As I decide what to cover in this presidential scramble, the all--consuming quest to pile up the biggest pile of cash consistently makes me yawn and heightens my general cynicism about this imperfect process.

Sure, it's the juice that keeps the combatants in the field, and  the spinmeisters yakking, but what bugs me is how MUCH attention the quarterly fundraising figures have been given and generally how little attention was paid to candidates reaction tof ISRAEL BOMBING SYRIA.

The attack came hours after a suicide bomber in the Israeli city of Haifa claimed 18 lives. The Isreali's struck back at what they claim was a terrorist training camp, deep inside Syria.

What I found fascinating in the aftermath was Senator Hillary Clinton's strong and vocal support of the Israeli COUNTER-STRIKE and the suggestion that the Syrians were working on their own nuclear facility which leaders in Tel Aviv had every right to knock out.

In a political world, where every statement by those seeking power is dissected and chewed over for a telegraphed message - some are suggesting the Democratic frontrunner  has just issued  the green light  for Isreali  pre-emptive airstrikes against nuclear weapons facilities in Iran. That is, if she becomes America's president.

Any thoughts ?

The issue of who raises the most money is an indication that the candidates are more concerned with money instead of the real issues. Clinton has let us know that she is a war hawk more concerned with other countries issues and not what matters for this country. If Israel was attacked they have every right to counter-attack same with any country that is attacked including ours but not against a country that has not struck first. Just because some country may have nuclear weapons is not a reason to strike first. If that were the case then everyone out there would be attacking us because we have nuclear weapons, (which by the way were illegally flown across our country and 8 service people involved in some way with the flight from the 2 bases involved have died under suspicious circumstances). Clinton does not have the right to give anyone permission to attack another. Bush went to the UN first and got permission to attack Iraq and not to our Congress as he is mandated too. Our government is becoming more of a dictatorship with each president passing on the concept that they have the power to do anything they want. The only candidate that truely understands what our Constitution allows and does not allow is Ron Paul, everyone else is just a poser.

It's not the person who has the most cash that gets nomination, it's who gets the most votes. I could careless how much they raise. I do know it cost too dog gone much.

Greg,

If Hillary is elected president, she'll have to exercise more caution in making statements about any future military action Israel takes against Syria.

I have no problem with Israel's strike, but a president's words can carry great weight.

I'd like to break down just where each candidate's money has come from. Then look at the stance on their issues. When candidates are bought and paid for, they serve their master, not their people.

The only thing I care about concerning their funds is that it's done legally. It's sad (but true) when someone gets elected because they had millions to spend plastering their name and face on the TV, while the better candidate focused on issues rather than dollars.

Hillary needs to spend some of her funds on a muzzle. Keeping her mouth shut and choosing her words carefully hasn't been her nature since her college protesting days. Knowing what not to say is just as, if not more, important for a President as knowing what to say.

Oh yeah it's who gets the most votes huh, remember Florida and the recount??? Our votes don't count, the Electorial College is the one who chooses the President and it is run by crooks, liars, secret societies and power hungry fools that don't give a rats a_ _ what happens to us peons.

You're so right, Ltlowl. I have blogged in the past about doing away with the Electoral College all together. If every vote did count, Al Gore would have been President and 3,800+ people may still be alive. I was simply trying to make the point that the most cash doesn't matter. I should have said, it's how effectively that you spend the amount of cash you have.

Who you callin a peon, spunky?

I am not a peon, nor am I so foolish as to think the presidential race has anything to do with anything.

Jay Leno will decide this time and Letterman the next time. They base it solely on which Prez will get the most laffs.

It is obviously a C_O_Nspiracy!!

LOL,

Your answer made me laugh :):):) I haven't been called spunky in ages:):):) I was being sarcastic by using the term peon. If I thought I could get away with spelling it and using it the way I wanted to without being accused of being crude, my point would have been made clearer.

For as long as I can remember, all I've cared about is telling stories about Texans and what matters to them. These days that's pretty much all I do, so I guess I'm livin' the dream. Toss in 2 toddlers and a wife and my life is full to the brim. I'm greedy, I know there are great untold stories out there and I want them all. Help me do it.
