!HOUSTON FRUSTRATION!

Ok I have nevr started a blog before but after months of waking up every morning and and watching fox news every day I figured this would be the best way to get my voice heard. What the hell is up with Houstons unemployment?! I cant get a job for the life of me, I am a culinary school graduate with 8 years of kitchen and bar work under my belt and yet i cant get a job to save my life. I browse craigslist and greensheet all day and send emails and call people fax my resemue all over but i never get a response and this kills me cause my past and all my previuse jobs have been solid and I have left on good terms with everyone i have worked with. I have been working offshore for the past two years on huge ocean vessels as a chef at eight weeks at a time and i just cant bring myself to do that kind of work any more. Plus I am getting married soon and I hate being away from my wife. Now this isnt my only FRUSTRATION with Houston. Now about a month ago i was walking home from my bowling league. I dont exactly live in a nice part of clear lake so I live in a post Katrina refugee camp. But back to the topic I'm walking home at 10pm and I am passing two other men who are in the street rather than on the side walk. As i pass i say "it's hot freakin hot out here." and out of no where one of the men hit me in the left side of my jaw at that time the other hit me on the right side. So i fell to the ground being the 5'8" 140 pound white kid I am and they proceeded to kick the living hell out of my face and ribs. Me being the BLEEP that i am had cashed my tax stimulouse check that afternoon to pay rent and had not bought a money oder yet so I had $800 on me. needless to say they took me for everything. They split my upper lip completley in half three inches up my face busted out four teeth, broke two ribs and permantley disfurgured me. The police were able to catch on of them Lee Mccall Fromw New Orleans but the other still reamins at large. This incident screwed me to pay rent i had to go get a loan based on my tv which only got my $600, then i had to falsly get a payday loan. All of this has sent me into a downward spiral of dept and hopless ness. All because two guys decided to rob somone smaller than them. Some one out there please help me.

Okay, you want someone out there to help you...

Let's see, you're unemployed, but qualified for work that you really prefer not doing.

You're getting married but you don't want to be away from your new wife.

You got mugged by two dudes, but you were fortunate enough to still be alive.

You're small and white.


Okay, let me see if I can help you out.

MAN UP.

Life is full of things that you may not like, but accepting those things and dealing with them are what being an adult is all about.

The next time you go out walking around; may be you'll be more aware than you were the last time. You're bashed up, but alive. Tune into the news and see just how many people were not as fortunate. You simply furthered your education enough to possibly not put yourself into the same position again.

You're white and unemployed. If you believe in your heart that those two issues are connected, I'm not sure that there is any way to reach you. There is work available, you just don't want to leave your new wife. May be it might be a good idea to wait on the marriage until you can put food in your bride's stomach.

Had to pawn the TV?

Where your remarks are understandable, pretty uncompassionate, maybe?

John,
Not a good idea to say anything to strangers maybe?
As thunder says, maybe a good idea to "be aware" of your surroundings, & ready to run!
Not a good idea to walk around at night in a bad neighborhood with 800.00 in your pocket, you think?
Maybe a times of a changing society, which many of us will be in soon?
I hope things work out for you, but you got to "cowboy up" & make something happen.
There is work to be done, maybe NOT what you like--but still work?
I think it is funny, I got money--want to hire someone to do work at a reasonable fee--
NOBODY wants to do it--?
They ALL want a "position"--?
My theory on that is "I used to do ANYTHING to get by--UNTIL I got a position"--?
I once worked at a service station for NOTHING--just to get experience--?
The changing times---?
Maybe when you get hungry enough, you will do "what you don't want to do?
(Not "YOU"--but those with that opinion!)

john, tough crowd huh? the advice is sound but i'm sure you've already been thinking about these things yourself. i feel for you though... and understand that you wrote your blog to sound off. surely you know your situation could be worse. as for the job hunt, i know someone very well experiencing the exact same thing. it's a tough time to be looking for a job, even though people say it's not that way in houston. keep up hope and persevere. let us know how you do!

I know how you feel.We once lived in one of the best neighborhoods.Now it is a Katrina slum.And I know about being robbed.They got me between my car and my door,beating me with a ball bat.I only had six dollars on me so it cost me a er charge and a plastic surgen charge.He had to sew my ear back on and fix my face the best he could.Send those deadbeats back to N.O. They don't belong here

Will keep you in my prayers. Really think that some of the others meant well, but they said it in a guy way which is rough.

I'll say it in a motherly way, "Please be aware of your surroundings. Take care of yourself. Be thankful to God that your life wasn't lost. Keep looking for work. There are jobs available. Take one, until the right opportunity opens up for you."
