"...providing the guidance our children need, turning off the TV set and putting away the video games; attending those parent-teacher conferences, helping our children with their homework, setting a good example. That's what everybody's got to do."

What do you think of this?  Is it a good thing to add expectations in addition to throwing money at a problem, or is he talking down to people like Rev.Jackson said?

Mike,

Jesse is full of hot air. He probably was having a bad day when he criticized Obama.

Barack is suggesting a common sense approach to helping children provide a sound basis for their own future.

Too many parents fail to provide appropriate supervision and love to their children.

I for one don't believe the government should be involved in child raising since they can't control the idiots of Congress! Now we also have people with no children trying to tell a parent how the child should be raised! Then the courts get involved in telling a parent how a child should be raised and by whom!

I don't know about you (Mike) or Chassan, but I had my behind whipped if I got out of line. I'm no serial killer, rapist, pedefile type either! In fact, it's a good thing I'm never picked for a jury when those type are tried! I even had my butt paddled in school if I acted up. A couple of those eye opening paddelings woke me up and my grades came up as well. Plus if I got one at school, I got one at home as well.

Hussin is suggesting a common sense way of raising kids but how in the heck does he suggest we do this? With both parents working in most cases it's impossible. I know Mike makes so much money his wife can stay home so he won't ever have a problem! LOL! But with everything so expensive now it's almost impossible for the mother to stay home with the children! They depend on babysitters or day care for the correct guidance! And Jesse should be on Jupiter by now he's so full of hot air!

i think those are good, positive recomendations, and i don't mind hearing them from "leaders." i just have a problem when they try to legislate it.

He forgot:"And teach them Spanish". (Obama needs to teach by example).

I agree with Andrea. I think most families would benefit from more family time that doesn't include the TV, video games, or a computer. It would be impossible to legislate this or try to enforce it without losing our basic civil rights. I think Obama knows that a lot of Americans long for the "good old days" when we seemed to have more family and personal values, and his comments such as this are supposed to be subliminal messages to those people to vote for him. I don't think I've ever seen anyone try so hard to be like Kennedy.

He also said it is our responsibility to teach spanish to our children, instead of asking hispanic immigrants to learn english. Depending on the group he is addressing, he feeds them what they want to hear, his own pastor made that clear in a past interview on why Obama doesn't attend his church anymore.

That's because the truth hurts.

I would agree with this statement, even if Q-ball said it.

If a statement is true, is doesn't matter whose mouth it comes out of.

Hello, this is Mike Iscovitz, meteorologist for Fox 26 News. When I'm not at work, I'm spending time with my wife and beautiful twin girls. They are an incredible blessing. In addition to the twins we have to keep up with our somewhat obese but lovable Siamese mix Casper, and our scrappy, spunky Yorkie named Sammy. When I have free time (which I don't) I try to emulate two of my idols, Jimmy Page and Arnold Schwarzenegger by working out and trying to play my Gibson. Contact me at iscovitz@fox26.com
