The Chinese martial arts community petitioned to have Kung Fu/Wusu included in the Beijing Olympics. The International Olympic Committee declined because they figured that Martial arts are adequately represented by Tae Kwon Do and Judo. Judo is a DERIVATIVE of the Japanese art Aiku jujitsu. The IOC also argued that the Kung Fu is practiced individually and judging is subjective. Hmmm. You're right IOC it's not like GYMNASTICS is practiced individually or the judging is subjective...OH WAIT...IT IS! But hey there are more people practicing gynmastics worldwide than kung fu...NO WAIT. I'm wrong again. There are close to 400 forms of Kung Fu still in practice and we're not sure how many forms have died over the thousands of years in which they've been practiced but hey Kung Fu is a passing fad. It's not as if there are books and magazines published every year or films made about it. The Chinese martial arts community is MUCH smaller than millions of gymnast who cover the world. I've no issues with the two martial arts which ARE represented in the Olympics, but the IOC insults my intelligence (and that of ALL who appreciate the Chinese martial arts collectively called Kung Fu) when they tell me that an art form which has kept people in great shape, and protected them for thousands of years shouldn't be an Olympic event when BEACH VOLLEYBALL should. BMX AND MOUNTAIN BIKING are olympic events...but Kung Fu isn't? Everyone can recognize the name of at least Kung Fu practioner...how many people can name a SINGLE BMX or MOUNTAIN BIKER? WATER POLO, BADMINTON and TABLE TENNIS aka PING PONG are considered by the IOC enough of an audience draw to be olympic events...but KUNG FU ISN'T? What the hell does the Chinese Martial Arts Community have to do to be included in the 2012 London Olympics change our name to "Self defense Gymnastics Floor exercises?"

I'm not the first person to make this argument and I'm quite sure I won't be the last. I'm SICK and tired of the NBA and some of the elements surrounding it. I'm not refering to the preferential treatments refs seem to give "marquis" players or bladant fouls that would equate an assault charge on the streets of most American cities, I'm refering to something that happens off the court.
I'm sick of going on to the news wires and reading about how some pampered thug has either assaulted a fan, another player, a coach or some innocent bystander in a strip club.
I'm sick of the fact that if you're name is BoQueesha and you look as if you could be a "rumpshaker" in a rap video there exist a near cottage industry of figuring out creative ways of becoming impregnated with the spawn of pro athletes as a means of financial security.
Never mind getting an education. Getting knocked up by a professional basketball player is a hoodtat's answer to winning the lottery. You'll get a percentage of his HUGE income "for the baby", but the child of a superstar althete would WANT his mother to live in an expensive house in an exclusive neighborhood and drive an S class Mercedes or Excursion. Of couse BoQueesha needs a designer wardrobe and lots of jewelry because the baby wouldn't want his mother to NOT stand out of a crowd.
Am I making the primadonna athletes sound like victims? If so then I appologize. If you KNOW about child support laws in the United States and that aggressive hoodrats are willing to kill for your "seed" and you either aren't selective in the company you keep OR aren't smart enough to take precautions then you're an overpaid imbecile and DESERVE to be bled dry by each "baby's mama" who crawls out of the wood work with a kid whom she might as well name "meal ticket."
Several years ago I applied for a job as a youth probation officer with Harris county. I saw something in the job announcement which I found puzzling. The announcement said that anyone who had played college football or any college team sport was "preferred".
I asked someone why they preferred college athletes to anyone else and was told "Oh because having played college sports is an indication that the person knows how to work as part of an organization, can put the needs of the group before his own and that he can work with a diverse group of people." My response?
"Really? And serving in the U.S. Armed forces DOESN'T?" Durring some Sunday Morning political show I saw some guy essentially say that anyone who's played college footbal can "write his own ticket." in today's job market. Once on a sports call in show with KTSU a former college football player tried to argue with me that his playing college football was MORE of a contribution to society than my serving in the Marines and loading bombs and missles onto airplanes because he could have sustained a spinal cord injury while playing...and because people were willing to PAY to watch him play. Wow. It's disturbing to know that no one is teaching college football players that "bombs go BOOM."
Have we REALLy regressed to the point where playing college football gets a young man MORE respect than having served his country? If so then I can HONSESTLY say I feel sorry for us as a country. Athleticism is great and to be admried but if we're sending the message to returning vets that serving ones country pales in comparison to serving college ball then we are TRULY in a sad state.
Despite the fact that I was pulling for the Patriots I'm happy that one of the all time Greats Mr. Michael Strayhan FINALLY has a superbowl ring. He's a class act and deserves it. Personally I'm a little insulted that he didn't get player of the game. The play of the Giants defense made a mediocre performance by Payton Manning's less talented kid brother passable enough to get a title.
Strayhan and that defense played like world champions and deserve the respect that comes with their phenominal play. My hat is off to the G-men defense. Even though they stopped Brady and the Pats (whom I hate) from FINALLY shutting the 72 Dolphins the #uck up, I have nothing but love and respect for them. Congrats G-men and well done Mr Strayhan and company. Out of curiosity. Am I the ONLY one who finds it funny that Tiki Barber retired and the following year they win a superbowl? That's just funny.
For those who DIDN'T know cuddley, cutasian anchor/reporter Pattie Sheih has a bet with weatherman Mike Iscovitz concerning the Houston Texans' season. Iscovitz (Who was part of Funk band Cameo with me in the late 80') bet The lovely Ms. S. that the Texans would go 8 and 8. Last night the Texans beat the Broncos like they'd stolen something from them (with the help of OVERALL #1 DRAFT PICK SUPER-MARIO WILLIAMS) and improved their record to 7 and 6. One more win and you're buying lunch Pattie. ;-)

I just learned that former Astros Andy Pettite and Roger Clemets were named in a report of professional athletes who might have used streroids or human growth hormones. Is it true? I don't know. Should they be disciplined if it is in fact true? Certainly. Should Congress hold hearings on Professional Football and Baseball Players who use steroids and HGH?
Dear God no. Some professional athletes do illegal substances and the governing bodies of those particular sports should discipline their own people. Should I as a tax payer have my representatives waste MY money because Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds might have used HGH?
