We are less than a week away from the launch of FOX26 News' 5 & 5:30 pm newscasts.

Ironically, when the newscasts premiere next Monday, they'll go on line as KRIV marks 25 years of doing news in Houston. We've got several upcoming news specials on our expansion coming up. The first is this coming Sunday August 17th 9:30-10:00 pm.

And there's lots of fun stuff going on too. Check out the photos here of our 5/5:30 anchor team handing out ice cream here at the station on Monday.

The good news is if you didn't get any, Mike, Melinda, Dr. Jim and Ruben will be out and about in an ice cream truck the rest of the week.

We've got stops planned everywhere from The Woodlands to Downtown, to Sugar Land and more.

My Tech guy will keep you posted on their schedule and locations on the blogs here at myfoxhouston.com

And keep watching for updates. You may get a sneak peek at the newscast later this week. Be sure to keep an eye on the 5 p.m. special page here for more behind the scenes...

To our FOX26 viewers/neighbors:

We are looking forward to celebrate two very important events in the history of KRIV/FOX26 News.

On Monday, August 18th, we'll be launching newscasts at 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

That same week, we'll be celebrating the station's 25th year of providing local news to our community.

We have a very diverse staff of talented people here. They are working hard to prepare for our new newscasts.

We want you to countdown to August 18th with us. So, over the next few weeks, you can share our blogs and photo galleries of behind the scenes preparation. There will also be a video or two that we think you'll enjoy.

Please come out and meet the anchors assigned to the new shows---Melinda Spaulding, Mike Barajas and Dr. Jim Siebert----as they attend our Back to School Back to Safety event at First Colony Mall. That's scheduled for August 16th from 10AM-6PM.

In addition to this blog, you'll be hearing more from "The big dog's Blog"....insight from the station's big boss.

So keep clicking and don't forget to tune in on August 18th. We think you'll find it a good use of YOUR time.

Happy Holidays from your FOXFAMILYSCRAPBOOKER. Here at the station, we've got door and cubicle contests going on and people are really getting creative. Our winner was announced today and we'll post some pictures.

In the meantime, I wanted to go ahead and share some great photos from Santa's visit last week! Santa's photographer took some great shots of him with our staffers.

We thought you'd enjoy them !!!

Many of you have called us, blogged us, and emailed us wondering where to find Melinda these days.  Well, she's all over the place for us... anchoring the noon and occasionally the 9pm news..... some of you are bumping into her on the streets as well.

Throughout November, you'll see Melinda doing FOX IN FOCUS reports on lots great stories---some of which have come from YOU.

If you've got a story from your community share it with her........right now she's getting lots of interaction from parents who are experiencing speeders in their neighborhoods.  How about yours?  Got a problem speed zone in our neighbhorhood ? Answer here and I'll pass it on to her!

Lots of ooo-ing and ah-ing this week in the newsroom !  Design director Katharine Landmeier brought new baby boy Mateo to the newsroom to visit.

Katharine is one of those great behind the scenes employees you don't see----but she's all about what we look like on the air.

Katharine looked great-----appears to be skinnier than ever !!!!  She and her hubby Omar have an adorable little baby.

Got a new baby in the house ???? Share your pictures here !!!!

Hello everyone. Our scrapbook update has some beautiful pictures of Melissa Wilson, newborn Caleb and his big brother Zach. Melissa wanted us to share that she is enjoying this time she's having with her family and sends her good wishes to viewers and colleagues. It's hard to scoop Isiah Carey's Insite, but sources tell the FOXFAMILYSCRAPBOOKER that Melissa will be back on the air on August 21st ! You can continue to leave your well wishes and comments for Melissa on this blog. She is reading them regularly!

Congratulations to FOX26 editor David Canada and his beautiful bride Maria !!! Surrounded by family, frienids and colleagues----they recently tied the knot at a sunrise service on the beach in Galveston. David is a pro here. Our editors and photographers have had huge technical challenges this year as we've upgraded our camera and editing format. David, who works the early, early, early shift---is one of a group of fantasitc editors. Join me in congratulating David and Maria !

The arrival of Melissa's new baby delayed your meeting Kevin Collins.  Kevin has to be one of the most positive people in the building, city and state.

You can tell he was "raised right" and treats every single person with dignity and respect.

His famous catch phrase in the newsroom is "Let's make it Happen" and he does.

Got anybody like that at work ?  Shoot us some info about them on this blog.  Next Friday 5/8 we'll pick someone and surprise them with a cool FOXRAD umbrella and hat.....maybe with a camera.  No phone numbers or addresses....just tell us why they're great and if your nominee wins, we'll email you !

I told you guys the behind the scenes people here at FOX26 are mult talented !  Check out Ruben Dominguez.  A year ago he was our assignment editor.  Now he's that plus an on air star doing: American Idol reports ( he even got to go to L.A. ! ), traffic reports, helicopter reports, music reports for our web site----and whatever else our bosses think of.

Would you like Ruben and his guitar to perform at your school, wedding, bat mitvah ?  No guarantees, but write in !  We'll see what we can do.  Tell the scrapbooker in 26 words or less why he should attend YOUR event.

Thanks for all of the feedback about assignment editor Aaron Johnson. Based on the feedback, he was the perfect person to kick off our FOX FAMILY SCRAPBOOK.....Your chance to peek inside our newsroom and meet the behind the scenes folks.

Today, we feature Stuart Green. He's being shy in this picture but he's not in the newsroom! Stuart has been here for more than 15 years. He's an awesome TD (technical director) and proud husband and father.

Stuart and the other TDs sit next to the director in the control room during the newscasts. The TD gets the right shots and graphics on the air for us.

We've got lots of people behind the scenes here:

Photographers

Engineers

Live truck operators

Editors

Web staffers

What work groups would you like to know more about?????
