." Ky Luu, director of the U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance said... I think at this point anything would be a positive impact. I bet if you were to get down there in the heart of the disaster and ask the people walking around, tripping over dead bodies, and all the aftermath of this cyclone, they would probably welcome any help they could get. Thousands of people die daily due to the lack of help allowed in. I hear their government is saying "NO" to aid from the US, but what do you think the PEOPLE want? What do you think the PEOPLE need? They need help. A lot of help need help. What an insult to the people to now hear that they will allow ONE US plane to send supplies. This is where we actually see what our elected officials do for our country when hit with a disaster. It's a Humanitarian situation, this shouldn't be political. There is nothing wrong with accepting help when it is needed so badly. I'll be dammed if I would live in a country where my government is so arrogant and headstrong that when they are hit with a disaster, the handful of them compared to the MILLION (or more) that are victims walking around in the chaos, sit there playing "eenie, meenie, miney, mo" with the aid that is trying to be sent their way... HOW DARE THEY PLAY WITH PEOPLES LIVES LIKE THAT.... Kind of makes all the BS going back and forth between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama obsolete, doesn't it.... Get out and vote people~!
