Astros GM Ed Wade isnt a big guy.

Ok, he looks kinda "extra-small" in my opinion.  Yet, this well built pitcher grabbed him, threw him to the ground (several times, according to Wade) and tackled him, BUT he has NO visible scrapes or bruises?????????????

I guess I'm not saying, but I am thinking.....

Things that make you go "hmmm?"

Now about those Wrestlers/Actors....

The Rice Owl Baseball team heads off to Omaha today to gear up for the 2008 College World Series.  Owl fan or not...you got feel some loyalty to the only team from the Lone Star state.

Good luck Rice!  Hope you bring home another national championship.

David Justice on allegations he used steroids.  He was on 97.5 today laughing it off and pointing out his not-so-good season.

I dont really care one way or another what this stranger does to his own body, but I kinda believed him after hearing his story.  Maybe Roger and Andy should talk.

I sprained my knee 9 days ago... only I thought going to a doctor would be stupid, so I settled for over-the-phone medical advice from a doctor-slash-friend of mine and my dad, who used to coach high school football.

Bad call...after 9 days, my knee is still swollen. I went to my Houston doctor today only to find out... I was too late. The blood that is making my knee swell has thickened so much...a regular sized syringe couldnt get it out... SO... yes, I consented to the doc sticking a larger sized syringe in... AND OH MY GOD.......................(Yes, feel free to imagine a few curse words here)....

I fainted in the doctors office and still....NO LUCK! So now I have a (even more) swollen knee that HURTS... and I'll probably have to look for a new Halloween costume because a messed up knee doesnt go with my first choice....

I've been hesitant about writing this post because my mom reads it and now...  yep, I can expect the "What happened?"  phone call.

I sprained my knee working out over the weekend.  It looks worse than it is, and it really only hurts when I walk or stand on it for more than 5 minutes or so....

Either way, I had to miss artfest this weekend and dinner at the in-laws (because I didnt want to explain to them either, but they read this blog too, so oh well...). I had scheduled to have today off because I thought I was going to South Texas to visit my family this weekend but changed plans at the last minute so I didnt have to call in sick to work.  I'll be there with bells on tomorrow, but also with a swollen knee and a bruise thats about 3 inches around (It looks like a grapefruit is growing out of my knee).

I'm marrying into a family of Nebraska nuts.  I love it cause I'm a  nut for football, but I've never really paid much attention to the Nebraska mascot.  I'm used to all the "red,"  the capital letter "N," and the cornhusk looking thing, but I've never really paid attention to the little man looking mascot.  Does he have a name???

Anyway I found a supercute Nebraska sweatshirt .  When I told my better half about it he said I shouldve gotten it to stash away as a Christmas gift, but  I didnt because I thought the little man was a joke.  He looks very backwoods, but apparently thats the real mascot.

I guess its like A&M having a collie and general looking guy as their mascot...

I got word last Wednesday (8.8.07) a good friend is really sick. He's been battling stomach cancer for a few months now, but I think the doctors caught it too late.

So, my friends especially those of you from South Texas... (Edinburg, Elsa, and Edcouch), PLEASE join me. Send your prayers for Coach Robert Vela.

Coach Vela will be remembered as a very successful High School 4A and 5A football coach, so many of you in the Houston area may have heard of him, but to me... he will be a VERY close family friend...someone who the people closest to me LOVED with all their hearts.

Last Wednesday, Coach Vela asked to be released from the hospital because things werent looking well. At this hour he is in critical condition, but he wanted to spend his final days at home... with his family, friends and his BOBCATS.

He was so happy with those of you who showed up at his home.

Go Bobcats! Go Coach Vela. We love you.

Today...

I was meeting a friend for a late lunch and the Astros were on the television (playing the Cubs).

I started thinking about my childhood and my EXTREME first crush...Ryne Sandberg!

So I googled Ryne Sandberg on my Blackberrry and I beyond blown away!

Definitely not my type anymore, but I remember being a tiny tot and soooooooooo totally taken by Mr.  Sandberg.  Very funny now!

They've been bugging me since I moved to Houston.

The Astros have huge, bigger than life-sized, pictures of some of their star players hanging on the walls around MinuteMaid Park.  I've always noticed, but never said anything, but today I heard a lot of people who were at the park for the opening day street party, saying the same thing.

Some, not all, of those posters are very unflattering...at least the way the players pants fit.

Can't they photoshop out the weirdness?

This and my last post have been about people I think are truly great. Heads up! This one isn't about Vince (although I think he's pretty talented). It isn't about the Texans (who are quickly replacing the Cowboys as my NFL favorites). This post is about Mark Berman- our Fox 26 sports director.

Simply put...MARK ROCKS!

When I interviewed for my job here at Fox, everyone told me how great our sports director was. "Scoop"-- they called him. As a first born to a sports fanatic (My dad was an awesome football player back in his day, played semi-pro baseball, and settled into a coaching career in South Texas... courtesy of my mom- oh, what might have been-)it was a selling point. Shortly after moving to Houston, I realized Mark was (and is) golden.

On Sunday, I had to work on my normal day off. But it wasnt really work. I got to hang out at the Texans/Titans football game.

To be honest, I thought Vince was good, but it took that overtime run to make me think..."Oh My!" I thought Carr played well. But the person who blew me away was Mark Berman...who not only continues to "scoop" the competition, but took time out of his busy work schedule to make sure I had everything I needed story-wise.

My dad (my hero, in case you couldnt tell) has always told me it takes talent to be on top, to be the best...but it takes class to stay there. I guess I know why Berman hasn't budged from that spot.

I love Houston, but miss South Texas... ...Have a weakness for pasta and vinegar-soaked cucumbers made by my father-in-law's sister in Kansas or.... The Blue Onion in Weslaco (McAllen too!)...I absolutely love the outdoors, and can never resist a nap! And did I mention I found in Houston the most amazing "better half" I could have ever wished for? Besos!
