“I don't believe my role is to replace the verdict of a jury with my own," - George W. Bush on why he signed death warrants for 152 inmates as governor of Texas, quoted in his book “A Charge to Keep.”

While the dust is settling on the president's decision to commute Scooter Libby's prision sentence this 8-year-old quote from George W.  regenerated the bad taste in my mouth.

Funny thing about the record - it just doesn't go away.

 What do you think ?

I think the sickening feeling I get from most anything Bush says or does just got worse. I wonder how many people still disagree with the infamous Dixie Chicks' quote. I really think the majority of Americans are tired of this administation, and Bush keeps giving us reasons to be tired of him - just don't write a comic book about it!

I wrote on another blog that I see this playing out. Bush, Cheney, Rove and Libby all sit around and one Bush, Cheney or Rove says to Libby. Now you know we can't allow the vice-president to go down for outing a spy, so we need someone to be the fall guy, take one for the team, and that person needs to be you. Then Bush interjects, "Then if you are found guilty, I'll pardon you, so everybody wins." If it weren't counterproductive to getting things done in Congress, I'd be the first person to sign on for impeaching both Cheney and Bush. Cheney may be the shadow government, but Bush is responsible for all those who is under his administration. His administration makes us wish for the Clinton/Lewinsky days. I had a blog where I had a link to two documentaries about Cheney (one PBS and one a Canadian network). I feel sorry for the person who is elected to clean up the mess of this administration, whether that is Democrat or Republican or other. I don't think a 4-year term is going to be enough to do damage control. I was consider a "traitor" and "unpatriotic" because I was in such a minority about the Iraq war. His body language screamed "I'm lying." I felt like the Dixie Chicks. I will be interested to see just how low his approval ratings get before he leaves office. This pardon was very different than what Clinton and other presidents did when they leave office. Clinton never pardoned anybody who was involved in a scandal at the White House. I'm thinking maybe we should take away this presidential privilege for good. You know rules are made when someone comes

continuation

You know rules are made when someone comes along and abuses the trust people give them. Bush did that. And now I'm not sure I trust that any future president with this power ever again.

Greg: Completely off topic here, but I loved the story you did on the young woman with cerebral palsy who went diving. You know that Christopher Reeve was able to walk a few steps when he was in the pool. It was a special on 20/20 and you couldn't help but cry tears of joy for him. Great job on another great story. It's not just a feel-good story but a feel-wonderful story. Anybody who missed it needs to check it out online.

Since about 2003, this administration has left a bad taste in my mouth. The hypocracies are so many. I've been against the death penalty for as long as I can remember. It just seems like it is a quick fix. If you really want people to suffer, you will sentence them to life behind bars, without the possibility of parole, in solitary confinement and subject them to hard labor. Death doesn't deter crime! Some of these people don't care if they live or die. If these people were subjected to a life of hard labor, instead of a lethal injection to end it all, maybe they'll think twice about commiting a horrific crime.

They also need to get rid of the Presidential Pardon, Clinton abused it, the first President Bush abused it, and now this President has really abused it.

No one outed a spy.
PBS? Public Barbara Streisand Network?
Canadian Network? So that is what that C stands for. I thought it was Communist.
How unfortunate that we do not have to wait in long lines for a free flu shot.

Most Americans, Wonderful World, are not taken in by whatever the liberal press chooses to feed us each news day.

yub
ps. nuttin perznal PB. Some of those comments really gig me in my "right side" and the only way I know to get rid of the thorn is to pull it and return it.

I'm glad I can provide a laugh, a smile, a pain in your side, a splinter you just can't get out, etc. I'll let you get the mercury-filled free flu shot, thank you very much. I won't ever be standing in line for that one.

What do you call what was done then if it wasn't revealing the identity of Valerie Plame because the report her husband filed wasn't the only evidence that wasn't being manufactured, the only evidence that said, your assumptions about Iraq are wrong. They didn't like Joe Wilson's report, they revealed the identity of his 20-year veteran spy wife in retaliation.

What's your take on it because I don't see another view on this?

"As it turned out, several administration officials revealed Plame's identity. White House political adviser Karl Rove and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage were the primary sources for a 2003 newspaper column outing Plame. Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer also admitted telling reporters about her. Libby was the only one charged in the matter and not for leaking."

Then they should have been charged, but Scooter was the fall guy. Isn't revealing a spy's identity still a treasonous offense?

For as long as I can remember, all I've cared about is telling stories about Texans and what matters to them. These days that's pretty much all I do, so I guess I'm livin' the dream. Toss in 2 toddlers and a wife and my life is full to the brim. I'm greedy, I know there are great untold stories out there and I want them all. Help me do it.
