This was a scary sight on saturday evening as radar showed a pretty well-defined hook echo.  We broke right into programming to alert everyone in Pearland and Friendswood about a possible tornado.  As it turns out there were dozens of funnel cloud reports, but fortunately it never touched down.  Here's what the storm looked like on radar.

Here's what the rotation looks like with velocity data.  The green area right next to the red area is a clear indication of the rotation.

I saw this and wanted to ask you about something you said in your report. How exactly does one become a trained weather observer?

I submitted a lot of the pictures here online.. Mike, according to the PD, the storm did touch down. There was minor damage to a church that we know about. It was very eerie outside, very calm and then very wild. It sure had us wondering if standing out with the camera was the best notion. What got me was that our next door neighbor was having a roof put on and the construction workers seemed oblivious. I tried my best in broken Spanish to tell them to get off el roofo, but they didn't seem to care.

Writing_With_Power the NWS at the beginning and end of the year they offer SKYWARN training to anyone. It is a great program...I have been doing it for 5years. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/hgx/severe/skywarn.htm

I have a new radar system on my comp...and i got great data on that storm...Isci what time did you capture those images. The hook on my end was not real pronounced. i probly need to remove some clutter. My dads friend took some great pics of that nader...I sent them to the NWS.

Oh wow...great pics princessme!!! i hadseen the one with the tables but not the others. This will add to my analysis of the storm.

The storm that is producing the hook in the above images started dropping funnels when it was first near Arcola. Currently I am working on a 3D analysis...i hope to have something up this week.

Hello, this is Mike Iscovitz, meteorologist for Fox 26 News. When I'm not at work, I'm spending time with my wife and beautiful twin girls. They are an incredible blessing. In addition to the twins we have to keep up with our somewhat obese but lovable Siamese mix Casper, and our scrappy, spunky Yorkie named Sammy. When I have free time (which I don't) I try to emulate two of my idols, Jimmy Page and Arnold Schwarzenegger by working out and trying to play my Gibson. Contact me at iscovitz@fox26.com
