I got assigned to the big WrestleMania 25 announcement today.  Problem:  I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about wrestling.

While interviewing one of the guys, I asked for his name.  He said something like "New Money Man,"  so I asked why is that guy calling you "Punk?"  Well, thats also his name....?????

Okay next problem, so what is a wrestler?  Are they athletes?  Entertainers?  Performers?  Actors?

The answer is yes, yes, yes and yes. They are part athlete, actor and acrobat and God knows what else. It's a fun show to watch even if it's not "real" like boxing or MMA. I bet you're going to have ALOT of fun covering the event. Big sweaty muscluar men in tights?

All of the above.

Bruce Pritchard, aka "Brother Love" back in the 80s, is a 1981 graduate of J Frank Dobie High School in the Pasadena district. He told me that not only do they have to be superior athletes, but have to obtain an acting license and register with the Screen Actors Guild in order to join the WWE. (WWF back in those days, the days of the Ultimate Warrior, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Honky Tonk Man, Macho Man Savage, and Miss Elizabeth.)

All prior comments are on target.
Professional wrestlers utilize their partners movements to enhance the movements, & most all bouts are practiced.
Another thing that is 100% --
Whichever wrestler makes the first offensive move--will lose.
No offensive move sometimes dictates a draw.
You DO have to be in excellent physical shape to endure the task.
I was involved in this profession, in various aspects--for a few years--many years ago--

When I was a young teen, used to save up every bit of allowance money to go to the wrestling matches. Man, those guys have to be in excellent physical condition. I can see why they would have to sign up with the Actors Guild too. I've seen a lot of those matches and I'm a female! Gotta love it though, the intensity. When you are a young kid, you really think those wrestlers are really wrestling. When you get older, you realize, awww dang they were just acting. It sure looks real though!

Kristine... I remember going to WrestleMania III... in the Pontiac Silverdome... Ummmm 22 years ago. At the time... it was the largest indoor audience, ever... and more than 100,000. What fun! Everyone else is right on... Athletes and entertainers.

We used to go to the old Coliseum to see Paul Bosch and " rastlin " back in the day. It's delightful.
Kristine, the next time you spend 12 hours in pounding meetings with managers, and photogs, and interviews that go horribly wrong, put your feet up, take the phone off the hook, get an ice cold frozen beer mug, fill it up and get in to it.
My kids think I'm nutz but it really takes the stress of the day away.

Lanny, be careful because you are telling your age. I used to watch Paul Bosch and some I can't remember on a B&W TV. Of course I was young then and thought it was real.

These guys are very good acrobats, actors and very muscular compared to the one's Lanny and I watched. You will enjoy how the crowd get's in to the match. Wear your ear plugs because the audience will be very loud. But knowing how great you do on any report I'm positive you will do a great job on this as well!

Interesting on the SAG requirement. I've always thought wrestling (as seen on tv) was fake, but I had no idea they really were actors...

And Lanny, the ice cold beer mug sounds great, but I cant drink beer unless I'm in South Texas and the bottle neck is dipped in salt with a lime wedge. And its gotta be a Mexican beer. If you put it in a paper bag, I'm in Double Heaven!

I love Houston, but miss South Texas... ...Have a weakness for pasta and vinegar-soaked cucumbers made by my father-in-law's sister in Kansas or.... The Blue Onion in Weslaco (McAllen too!)...I absolutely love the outdoors, and can never resist a nap! And did I mention I found in Houston the most amazing "better half" I could have ever wished for? Besos!
