I think there are other things that could have possibly made the 'breaking news' yellow banner located when you first open Fox26's home page.  Seeing the resignation of Fidel Castro is less than surprising.

It wouldn't even be surprising if he was dead--he is dead to most people...politically and physically.

Is it really? A man who held onto power for almost half a century now relinquishes it is not "breaking news" worthy?

Not really. A dying man isn't very powerful. He put his brother into his position--who is also getting up there in age. He was influential, not anymore.

I think it is newsworthy. Already I saw President Bush posturing himself to make sure the election process in Cuba is fair. We cannot even assure our own voting process is fair with all the Diebold scandals. And we are in any position to do something about it if it isn't? Please Mr. President, just don't do anything else to mess up this world and this country for another year. Go on vacation...a lot. You've done that more than any other president we've had.

If the people of Cuba want something other than what they have presently, they are going to have to fight for themselves to make it happen. After all if President Bush has his way, we'll be in Iran with troops before his term is up.

I'm interested to see how this unfolds in the next few years.

Throughout history, most presidents (the good and the not-so-good) use the last year of their last as kind of a 'cleaning up' process. After all of the havoc and the mess that has formulated during Bush II's administration, he is now trying to make sure everything is 'right' and make his name look good in the history books.

Cubans aren't dumb. They know Bush isn't going to do anything to make the elections fair. And WILL do anything to make the elections favor him.

PBmom,it is going to take many years for Cuba to get cleaned up. Something major is going to have to happen. The upper class citizens are sitting way to high to allow for the equality that the common Cuban demands.
