'Allah meat' astounds Nigerians The gristle spells 'Muhammad' in Arabic The gristle spells out the word "Allah" in Arabic

Diners have been flocking to a restaurant in northern Nigeria to see pieces of meat which the owner says are inscribed with the name of Allah.

What looks like the Arabic word for God and the name of the prophet Muhammad were discovered in pieces of beef by a diner in Birnin Kebbi.

He was about to eat it, when he suddenly noticed the words in the gristle, the restaurant owner said.

A search of the kitchen's meat revealed three more pieces which bore the names.

The meat was boiled and then fried before being served, owner Kabiru Haliru told newspaper Weekly Trust.

"When the writings were discovered there were some Islamic scholars who come and eat here and they all commented that it was a sign to show that Islam is the only true religion for mankind," he said.

The restaurant has kept the pieces of meat for visitors to see.

Thousands of people have already gone to the restaurant to see them since they were discovered last week.

A vet told the newspaper the words "defied scientific explanation".

"Supposing only one piece of meat was found then it would be suspicious, but given the circumstances there is no explanation," Dr Yakubu Dominic said.

I don't know...I've seen many things in my lifetime.  Tortillas with images of Christ, trees with images of the Virgin Mary and now this.  Does anyone acutually believe in things like this?

Foe, I don't believe any of that kind of junk! If you look hard enough you can find anything in anything! I guess people want to believe in something and this gives them the reason! After the meat was boiled and fried the grisle will do weird things so I can't see what they think they see! Just as stains on walls and shadows on windows do strange things!

The nutcase who told the world this tells everybody that Islam is the only true religion is as screwy as the people who believe in this junk. Oh well, it takes all kinds!

Red - That's pretty much what I believe. But I do understand that with the world being such a hard place to deal with these days...people need to find hope and a means of strengthening their resolve.

Traffic_Diva - You know...I see that too now that I take a look at it.

But honestly...I'm trying to figure out what he is holding period. It just doens't look like meat or bone at all to me. More like a piece of metal or something. Almost like a talisman.

A close look at the picture shows obvious "tubules", or the indication of passages through meat of worms. You can see the same evidence in large fish caught in Galveston Bay or the Gulf, which frequently contain worms.

Worms in pork, due to unsanitary conditions in which the pig is raised or in the food it is fed, causes trichinosis, which has been largely eradicated in modern swine processing farms and plants. This is why pork was "forbidden" in some countries of the world in the past - under-cooked pork, which did not completely kill the worms in the meat, resulted in trichinosis in humans that ate it, thus resulting in deasease and death. Scolars at that time discovered the reason for these illnesses and deaths and attempted to stop the cause.

Secular laws were thus passed in an attempt to to stop human ingestion. Such laws were ignored and ineffective. Unlearned populaces of such places would not believe the truth (as modern populaces likewise ignore many secular laws now as misunderstood, stupid, or useless.)

However, these same peoples would follow the "law" if it became a "religious edict". Thus priests were directed to teach their followers that the meat was "unclean", and forbidden. Problem solved. (This edict is no longer necessary to protect people if simple pre-cautionary procedures are followed in the raising and preparation of swine as a food product.)

I believe I would strike this place off my list of places to eat.
