I've taken a little break from blogging...but it's time to get back in the game.

The struggle is heating up. Stretch run, you could call it, in the pitched battle that is the primaries.

Just watched tape of Oprah stumping for Obama.

If ever there was a "civilian" endorsement to be envied by those unfortunate enough to be passed over - Oprah's public blessing is certainly it.

But will it make a difference ? Do people really value an entertainer's personal opinion so highly they are willing to offer their own vote as a sort of homage ?

Perhaps.

Some may think it's as good a reason as any. Much of what Ms. Winfrey has touched has turned to gold.

But Can Oprah "magic" erode a 20% gap in the polls ?

It will be fascinating to see in coming weeks if her there are indeed limits to the power of her persuasion.

Welcome back, Greg. Missed your blogs!

I think a lot of people wish Oprah herself would run for president. It will be interesting to see if he gets an Oprah bump.

I've seen candidates on The Colbert Report get the "Colbert bump," Ron Paul being among those who welcomed it with open arms.

Greg,

Oprah will have no pull with most voters.

Her greatest benefit to Obama is getting voters to show up for rallies. She's the magnet; he's the meal. Will those who show up for the rallies like the meal? Who knows?

We have a lot of primaries to go, with more than 20 of 'em starting in early February.

I hope not. I just find it sad how an entertainer can have the affect she has on people.

She appeals to women and I've spoken to female friends across the country who are divided on this. Unfortunately...da, da, da...some of them support the current Southern Democratic "frontrunner." I will keep my current opinion to myself on THIS issue, however.

Oprah also supported Al Gore. That did not make him president. Oprah can support who she wants, but I do not support Obama. Sounds too much like Osama. Obama, Osama, no, no. He is not presidential material. He is boring! I do not support illegal immigration, Obama does.

I think it's sad when we as AMERICANS can be swayed one way or the other by a celebrity "backing" a candidate. We need to think for ourselves-WHO CARES about Oprah's political views??? Not me!!

We are running a national poll this weekend with the question - Which candidate is Oprah endorsing ? The number of people who get it right I suspect will beat the number of people who answer correctly on a whole range of basic U.S. history questions.
It all lends support to Chassans view - that super star celebrities can lead lots of folks to the water, but they can't necessarily make them drink.

For as long as I can remember, all I've cared about is telling stories about Texans and what matters to them. These days that's pretty much all I do, so I guess I'm livin' the dream. Toss in 2 toddlers and a wife and my life is full to the brim. I'm greedy, I know there are great untold stories out there and I want them all. Help me do it.
