Tell me what you think....

Do you think cost cutting is resulting or will result in poorer customer service?  Or, is our "Energy Capital of the World" immune to the ecomonic crunch?  I'd love to hear from you...

I believe it's the whole work attitude. What can I do to help you? has been replaced with that's not my job. When gas was 35 cents per gallon we got the works. Now we pay four dollars plus and get a dirty look from the cashier for interrupting her phone call. We all have to pay more these days but we must never forget "The customer is our life line."

People are spread thin. You look at the department stores, retail outlets and food stores. Everyone in every part of the city is understaffed. They've been understaffed for years. When the economy was booming, nobody cared about the "cutbacks and cost saving" measures. Everyone is in a bitter mood due to the economy. It is testing everyone's nerves. I feel sorry for all that work in any capacity of the customer service industry. There are also many people with "spoiled, diva like" attitudes that compound the issue. There are a lot of friendly people. Just remember though, pleasantness works from both perspectives.

Good custotmer service has been eliminated and as Sassy11 stated it's due to less people. I can understand that part but what chaps my butt is the press 1 for english then you have to go through about 10 different prompts to get to the area you want when you call. I sometimes call my health insurance and they have this stupid voice that comes on and asks questions to try and get you to the right person. After about 10 minutes of me telling the stupid thing what I want and repeating it several times it finally decides to pass me to a person. The people are nice as can be but that damn computer voice activated thing really gets my blood pressure up.

I worked in the days of customer service or service first and today there is no such thing! But I guess the ones working in that capacity have a hard time being nice to everyone especially when they get someone like me who blows his stack rather quickly after the first sarcastic word they come out with!

I have to agree with Sassy on this one...people are at their wits end. And it is hard to like people and enjoy what you do as far as work goes when you have so much on your mind and are miserable. Couple that with being a part of a 4 man team that is doing the work that used to be done by 8 people and you have an explosion of attitude and anger waiting to happen.

And Red has it right too...I hate those long waits to speak with a live person who never comes. And if they do come they are so rude.

So yes, Kristine...I think that the cost cutting has already hurt customer service in just about all industries. As for the future...it's pretty grim I think, unless the moral of the the common person is not improved soon.

I love Houston, but miss South Texas... ...Have a weakness for pasta and vinegar-soaked cucumbers made by my father-in-law's sister in Kansas or.... The Blue Onion in Weslaco (McAllen too!)...I absolutely love the outdoors, and can never resist a nap! And did I mention I found in Houston the most amazing "better half" I could have ever wished for? Besos!
