IS EXPECTED. Having vaulted to the the top of the Republican heap in Iowa, the genial ordained Baptist minister and former governor of Arkansas will now face an ordeal reserved for frontrunners. Scrutiny ? You better believe it and when it gets down to the lick-log there's plenty to look at in Huckabees past.

For instance I'd like to ask him why he reportedly ordered the hard drives of 83 state computers and four servers destroyed as he left office in Arkansas. Was there something to hide ? His critics suggest plenty.

I'd like to know more about Huckabee's role in the parole of a convicted rapist who upon release raped and killed again. He's denied involvement, but his critics say there's plenty of evidence he played a big role in the release.

According to a Little Rock newspaper Pastor Huckabee was sanctioned for ethics violations at least five times. The same paper says back in the early 90's Huck wrote himself a paycheck from campaign funds as his own political consultant and had sticky fingers when it came to thousands of dollars worth of furnishings at the governor's mansion.

There's more....enough for those who covered Huckabee's years of public service to warn voters not to judge a book by it's aw-shucks cover.

Huckabee may have strong answers for these and other concerns. The point is - as a serious player he must now answer, something he largely avoided in his months as an apparent also ran.

That's the process. Ask Rudy, whose been wrung through the wringer (and it ain't over).

Having everyone digging into your life is enough not to run for office.

Listening to questions some ask and the answers given I wonder...no, I know how I would answer.

Reporter: Hereami, you were in Joe's Bar-b-que last month on Thursday November 5th at 1:07 pm, do you recall how much you left for your tip?

Hereami: Uh, I don't know. Was I in Joe's last month?

Reporter 2: You signed a petition when you were 19 which stated you favored the ball field in a economically depressed area, are you socialist?

Hereami: Uh, Was that the petition on pink paper with purple stripes because if it was I signed it because the girl holding it was cute and I was 19.

How do these people remember all the details of their lives? I don't. Could be the reason I sit here all day.

Greg,

You said you'd like to ask Huckabee why he reportedly ordered the hard drives of 83 state computers and four servers destroyed as he left office in Arkansas.

I'll answer the question for Huckabee.

There's no "reportedly" involved in this issue. His then chief of staff did have that done, but the information on the hard drives was saved to backup tapes, with the data and gubernatorial papers stored at Huckabee's alma mater, Quachita Baptist University, when he left office.

The action by Huckabee's staff was not unique.

The Department of Information Services, the Arkansas state agency that provides computer services for state agencies, overwrites data on its own computers or physically crushes its hard drives, depending on the sensitivity of the data.

thanks chassan - the reports I've read say
Arkansas Dept. of Information Systems "backed up information from the servers, but not the computers, and gave the back-up tape to Huckabee's former chief of staff."
The same report says DIS did not keep a copy of the tapes.
Another report claims the incoming governor had to to spend $335,000 to replace the the computer hardware Huckabee ordered destroyed.
Do you know whether the tapes stored at QBU have been released by Huckabee For review ?

No, Greg, the tapes are not available.

Then there is the intelligence report for Iran he seemed to know nothing about for days and days. I believe I recall when I saw the tape of the reporter asking the question, his reply was, "Huh?"

And, PBMom, there are people like presidential candidate Ron Paul -- remember he's from Texas -- who displayed a blank face when asked on CNN tonight for comment on the debacle involving U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton and the two border patrol agents who were sent to the federal pen for covering up a shooting of an illegal immigrant.

Paul looked the interviewer in the eye and asked for a prompt on who Johnny Sutton is.

Come on Ron, you need to get familiar with the U.S. Attorneys in Texas.

Are you awake, Ron?

Hey Chassan - I know who Johnny Sutton is. Among other things he was my fraternity brother at UT back in the day...and a damn good outfielder on a national championship baseball team.
Small world huh ?

Chassan: I missed that one. That isn't good either. It's sad that we have to decide which candidate would do the "better" less-than- adequate job as president instead of choosing the candidate who would restore us to a nation we used to be--a leader in the world; just seems like everyone else is just passing us by in science, education, manufacturing, energy, you name it. Seems we can't even get "war" right anymore either.

Greg,

Yes, indeed, it is a small world. Johnny has taken a lot of heat over the the prison sentences for the two border patrol agents. I think he handled the case correctly, but critics argue that Sutton's office should never have prosecuted the two agents, who failed to report the shooting and lied for months about what happened.

The two agents have only themselves to blame.

PBMom,
At this point -- and this is subject to change -- I'm for Huckabee. Unfortunately, Huckabee's campaign fund is sorely lacking the money needed to wage an effective television ad campaign in all the primaries coming up in the next few weeks.

So Greg, what was Johnny like in college?

For as long as I can remember, all I've cared about is telling stories about Texans and what matters to them. These days that's pretty much all I do, so I guess I'm livin' the dream. Toss in 2 toddlers and a wife and my life is full to the brim. I'm greedy, I know there are great untold stories out there and I want them all. Help me do it.
